Kardashians and Beckhams

itwasadarkandstormy · 05/04/2020 23:24

does anyone actually give a flying fuck about these people at this horrific time? Kim Kardashian posting pictures of herself draped over the sand on some hidden beach and Victoria Beckham filming herself calling nurses with a rallying cheer?

Come on, there are an unprecedented amount of deaths and human tragedy, yet you are cashing in on your 'brand'? For me, it is the height of distaste. They need to fuck off immediately

Where is Paul Burrell in all of this? Surely he has some valuable insights into QE2’s state of mind when making her broadcast last night, and how she likes the cake forks to be polished in times of national emergency.

1forsorrow · 06/04/2020 18:09

They could buy key workers protective masks and gloves. Imagine how much they could provide by what they will spend on a couple of days holiday. How do you know they haven't? My kids did a fund raising thing when they were younger, they asked the Beckhams for an autographed photo to auction, they got phone calls from Victoria's parents, several autographed photos and £5k to the fund. No publicity, no making a fuss. They do lots you don't know about.

Aragog · 06/04/2020 18:13

If it bothers you so much, why look at their posts?

I haven't seen one thing the Kardashians have posted or commented on about CV-19 at all, or tbh anything before that time either. Simply as I haven't gone to look. It is so easily avoided.

Only reason I have seen anything briefly of VB's is because teen DD was looking at something online when I was sat next to her.

And FWIW none of us have a clue whether they have donated anything or not. Most people, famous or not, donate to charities without plastering everywhere anyway.

LochJessMonster · 06/04/2020 18:13

Cannot stand these types of celebrities. Pointless

Ah yes, possibly one of our greatest footballers of all time, plus a member of one of our greatest girl groups of all time. Pointless.

I enjoy a bit of celeb lifestyle, distracts from the real world for a while.

Gingerkittykat · 06/04/2020 18:26

The worst was Jacqueline Jossa who gave a PSA announcement about how selfish people were going out to sunbathe as she was lying on a sunbed in her garden! Then she ranted about people living in flats just had to deal with it.

I agree we need to stay at home but the way she delivered it was wrong.

Chillicheese123 · 06/04/2020 18:29

Jacqueline Jossa was only a few short months ago sobbing hysterically on an hourly basis over being stuck in a fake jungle set up that she could leave at any time, so she can fuck right off

Chillicheese123 · 06/04/2020 18:35

Oh and she’s so proud of her kids for how they’re handling it all. Lovely, we all are, but not everyone’s kids are doing endless rounds of coloring and crafts punctuated by trips to their massive back garden filled with toys and dips in the hot tub! So hypocritical and they just can’t see it

Iamthewombat · 06/04/2020 19:01

HAHAHAHA! You haven’t been able to open a news website or a newspaper over the past few weeks without reading about celebrities bragging about how much they have donated. I see very little evidence of modesty or discretion. Using a crisis as an opportunity to get your gurning mug in the news is worse than ostentatious charitable donation.

ChickLitLover · 06/04/2020 19:13

Well people always can’t wait to moan about the Beckhams, don’t know much about the Kardashians.

I find anyone posting attention seeking shite to be very annoying though. VB phoning nurses and then putting the video online is similar in my eyes to clapping for Carers and putting it on Facebook. Just do what you’re doing, I don’t agree with getting glory for it. It should be a selfless act to truly be kind in my opinion.

I do think the Beckhams get a huge amount of hate which doesn’t seem justified though.

BackforGood · 06/04/2020 19:15

Well, again Iamthewombat it depends what websites or newspapers you are opening, and where you get your news from generally. I can quite honestly say I haven't seen any information or stories about anybody - celebrity or otherwise - donating to charity.

We all choose where we get our gossip 'news' from, at all times, not just during this crisis.

WorraLiberty · 06/04/2020 19:15

How are you seeing these people though OP?

I wouldn't have the faintest clue what they're all doing because I'm not even slightly interested.

VeryLittleOwl · 06/04/2020 20:22

It was quite appreciated at our local hospital, seemingly. But then we're in a very remote part of the UK that often feels forgotten about by the Scottish government, let alone the rest of the country: www.johnogroat-journal.co.uk/news/victoria-beckham-boosts-morale-at-caithness-general-hospital-195876/

HAHAHAHA! I’ll translate this: “you are thick and read the wrong news for lowbrow people, not like intellectual old me! I only read The Economist and the London Review of Books, honest.”

HAHAHAHA! Insecure, are you?

Iamthewombat · 06/04/2020 21:04

Here is an extract from the John O’Groats Journal posted by a PP:

At the end of the video link call, Victoria Beckham told the staff at Caithness General: "Thank you so much again for everything you are doing. I just feel very humbled to be talking to you."

When sharing the video on Instagram on Saturday she commented: "Yesterday I had the humbling opportunity to speak to an NHS team in Scotland. Please have a look and listen to what they are saying.

Ever so ‘umble, isn’t she? Or she might be if she knew that she was using the word out of context.

According to the story she is calling hospitals up and down Britain: Manchester and London included. Apparently organised by ‘a friend of a friend who works for Victoria Beckham’. Her PR team, more like. Also, she posted the videos of the calls on Instagram in case anybody missed it. That’s how humble and publicity-shunning those people are.

BackforGood · 06/04/2020 21:21

er..... I don't read either of those, in fact, haven't heard of the second.

Don't think I am the insecure one.

I don't have any issue with anyone reading whatever they want. Or watching whatever they want. Or checking whatever social media they want except anything that exploits anyone .

But most people read about stuff that interests them - be that economics as you suggest, celebrities as you are moaning about, railway timetables (a bit niche, but people do), sport (very popular but moaned about a lot on MN), or something else altogether.

The issue here is people complaining about 'having to' read about stuff that other folk are pointing out you only see if you read particular types of publication or social media.

Iamthewombat · 06/04/2020 21:23

Rowing back now, eh?

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 06/04/2020 22:11

exactly

phoenixrosehere · 06/04/2020 22:12
  • YABU, because, in order to come across these stories, you are obviously reading the type of media that bothers to promote it. You have opted in

Exactly - it's like the IG threads on here. People whinging about "pointless" influencers but still know/watch the ins and outs of everything they do.
I didn't even know they'd been "draping themselves over sand" for example.
Step away if they annoy you?
No-one's forcing you to read about them.
As somebody said upthread - if they're sticking to social distancing rules etc, what the hell does it matter?*

Agree. So sick of people moaning about what others are doing or how they think others should behave or feel. We all know what’s going on, it’s broadcasted bloody everywhere. Heaven forbid people do a bit of escapism and not be constantly thinking about death and tragedy. If you don’t like what they’re doing or don’t want to see them ignore it, keep scrolling, hide them, etc. No one is forcing you to give them any attention.

Carbosug · 06/04/2020 22:32

Well hopefully this 5 minutes of fame culture might disappear after all of this. Maybe we'll start valuing people who have done something extraordinary or have real talent and not fame hungry nobodies vying to be papped every time they go to the supermarket.

StoneofDestiny · 06/04/2020 22:35

Vacuous people do vacuous things.

DdraigGoch · 06/04/2020 22:38

I didn't pay them any attention in normal times.

Iamthewombat · 06/04/2020 22:41

I’ll talk about, and post about, whomever I like, thanks.

rayoflightboy · 06/04/2020 22:49

All these posters, saying they don't know who they are.Dont follow them, still opened a thread about them though.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 06/04/2020 22:52

I've never said I don't know who they are.
You'd have to have lived under a rock to never have heard of the Kardshians or Beckhams.
To know they're draping themselves over rocks or ringing up NHS or whatever, you'd have to be reading articles like that in the first place.
Bit different to idly opening an AIBU on MN to see what it's about.

Thescrewinthetuna · 06/04/2020 22:55

Most celebrities are narcissistic cunts and this pandemic has highlighted it even more. Some famous people are OK and just living their lives but most of them are the worst. Irrelevant, talentless and pointless.
