To think there are some men who will make sexually inappropriate comments in any situation?

I’m currently volunteering for the NHS. I spend a few hours each day at my local doctors’ surgery manning the door so that people can’t enter all at once. I have to make them queue outside, and direct them to the pharmacy/nurses/doctors’ offices, etc, so that we don’t have loads of people crowding round the reception. I’m really enjoying it, and will continue to do this as long as the schools are closed (usually a teacher)

I was on duty this morning, and as a man was leaving after using the pharmacy, he commented loudly to me, “You should be wearing little shorts stood out here, then we could look at your legs while we wait!”

Sad I mean, really? Even in the case of a national emergency, do we really still have to put up with this shit on the reg? Can’t they have a day off from making stupid sexually-based remarks whilst we get on with more important things?

Yuck Envy I save my Paddington Bear Hard Stare for idiots like that.

ConstantlySeekingHappiness · 06/04/2020 13:35

I’ve found that arseholes continue to be arseholes even in a global pandemic.

TruJay · 06/04/2020 13:38

Although you’re a professional in that position he would have been told to fuck right off equally as loudly!

What a shitty thing to do at any time but even more so in the current climate, urgh! Envy not envy!

formerbabe · 06/04/2020 13:38

Yuck...straight out of a 1970s sitcom

justilou1 · 06/04/2020 13:41

“Fuck off, Benny Hill! Security!!! Escort this man off the premises!!!”

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 06/04/2020 13:41

Can you not get him put on a list of patients who've been verbally abusive to staff?

I know probably most stuff receptionists have to deal with is "worse" but still.....

Soontobe60 · 06/04/2020 13:42

Grim! However, women can be equally as sexist imo.

Hoppinggreen · 06/04/2020 13:46

Yes,women are well known for shouting things at men as they pass and making inappropriate comments .
My DD 15 has taken up running to keep fit and sane at the moment- It’s rare she completes her run without a comment from a passing man/men. At the very least she gets a lecherous look.
Funnily enough her male friends haven’t reported the same from women

Boireannachlaidir · 06/04/2020 13:47

"Sexist twats can stay the fuck away" is all you need.

Sadly twats will still behave like twats.

formerbabe · 06/04/2020 13:47

Can they? Do grown women drive round leering at school boys? Do they say "cheer up love" or "give us a smile" to random passing men? In the situation the op described, could you imagine a woman making a similar comment? Do men feel intimidated if walking down a dark, deserted road and there's a woman behind them?

iklboo · 06/04/2020 13:49

I've never had a woman shouting sexist comments at me, nor have I shouted or made sexist comments to a male complete stranger.

Bluntness100 · 06/04/2020 13:54

Agree, but they tend to do it when with their mates, and often after drinking. Many Men feel quite able to do it on their own stone cold sober in the most random of every day situations.

Seldom does a sober woman on her own shout out sexual inneudos to some random bloke just getting on with his day job.

TheStoic · 06/04/2020 14:00

Yeah right. That explains...society. Grin

Confuzzled123 · 06/04/2020 14:03

See, what I don’t get is why we need to compare ‘wrongs’. I’m sure some women do behave badly. The actions of those unrelated women do not invalidate the OP’s feelings about this man’s behaviour.

That always reminds me of the 12th rule of misogyny - I think it’s something like ‘whatever women suffer from men suffer from more’. But don’t quote me on that!

TheArchSorcererofContwaraburg · 06/04/2020 14:04

Yuck! I used to work on a hotline for bereaved people and never had a shift where some pervy bloke didn't ring up to say sexually inappropriate things. We could just hang up.

Hoppinggreen · 06/04/2020 14:12

Dd has just come in from her run and stomped upstairs saying “men are pigs!” So I’m assuming she had another comment or look
Again, this doesn’t happen to her Male friends

FizzyGreenWater · 06/04/2020 14:14

Yup, significant proportion of them could really do with being humanely destroyed.

Not sure I'm joking really. Women equally sexist? Oh right. Yep. Sure.

R2519 · 06/04/2020 14:28

OP you should have in a raised voice said 'please can you not make inappropriate comments, its sexual harassment'!

Im glad you put some men rather than men tbh......as a guy i find people like this dickhead vile. I would never dream of making those sorts of comments to a woman. Not only is it inappropriate its completely disrespectful to basically view a person as a piece of meat to leer over.

I would have a word with the pharmacy and perhaps even make a complaint. It may seem silly to involve the police but getting him barred from the pharmacy may make the knob realize he cant make comments like that.

Sunshineeeee · 06/04/2020 14:31

You should have got his appointment cancelled Angry

Fimofriend · 06/04/2020 14:35

No actually all studies show that women are not equally sexist, so please refrain from derailing the thread. Yes, OP some men are sexist in almost every single interaction they have with women and girls

RuffleCrow · 06/04/2020 14:35

I find it really confusing that people are being told to stay at home and go out and volunteer for the nhs in non-jobs. Not being funny op but a simple sign could do your job adequately in most places (and does in shops across the country) and the sign wouldn't be putting itself at increased risk of covid-19.

MsTSwift · 06/04/2020 14:38

“Women equally as sexist” well that’s given me a laugh at least!

1forAll74 · 06/04/2020 14:38

Maybe the man was being a bit humorous,to kind of lighten these days of worry. It wouldn't bother me, I would think of something funny to say back to him !

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 06/04/2020 14:42

Christ alive does a special MAN KLAXON go off any time someone comments on entitled male behaviour?

7 replies in and already we have the "yeah well women do it too!!! Yah boo sucks how do you like them apples?!"

Despite the facts and statistics proving this is wrong from here to eternity.

TheArchSorcererofContwaraburg · 06/04/2020 14:47

Every shop I've been in has to station people about, too, because the simple sign doesn't do the job, people are too stubborn or thick to obey the signs and think they're still entitled to do what they want.

Maybe the man was being a bit humorous,to kind of lighten these days of worry.

Oh, please!
