@ChickenCluckWaddle
Thank you, the information is useful.
Back in the day we used to use big bottles of savlon to dilute for wound cleaning etc. Then it was discovered that once opened, bacteria could grow in the liquid, even though it was a disinfectant.
We moved to small bottles, then eventually sachets.
We also learned that any left over solution could not be saved or re- used.
Generally people don't inow these things. Look at the panic buying of antibac stuff that is ineffective against viruses.
I have noticed that people with scientific/ medical/ nursing backgrounds often get shouted down on MN. I don't know why.

Surely if it's watered down you'll use more.
Bit of a false economy.

Water may stop soap working’

Not what she actually said.
Diluting and using immediately, fine.

Diluting and leaving - you'll have altered the pH, diluted any preservatives (which if present are there for a reason). So it's entirely possible various microbes and moulds may grow. The surfactant might still work against grease and so disrupt a virus lipid layer but it may become rather yucky.

I don't water it down to get it to go further. I put water in and shake it around to get the dregs out. I do the same for shampoo. Usually one extra wash for shampoo and a few extra for the soap. Hate waste.

Uh huh .. ok

hoxtonbabe · 08/04/2020 15:08

I don’t usually do this but I have been of late only because I’m struggling to get any hand wash and only have one left in the store cupboard so trying to eek out the bits at the bottom.

Can someone be very kind and post links to their nice (naice?) draining wooden or plastic soap dishes please? Trying to avoid glass or china ones because the DC will smash them.

endofthelinefinally · 08/04/2020 16:29

I can't link on phone, but if you google coconut shell soap dish there are lots of eco friendly ones.
I am shocked at the price though. Mine were a fraction of the cost last year.
