Drink with neighbour

I live in a block of flats that form a 'U' shape so all our balconies face out on each other. My neighbour and I both work from home, so the last couple of evenings we've both popped out on our respective balconies for a glass of wine and a chat. Quite a few others around the 'U' have and tbh it's been lovely and good fun. Threw my neighbour over a mini roll, so am even counting it as part of my daily exercise Grin. Balconies are a good Richard Osmound apart.
Some of the threads on here though are making me doubt this is within the spirit of the guidelines? Thoughts?

Did you not see photage from italy? They're all on balconies. Throwing a mini loaf on thr other hand....Wink

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 08/04/2020 07:08

Haha, fun police had not come out yet! A lovely idea. Feeling sorry for the person who posted a few days ago they wanted to have a drink on their own driveway with their neighbors having a drink on their (neighbour's) driveway and people screamed them down that it's a LOCKDOWN and not allowed...

Normalmumandwife · 08/04/2020 07:39

We have a group of neighbours with a communal drive area. They have all sat out about 4 metres apart having drinks and also brought out the BBQ at one point. Looked great fun

JudyCoolibar · 08/04/2020 07:43

I love the idea of the Richard Osman measure. From now on I shall have to whirr him mentally around my head when I'm doing that essential shopping - if he's knocking people over in my imagination, they're too close.

midnightstar66 · 08/04/2020 07:51

I wonder why this is ok but sitting even more out in the open on a drive way is not - they hadn't even intended to snack share 😆. Maybe the fun police just haven't made it to this thread (or maybe they are just jealous of people that have drives and fake dwelling is already acceptable enough hardship)

tinkerbellla · 08/04/2020 07:59

Sounds lovely! Enjoy.

Raffathebear · 08/04/2020 08:04

Ok i will spoil it with my NO FUN POLICE contribution.

Are you making it noisy for everyone else forced to listen to your conversation? Its a known fact the more you drink the louder yoir voice becomes. There might be poorly people at home with covid needing much needed rest Grin

ColourMyDreams · 08/04/2020 08:08

What? You're having fun during lockdown? How could you, you should be tarred and feathered, tarred and feathered I tell you!
Or something.
No OP, seriously, go for it. It sounds like moral boosting good fun 😁

Saladaysior · 08/04/2020 08:38

YABVU to sully a nice glass of wine with a mini roll. Everyone knows mini rolls go with a mid afternoon cup of tea. Everyone should have had a small bowl of (their own) posh crisps.

ThanosSavedMe · 08/04/2020 08:43

Sounds lovely op, the best we’ve been able to do is zoom drinks

Ledkr · 08/04/2020 09:19

Sounds fun.
Me and dh had a club night on saturday Grin we are planning another one on Friday night. House music and some karaoke. We like to annoy our teen Dd Wink

Stefoscope · 08/04/2020 10:02

No snack sharing wink And who ever said earlier 'eat the mini roll then wash hands' ... please do your research on cross contamination .... at that point it's too late, the damage would be done!

Mini rolls come individually wrapped, I'm assuming the neighbour isn't stupid enough to lick the wrapper.

Disressingtimes · 08/04/2020 10:08

Can anyone link to the driveway thread please? I must have missed that one
Thanks

OP -sounds a lovely, safe way to socialise.

Stefoscope · 08/04/2020 10:11

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3872465-Are-driveway-drinks-allowed - Don't forget to bleach your eyes after reading! @Disressingtimes

OldGranvilleHouse · 08/04/2020 23:58

Well I’m jealous of you, OP Envy

I’m with others who have said that it’s fine so long as you’re at least 2m apart, although maybe no snack sharing. In these times, I think it’s great that you’ve found a way to have some interaction and fun. And you’ll probably find that there’ll be much more of a community friendship going on when all of this is over.

Malvinaa81 · 09/04/2020 00:06

You sound smug and self satisfied.

Summersun77 · 09/04/2020 00:37

@Malvinaa81 and you sound like a miserable saddo.

Coldemort · 09/04/2020 10:05

@Summersun77 someone needs a glass of wine and mini roll Wink

OldGranvilleHouse · 09/04/2020 22:14

@Malvinaa81 sorry, but I have to agree that you sound like a miserable saddo. Maybe that’s unfair, but it’s how you sound. OP (and her neighbours) sound bang on.
