To be annoyed at note through door asking us to clap

tainot · 05/04/2020 23:09

Seriously, surely everyone knows about the clapping at this point and would do it if they wanted to/could?

I don't need a note through my door to make me feel crappy for not taking part. I thought at first it was a note asking if anyone needs assistance/shopping etc but nope, just a passive aggressive note thanking everyone for taking part and if those that haven't could join in this week. Eff that.

Don't get me wrong I applaud the NHS and keyworkers and have the upmost respect for them but I'm not clapping for my own practical reasons (getting baby to sleep is hard work, I'm not going to clap/bang pots just to wake them up again).

I'm not sure if it's my own attitude thats the problem or I'm rightly annoyed at people trying to guilt trip us into clapping. I don't need that, I've donated money and food in the last couple of weeks, I go out as little as possible (rarely), I'm doing my bit.

Stating that people of all races merit equal rights was (and still is) "inflammatory" to some people. They are responsible for their frustration. Not the speaker. We can respond to the un-truth of a point if we can. But we must not resort to silencing it if we can't. Best wishes.

What? That's not what was spoken about here. Don't change the narrative or start telling lies about what you've posted on this thread.

TrishTeres · 08/04/2020 09:36

Totally agree with all proper care for STIs or anything else. But where people are deliberately making choices that damage their health them I think there needs to be a discussion around them being billed for the treatment. We have people with genuine health needs who are not getting the care they need. Peo

When a person is pregnant we say "we are having a baby"
People call a scan ababy scan.
We should not change our terms according to what our intentions are.any wem deeply regret abortion and abortion providors use such terms to try and distance her from how she may feel in the future.

Hope that helps with my response to the points you raise.

TrishTeres · 08/04/2020 09:37

E.g.People are far more careful with oral hygiene since dental care is not free.

MouthBreathingRage · 08/04/2020 09:43

@TrishTeres, just stop talking bollocks. The term 'abortion' is a medical one. When I had a miscarriage a couple of weeks ago, the nurses and doctors I saw all referred to it as a 'spontaneous abortion' - it is a medical term that means 'the pregnancy has ended'. The only one trying to change terms is yourself, for your little crusade.

Give up the empty repetitive gestures, of keep them going / your choice.
Remember / this government were getting ready to sell off our NHS to Trump’s pals.
Just keep a long memory and protect our NHS when this is all over. Fight for more funding, better equipment and a guarantee it is safe for future generations.

Morning, everyone. We've deleted a few posts on this thread that we felt broke talk guidelines. We're concerned the thread is getting a little derailed here, which is a bit unfair on the OP, so we'd be really grateful if we could get things back on track now.

Michellelovesizzy · 08/04/2020 11:30

I have just told my mum and sister this both nurses workin on the front line in nhs hospitals. They have both said the clap is lovely but they hate that some1 is puttin notes though ur door. I myself didnt clap last week just because i fell asleep. Missed it. But thats doesent mean i dont support the nhs.

MouthBreathingRage · 08/04/2020 11:30

@HebeMumsnet, I agree with your post. However the one by the poster TrishTeres posted at 08.34am is still standing. I would again say this post contains upsetting material for some that use this site and ask politely that it's removed.

Michellelovesizzy · 08/04/2020 11:34

Yeah ur right mouth breathing rage.... highly offencive. Surly this trisha is a troll.

Michellelovesizzy · 08/04/2020 11:38

In fact must of trish has said is inaccurate and highly offencive. Maybe all the post should be removed

Please can you explain what this has to do with race as you were the first period to bring race into it? Thank you

SpeedwellBlue · 08/04/2020 12:03

Person not period

melspur · 08/04/2020 12:22

As a supermarket worker (I pick the home shopping orders) I'm starting work at 2am at the moment so know that at 8pm I'll be sound asleep, I'd be extremely annoyed if anyone had the nerve to post that through my door. It's your choice AND you have a good reason.

Susan1961 · 08/04/2020 14:25

My partner forgot, I'm out most days as a domiciliary support worker, it was morale boosting, but I can forgive & forget 😭😭😭

Aloux · 08/04/2020 17:20

Just bin the note and forget about it u don't have to do it

shadypines · 08/04/2020 20:45

Seriously? Someone is asking you ( an adult), via a note, to say 'thankyou' for something? They need to realise that that was your parents' job when you were little, not their job now. Basically, well meanng or not they could do with minding their own business. If it had come through my letterbox I'd have thought it a tad cheeky to say the least.

shadypines · 08/04/2020 20:47

I'm sure people can be grateful without making a show of it, that isn't everyones cup of tea. Some people will do it in other quieter ways but, ahem , they can't be videod and put on social media...

SallyB392 · 09/04/2020 21:23

OP, like you, I don't go out and clap, and that doesn't mean that I don't appreciate ALL the efforts of ALL essential workers keeping our country running to support us, including the NHS.

Why don't I go out? I don't find it easy to go out at any time, and being a part of a large group, where I can be seen is one step too far. At the moment maintaining my own health & equilibrium is the best thing I can do for the NHS.

No one should judge anyone for not following the trend. No one knows why people might not be, and there may be many reasons. OP you don't need to justify yourself to anyone, and the person who put the note through your door is in the wrong, as is anyone judging here!

Cantona10 · 09/04/2020 23:06

Once of a day there was similar (but much stronger) pressure to conform to "Heil Hitler".

StoneofDestiny · 10/04/2020 05:32

Not sure how anybody knows who is clapping. Some clap outside the back of their homes, others the front. The street spies need to put their 'talents' to better use!

ric12 · 28/05/2020 16:43

@MadameMeursault

Oh God, it’s like those self-righteous people who judge others for forgetting to wear a poppy.

Put a big sign in your window saying “I show my appreciation for the NHS by never voting Tory”

I show my appreciation for the NHS by letting my son's student nurse girlfriend live at mine rent-free with her little boy, while she does her placement on the Covid ward.

Oh, and I voted Tory, because I don't like Jew-baiting communists.

knittingaddict · 28/05/2020 16:50

It would be obvious in our row of houses. Personally my support for the NHS is mostly keeping my coronavirus addled body out of hospital. I haven't given into pressure to clap along.

My neighbour is out there with some kind of loud horn every week. He had a get together in his garden a few weeks ago with no social distancing, so he would have trouble adopting moral superiority.

BringPizza · 28/05/2020 17:08

There's been talk on our village FB page about 'should we carry on regardless of the originator calling time'. Personally I've not done it once, I have donated to PPE funds as a more productive measure. I find en masse PDA things like this a bit cringey to be honest, which clearly says something about me. About 1/3 of the neighbours go out rattling their pans and blowing horns, and I expect they have some great production planned for tonight's last hurrah.
