Sunday afternoon noise!

I was sitting in my suburban garden, it’s lovely here and we’re not going out for ‘exercise’ today as it will be crowded in any open space. My next door neighbours and their many grown children who all still live at home have as usual got music on at full blast and now someone has decided to sand something down,
AIBU to think on a Sunday afternoon I should be able to sit in peace especially in current circumstances? They are in all other ways delightful but every Winter I forget just how thoughtless they are in this respect.

The music depending on the volume is antisocial- some diy on a warm day on lock down, absolutely fine and expected. I hear various lawn mowers going on.

Jupiters · 05/04/2020 14:59

This sounds like my neighbours. They appear to have no concept that they live in a semi-detached house and the rest of the neighborhood may not like trance...

Livelovebehappy · 05/04/2020 15:05

Sanding and general house repairs and gardening noise is absolutely acceptable. In fact a lot of people are spending the lock down sorting out their houses. But loud music is not ok lock down or not.

OpenWheelRace · 05/04/2020 15:07

In Germany its illegal to make noise on Sundays. Or it was a few years ago when I lived there. I coukd get on board with a Quiet Sunday Rule here!

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 05/04/2020 15:08

When you live near others you get noise 🤷🏻‍♀️

Gardening and sanding noise is completely acceptable

Loud music, not in lockdown or not

rubberoftheband · 05/04/2020 15:10

Sanding 🤷‍♀️, music too loud, maybe ask them to turn it down?

angstridden2 · 05/04/2020 15:12

But they’re at home all week at the moment....why do diy on the loveliest Sunday this year?the kids seem to never be out at the weekends and I doubt they’ll ever leave home....too much fun to be had as a pack! Been like this for many years and in all other ways they’re great...just loud!

A friend has taken to Facebook to complain about his NNs noise. The neighbor joined in the post, was surprised as he thought it was a lovely, quiet cul de sac, he never heard anyone's music, all his neighbours are lovely people!

Friend is trying to find a way of telling him Grin

TheEndIsBillNighy · 05/04/2020 15:13

Neither would annoy me. Unless it was jazz music

rubberoftheband · 05/04/2020 15:17

They may beat home all week, but working!

I'm working from home, DH still working out of the home, therefore weekends means garden work and diy.

hesgotit · 05/04/2020 15:18

*be at not beat!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 05/04/2020 15:20

EquAlly if most of us are home all wk does it matter that it’s a Sunday? Sunbath mid week

OldUnit · 05/04/2020 15:20

And to think I felt guilty at quickly jet washing my patio off earlier!

angstridden2 · 05/04/2020 15:46

None of them have jobs can do wfh, so all at home doing nothing.i suppose this means the noise will go on as long as the weather holds!
Just totally oblivious to anyone else....

Depends on their taste in music. Whats on?

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 05/04/2020 15:54

I don't think it being Sunday makes any difference at the moment, but playing music too loud is annoying at any time.

Goawayquickly · 05/04/2020 16:00

Full blast music is awful, my old neighbors did this constantly and it made me ill with stress, my house used to shake and I'd have to keep every window closed.

Its lovely now, I can hear mowers, children playing, quiet background music all around me and it's comforting to know life is going on but not disturbing or distressing others by being selfish

FlamingoQueen · 05/04/2020 16:03

I used my power washer this morning. Started at 10.30 am and used for an hour. I thought most people are pottering about in the morning (neighbours both sides wfh in week now) and I didn’t want the noise to intrude on their afternoon. Some people are thoughtful. Yours are not!

vanillandhoney · 05/04/2020 16:04

I can't imagine it bothering me. People around here have been playing in gardens and doing DIY all week. At the moment, I don't see Sunday as being any different to any other day of the week!

Music, whatever. Power tools otoh set my teeth on edge and drive me indoors.

angstridden2 · 05/04/2020 16:12

Sorted..have found earplugs and now it’s just a faint noise!

I don’t think you can expect peace if you live in a detached house tbh. Between us and our neighbors there’s hardly been a second of silence this weekend, just lawn mowers, music and chattering. We even all sing along to each other’s. I quite like feeling like there are other people around at the moment. If you want peace move house, or for a cheaper solution, ear plugs Wink

Neacy · 05/04/2020 16:17

Where we live it’s supposed to be no DIY on a Sunday and bank holidays, but people still do, especially my noisy neighbours, whose barbecue is still going strong as I write this, no music at the moment though.

I feel for you.

gingercat02 · 05/04/2020 16:19

DH was chop sawing wood yesterday. He's now emptying the shed to a "politics" playlist and I'm painting the fence. Be glad you don't live beside us 😂🤣
