It stays gloopy round the outside ,it’s slippery and a lot of the ones I’ve used especially in hotels take an age to wash off as they seem to leave a coating .
Soap trays always look grim too unless you’re washing those every couple of days ..
@SoupDragon, that’s my point .. I don’t need to understand why someone likes /doesn’t like the same thing I do 🤷🏼‍♀️
And I also don’t do it to be frugal , I have lovely foaming hand wash I get when I go to the US and add a little water at the end because they’re really nice and I want to make them last as looking like won’t be getting any more this year !

Tonyaster · 08/04/2020 09:32

Does dettol kill it?

Fluffybutter · 08/04/2020 09:33

Can’t believe people are arguing about handsoap. It’s bizarre Grin

DefConOne · 08/04/2020 09:34

I’d rather use soap on my hands than dettol. And has been said repeatedly on this thread normal soap kills the virus.

PineappleDanish · 08/04/2020 09:34

I'm not a sales rep for the company but Splosh refills are amazing. You buy a bottle once, and they send pouches of super concentrated handwash to fill it with, adding water to the right strength. The mint and green tea one is lovely.

There's really no need to keep buying endless plastic bottles with pumps and chucking them away, even if you're not prepared to switch to bar soap instead.

PineappleDanish · 08/04/2020 09:35

@MrsClatterbuck it would be better to use the things that destroy the virus.

Soap destroys the virus! And who wants to wash their hands in bleach??

EvilPea · 08/04/2020 09:38

I’m another with a foam pump so have to water it down.
I have left the handwash for the kids and adults have swapped to bar soap though as it lasts longer.

I dislike the sink film though

EricaNernie · 08/04/2020 09:38

i asked dh, he said that I dont have to use it! i can use the new bottle, but the old bottle had quite a bit of soap that the straw didnt reach - so it was a waste.
i must agree the straw is too short, it is a ridiculous waste.

diddl · 08/04/2020 09:42

Are refills not much of a thing in the UL then?

EricaNernie · 08/04/2020 09:44

i think this was a refill, but the straw is still too short.

Of course its safe! Goodness. And what on earth good will antibacterial do? Did nobody ever wash their hands before this virus? There is no change in this house. Any old soap and water is fine, its the good hand wash method that really counts

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 08/04/2020 09:46

Bleach and dettol on your skin... eek

SharonasCorona · 08/04/2020 09:46

We use soap now which lasts a lot longer. Also, with the last handwash we had (Tesco own brand) the bloody pump would give you far too much so ended up wasting loads.

Dettol on the skin is normal. Does no one have or used to have dettol baths?

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 08/04/2020 09:49

GnomeDePlume

My microbiology lecturer at uni said the same thing. That antibacterial agents are contributing to bacterial resistance in a similar way that antibiotics are

SharonasCorona · 08/04/2020 09:51

@AmelieTaylor

It would be better to use the things that destroy the virus. Bleach or Dettol mixed as per the instructions.

Washing your hands doesn't destroy the virus, it washes it away safely down your sink.

Soap destroys the fatty layer around the virus allowing it to be washed away.

Anti-bacterial handwash is no better than plain old soap at doing this. In fact, it's never been proven that 'anti-bacterial' handsoap works any better.

SharonasCorona · 08/04/2020 09:52

Dettol on the skin is normal.

No it's not Confused

LoveBeingAMum555 · 08/04/2020 09:52

Well we are working our way through the stash of Lynx shower gels that our boys got for Christmas as we couldn't get hand soap in the supermarket delivery. As far as I am concerned so long as you wash hands thoroughly it doesn't matter what you use.

PineappleDanish · 08/04/2020 09:52

Dettol baths are something i only ever had as a child when I'd fallen and skinned both knees or something. Not as routine.

I dint think I've ever bought w bottle of dettol in my adult life and I'm 47.

Tonyaster · 08/04/2020 09:53

You can definitely use diluted dettol on your skin. I thought the person who said bleach and dettol was talking about door handles.

Tonyaster · 08/04/2020 09:54

I have about 5 bottles of dettol sitting under my sink. I use it for cleaning (its the lavander one and smells nicer than zoflora).

ArriettyJones · 08/04/2020 10:00

I must admit I’m partial to an occasional dettol bath, mostly for nostalgia reasons and I like the smell. But then I have a little sniff of the TCP whenever I have to open the first aid box, so it’s possible I’m just strange Grin

MikeUniformMike · 08/04/2020 10:03

Thanks @JinglingHellsBells.

I've seen people use hand sanitizer after using the loo and thought ugh.

Wash hands first then sanitize, unless you can't wash them.

rainbow1982 · 08/04/2020 10:04

Tee he, lockdown is driving us all bonkers 🤣🤣

JinglingHellsBells · 08/04/2020 10:06

why on earth would anyone bathe in Dettol?

It's for using on cuts and grazes, or for cleaning a surface.

It is most definitely not for immersing your whole body in.

I think this must stem from a 1950s idea of your body and 'private parts' being unclean in some way and need disinfecting.

Goodness knows what it does to your skin and delicate mucous membranes in a bath,
