Woman walked out of Tesco in front of me carrying 2 cucumbers only! Wtf?

I wasn't going to reply anymore to this ridiculous thread but you did make me laugh.

Buy a rucksack, buy a shopping trolley. Get rid of the booze. Of course it's perfectly possible to carry a full shop for 2 weeks Grin Grin Grin

ThatFriendsReunion · 05/04/2020 22:29

I wonder how these posters who MUST go to the shop every time they remember they need 1 yogurt, 1 apple or 1 cucumber will cope when we have real restrictions.

I know people are laughing about them now, but they were laughing about school closing, shops banning groups and so on. It still happened. And if you look at what is currently legal in countries we have been following so far, you will have an inkling what is coming.

If people had accepted to show a little of common sense, a little bit of respect for the NHS staff who are begging people to stay home and would love nothing more than staying home themselves, we wouldn't go there.

Why are people so keen on pushing us to a real lockdown is beyond me. It's more than grim. Have you all got such huge properties and land that you won't care? Have you not got anyone you are missing? Absolutely puzzling.

Sparklesocks · 05/04/2020 22:33

@ThatFriendsReunion that’s quite simplistic, not everyone is able bodied and can carry a huge shop even with a rucksack/trolley etc

ThatFriendsReunion · 05/04/2020 22:39

I'd highly recommend these kind of Aldi trolleys.

I am not being sarcastic, even my grandmother manages a big shop with one of those. No way would she be able to carry the equivalent if she had to lift the plastic bags...

MOST people can carry a big shop, but many of those who can are full of excuses.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 05/04/2020 22:43

Ive got one of those trolleys

Its got owls on

Its huge, i use it for christmas shopping

h3av3n · 05/04/2020 22:45

"MOST people can carry a big shop" Not true at all... I lift weights and can't... especially if you need to walk far... Have you actually tried carrying a big shop even for just one mile?

Stefoscope · 05/04/2020 22:45

@ThatFriendsReunion the point is the OP doesn't know how frequently 'cucumber lady' has visited the shops during lockdown. If that was her first outing in 2 weeks then where's the harm? Less risky to be in and out in a few minutes then going around a supermarket touching everything and leisurely pootling around for an hour. Infantilizing people and policing their purchases is far more likely to create problems.

TitianaTitsling · 05/04/2020 23:08

Are we going to get a pitchfork or big pointy finger emoji @mnhq? It would make it an awfully lot easier for some posters.. we already have the Halo one for those who are 'doing it right'.... Star

TimeAintNothing · 05/04/2020 23:09

I suggest this big pointy finger 🖕🏼

OwlBeThere · 05/04/2020 23:10

My kid with severe food aversions only eats 3 things. Cucumber being one of them. But I’m only allowed 3 at a time. 3 cucumbers doesn’t last long with 4 kids one of whom is eating them a lot and is 15 and 6ft4.
So I might well only buy cucumber one day. Is that ok? I can’t afford to buy other stuff just Cos it makes you feel better.

PontiacBandit · 05/04/2020 23:12

They are in this house, one of few vegetables the kids will eat without bargaining and the Guinea pigs are obsessed with cucumber. I have to buy 2-3 a week. I wonder if people consider me a cucumber sexual pervert. Shock

TitianaTitsling · 05/04/2020 23:14

In the interim....

to wonder if cucumbers are an essential purchase?
TitianaTitsling · 05/04/2020 23:15

@TimeAintNothing I like it!

TimeAintNothing · 05/04/2020 23:27

Footage from outside the supermarket where this... this... human garbage bought her cucumbers.

to wonder if cucumbers are an essential purchase?
theliverpoolone · 06/04/2020 00:01

Maybe she went in for cucumbers, flour, baked beans and wipes.....if I was to do that where I live, I'd only be coming out with a cucumber too....Hmm

ultrablue · 06/04/2020 00:20

Hmm so I went to Lidl today for an essential shop, went 30 mins before closing to minimise interaction etc, guess what? They stopped people entering at 3.30 (they shut at 4) watched other customers arguing with staff. No they were adamant no one else was coming in. Went to the little supermarket across the road and purchased the things on my list they stocked.. guessing they aren't the perceived essentials but what are we supposed to do?

TigerQueenie · 06/04/2020 06:54

Unless she walloped you with the cucumbers, it's none of your business at all.

Makeitgoaway · 06/04/2020 07:53

I went into a shop yesterday for a bag of sugar, which I've been trying to buy for a while now. They didn't have any but I came out with icecream . I expect I was judged.

saraclara · 06/04/2020 08:10

Buying enough potatoes and milk for two weeks would put me at my limit for carrying anything home. It's factual to think that anyone can carry two weeks worth of food home for a single person, never mind a family.

Namechangedforthisreply7 · 06/04/2020 08:19

This week I went to supermarket 1 which had no supplies for my child with a severe food allergy. I got everything I could ft shop 1 but then went to supermarket 2, a short distance away, for food that won’t make my child very ill. It was only a handful of products. I’m sure people were judging me as the OP is now judging someone else.

Could we all please stop judging other people’s actions. You don’t know what’s going on with them when you write off their behaviour with no knowledge of the reasons or potential consequences. Maybe that woman has a child who will only eat cucumbers as a veg and they didn’t have any in Asda/Sainsburys/wherever. Do you really think she’d voluntarily go to more than one supermarket, these days and with current restrictions/waiting times, for fun?

Honestly, the moral police are getting worse to deal with than the offenders. Whatever happened to #bekind from shortly before lockdown?

Please, everyone, think twice before you judge. Think three times before you repeat that judgement openly or online. Things will be much more pleasant if we assume people are just doing their best to keep their families happy and healthy. Because the vast majority of us are simply doing that, even if what we do is a little bit different to you.

Be kind.

StrawberrySquash · 06/04/2020 08:37

I bought a single item last week because I'd forgotten my pound for the trolley (had left handbag at home as I was trying to maximise food I could carry home on foot) and needed some change. Messed up my plan of contactless, but that was why I bought just one item.

C8H10N4O2 · 06/04/2020 08:49

Twin cucumbers you say?

Downunderduchess · 06/04/2020 08:51

Have you bought anything that could be considered a snack food? That’s non essential, so if you have why?

I have purchased some extra bits & pieces whilst getting the other grocery items. People eat a varied diet.

Woeismethischristmas · 06/04/2020 09:04

I'd love to know whether any of the posters merrily declaring you can last for weeks without food have ever gone hungry. Cognitive functions would be reduced, survival instincts would kick in and we'd have baying mobs on the streets. Always suspect they're the ones with emergency freezers and two years worth of toilet paper.

Snaga · 06/04/2020 09:17

@Eckhart of course - I'm just being even more selfish thinking of involving the police. Flagellation it is!
