Ltb!

LBOCS2 · 08/04/2020 09:01

Yeah, we always put a little bit of water in at the end of the bottle, just to loosen up the dregs before throwing it away. I turn my shampoo bottle upside down to get the last of that out, leaving a bit of soap in the dispenser feels wasteful!

JinglingHellsBells · 08/04/2020 09:03

Does hand sanitizer remove stuff off your hands or just kill germs?

Hand san is basically strong alcohol which stops bugs growing/ living.

It does not remove anything. It's far better to wash your hands properly unless you are out somewhere and can't access running water and soap.

daisypond · 08/04/2020 09:04

I spent £2 on two bottles of soap the other day. It's not expensive
But why would you do that? Bar soap is much cheaper, lasts longer and is more effective. I don’t understand why anyone buys bottles of soap.

Fluffybutter · 08/04/2020 09:05

I add a little water to it when it’s nearly empty , makes it last a little longer and works just as well

Tonyaster · 08/04/2020 09:05

I use bar soap in the shower and bath, as do the dcs. Bar soap in the kitchen and downstairs loo gets messy and irritating so we have hand soap dispensers there.

Thehop · 08/04/2020 09:06

Just tie an elastic band round the base of the pump, it dispenses half as much.

Fluffybutter · 08/04/2020 09:06

@daisypond because it feels horrible and it’s messy .
What’s there to understand?

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 08/04/2020 09:06

Don’t worry, it will be fine, is it is too watered down just don’t add water to your hands until you are ready to rinse them.

PineappleDanish · 08/04/2020 09:07

Adding water works wonders with hair conditioner too - that's about the only bath/shower thing I still buy in bottles. Add a bit of water and you can get at least another 3 or 4 uses out of the bottle.

It's not tight-fisted, it's about reducing waste.

Tonyaster · 08/04/2020 09:08

Thehop might try that, thanks!

MrsClatterbuck · 08/04/2020 09:09

I either read or heard Dr Sarah Jarvis say that if using bar soap to rinse it afterwards and pat it dry. She seemed to be advocating to use liquid soap. I actually started using bar soap more over a year ago. Definitely cuts down on the plastic. I have been wondering would it be better to wipe down handles etc with any cleaner that dissolves grease but not necessarily anti bac as obviously anti bac will not work on viruses

daisypond · 08/04/2020 09:09

because it feels horrible and it’s messy
In what way does it feel horrible, and how is it messy? I really don’t understand. I’ve never bought liquid soap, so perhaps I’m missing something. It’s always seemed like a big merchandising con to me.

SoupDragon · 08/04/2020 09:10

What’s there to understand?

Obviously "what there is to understand" is why other people don't like bar soap if you can't see what's wrong with it. Just like every other thing that some people like and others don't.

iVampire · 08/04/2020 09:12

You must be very frugal to feel the need to do this

a) there is nothing wrong with being frugal
b) we need to slash single use plastics

thethoughtfox · 08/04/2020 09:12

Every professional I have heard speak about this says bar soap is the best.

Tonyaster · 08/04/2020 09:14

I like both bar and liquid soap for different things.

I use fairy liquid platinum to wash keys and door handles.

No fatty layer can withstand that f**ker.

snowegg · 08/04/2020 09:14

Caught my dad doing this before lockdown. To get the last dregs out the bottom. Told him it's not a jar or Dolmio and to open another one.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/04/2020 09:15

In what way does it feel horrible, and how is it messy?

Watered down liquid soap is sloppier and you're liable to squirt out more than you intended.

Unless you've refilled a dispenser with a soap which is a bit more viscous than works with that particular pump, diluting it is likely to be a false economy, except for that annoying last bit of course.

WoollyFoolly · 08/04/2020 09:22

A question for the people who add water to the end rather than throw it away - why don't you just tip it into the new bottle? I always do that, leave one bottle balanced upturned on the new bottle for 10 minutes so it all oozes out, then the old bottle is recycled.
I'm planning on making liquid soap from some bar soap we have (basically grate it and dissolve it in boiling water) - I prefer the feel of liquid soap.

diddl · 08/04/2020 09:24

Why has he done it Op?

Because he thinks that you are running out?

Do you buy refills at all?

Tonyaster · 08/04/2020 09:25

It's just one of those things I do!

Spam88 · 08/04/2020 09:25

Ugh I hate this. I feel simultaneously sickened and enraged when that watery liquid hits my hand.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/04/2020 09:28

I do, but there's always enough left stuck to the sides for another wash.Grin

AmelieTaylor · 08/04/2020 09:30

@MrsClatterbuck it would be better to use the things that destroy the virus. Bleach or Dettol mixed as per the instructions.
