Urgh this is one of my pet peeves, fucking hate it.

ArriettyJones · 08/04/2020 07:08

Yes it’s fine, it’s just runnier.

As long as you lather your whole hands back and front and sing whichever song we’re supposed to sing while we wash this week Grin

BalanchineBallet · 08/04/2020 07:09

Better than watering down the wine.

Ginfordinner · 08/04/2020 07:10

Buy some bars of soap.

TheSandgroper · 08/04/2020 07:11

I do it regularly as I am a skinflint but when others in the family get in on the act and muck up my system, I get irritated.

Schmoana · 08/04/2020 07:12

It’s safe snd it’s still effective as soap. Refill with bubble bath - soap is soap

DisplayPurposesOnly · 08/04/2020 07:12

Why wouldnt it be safe? You add water to handwash when you use it, so it's hardly 'unsafe' to add water before use.

Thehollyandtheirony · 08/04/2020 07:12

If it’s good quality soap to start with then it’s fine. It can even make it a better consistency. If it’s crappy stuff, no.

Schmoana · 08/04/2020 07:18

Crappy soap will work just as well as “quality” soap at killing the ‘rona!

userxx · 08/04/2020 07:19

@BalanchineBallet Yes it is!

YangShanPo · 08/04/2020 07:21

I bet he reuses his teabags.

londonrach · 08/04/2020 07:21

Always put abit of water in at end to use last bit up. Still soap. Bars of soap better but in kitchen its hand soap

MikeUniformMike · 08/04/2020 07:29

I water it down otherwise I get sore hands. Bar soap is much kinder.

StrongMama1989 · 08/04/2020 07:30

@BalanchineBallet haha!! That’s the 1st thing I thought too!

OP, is he doing it because he’s anxious about not being able to get anymore in the shops? Last time I went there was only a couple left , everything else in stock now - pasta, toilet roll etc but hand wash still low, dunno what it’s like where you are. Or is it because he’s super tight? Lol

LazyFace · 08/04/2020 07:30

I always water down mine. Otherwise it just dispenses far too much soap.

X1402 · 08/04/2020 07:31

I had to do this as I couldn’t get hold of anymore at the shops, people who say refill with bubble bath or body wash ...these aren’t the same as soap are they as there not antibacterial ?

EdithWeston · 08/04/2020 07:32

Yes, it's safe and it strikes me as eminently sensible

We need to reduce the use of single-use plastics. Making each bottle of soap solution last longer is a good thing.

Di11y · 08/04/2020 07:32

X1402 corona is a virus not bacterial. the soap breaks down the cells so pretty much any will do fine.

Bl3ss3dm0m · 08/04/2020 07:32

At the moment I would prefer the full strength, but if you can't buy more either because of no product on the shelf, or because you can't afford it, then it is better to eke it out, than just using plain water.
For those recommending bars of soap, they do do just as good a job as liquid soap, but once first used they hold on to most germs (presumably including Covid 19), especially whilst still wet. Which is why I gave up using bar soap years ago.

EricaNernie · 08/04/2020 07:34

we did have another bottle sitting there, but perhaps he was blind to that bottle!

cactus2020 · 08/04/2020 07:34

I always water mine down as it makes a nice foam. Works just as well and less wasteful. Husband is spot on.

EricaNernie · 08/04/2020 07:35

i have a back of bar soap, and feel once you put it under the water, surely it is clean?

OP posts:
daisypond · 08/04/2020 07:35

It’s fine. But bar soap is better to use.

SoupDragon · 08/04/2020 07:38

these aren’t the same as soap are they as there not antibacterial

Neither are most liquid soaps.

ArriettyJones · 08/04/2020 07:39

Soap is soap. It is very effective at cleaning no matter whether shower gel, washing up liquid, bar soap or whatever.

It’s the detergent action that matters.

Bacteria isn’t the main concern at the moment anyway.
