Drink with neighbour

I live in a block of flats that form a 'U' shape so all our balconies face out on each other. My neighbour and I both work from home, so the last couple of evenings we've both popped out on our respective balconies for a glass of wine and a chat. Quite a few others around the 'U' have and tbh it's been lovely and good fun. Threw my neighbour over a mini roll, so am even counting it as part of my daily exercise Grin. Balconies are a good Richard Osmound apart.
Some of the threads on here though are making me doubt this is within the spirit of the guidelines? Thoughts?

I think it’s fine though not sure about the transfer of snacks 😂 Our Mental Health is important too, and if this helps, it’s a good thing.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 07/04/2020 13:44

Are you all 2m apart? Then fine. You're sticking to the guidelines. I know some mumsnetters would have you think otherwise, but the guidelines do not ban nice moments or fun. You are allowed to enjoy yourself as long as it is within the social distancing guidelines!

AliasGrape · 07/04/2020 13:47

Fine apart from sharing snacks - guess that would be fine too if he removed wrapper, binned it and washed his hands before eating/touching face/touching other surfaces.

ByAppointmentTo · 07/04/2020 13:48

That's absolutely fine. Enjoy it! I wouldn't pass snacks to each other though.

WorraLiberty · 07/04/2020 14:04

Thoughts?

I think you just wanted to post and tell us about this lovely story.

Enjoy Wine

MereDintofPandiculation · 07/04/2020 14:07

Well, according to posters on our local FB group, if you're enjoying it, you're breaking the rules. "It's not supposed to be a holiday".

AlpacaGoodnight · 07/04/2020 14:25

YANBU other than the snack!

SimonJT · 07/04/2020 14:26

We live in flats with a small courtyard and the balconies/windows face in. We have been doing it most nights.

Bluesheep8 · 07/04/2020 14:29

Mini roll throwing Grin

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 07/04/2020 14:32

My neighbours borrowed some plastic cups and a bouncy ball to play beer ping pong over the weekend. I dropped them over the fence into a bucket of bleach 🤣

sillysmiles · 07/04/2020 16:31

People needs to be physical apart, not miserable!
Enjoy the perks of your balconies.

heartsonacake · 07/04/2020 16:38

You shouldn’t be sharing anything, including snacks.

Stefoscope · 07/04/2020 16:57

I don't see the problem so long as you're 2m apart. Your neighbour can always wash their hands after eating the mini roll. It's no different to eating something they bought from a shop or a takeaway.

TheVanguardSix · 07/04/2020 17:03

Not just any old 2 metres apart, Richard Osman 2 metres apart. Grin
Winning rhymes with winning, OP. You're going to be alright.

5foot5 · 07/04/2020 17:08

Sounds fine to me. But judging by some of the responses on the "driveway drinks" thread the other day there will be bound to be someone coming along who says that if you do anything remotely enjoyable during lock down then you are being selfish and "breaking the rules"

ThePlantsitter · 07/04/2020 17:12

You're finding pleasure in this lockdown and that's against the rules.

Not really, it's fine. Also don't ask permission, you're an adult who understands instructions.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 07/04/2020 17:18

How dare you have a good time in lockdown, don’t you know every-time you have fun your killing people!

Kidding of course, it’s absolutely fine. Your on your separate balconies, I mean don’t go snogging across the balcony or anything and your good

Enjoy

unchienandalusia · 07/04/2020 17:36

of course it's fine!

PuppyMonkey · 07/04/2020 17:39

Outrageous, OP. I suppose it’ll be singing next. Stay indoors and turn that light out.

Scrumbleton · 07/04/2020 20:10

Fill yer boots - no snack tossing tho

Coldemort · 08/04/2020 00:30

Ok, time to come clean...

I'm on another thread where I mentioned the exact situation that happened above. I have no problem that this is completely ok, right down to the mini roll tossing Grin.

But we wondered if the mumsnet rules police would come out... they didn't, you're lovely, and I didn't make note if neighbour washed her hands after catching my expert throw Smile

Clymene · 08/04/2020 00:39

I'm surprised the poster from the driveway thread hasn't been along to tell you about spreading germs through guffawing

redcarbluecar · 08/04/2020 00:50

Sounds great OP. I wish I lived in a U shape with friendly neighbours. Enjoy.

BumpyNugget · 08/04/2020 01:00

I wish you were my neighbour.

All there is tonight on my balcony is the disgusting stench of bloody weed. Cannot even have the door open as the smell nauseates me terribly.

One of my neighbours is definitely enjoying lockdown too sodding much.

custardbear · 08/04/2020 06:56

No snack sharing Wink
And who ever said earlier 'eat the mini roll then wash hands' ... please do your research on cross contamination .... at that point it's too late, the damage would be done!
