Sunday afternoon noise!

angstridden2 · 05/04/2020 14:53

I was sitting in my suburban garden, it’s lovely here and we’re not going out for ‘exercise’ today as it will be crowded in any open space. My next door neighbours and their many grown children who all still live at home have as usual got music on at full blast and now someone has decided to sand something down,
AIBU to think on a Sunday afternoon I should be able to sit in peace especially in current circumstances? They are in all other ways delightful but every Winter I forget just how thoughtless they are in this respect.

They sound like proper selfish twats

simplekindoflife · 05/04/2020 16:23

My neighbours (who have a about a billion people living there due to their daughters and their dodgy boyfriends popping out kids and then protesting that can't possibly afford to move out, despite offspring buying flash cars and fancy holidays!!) were out screaming and shouting in their garden at 8.30 this morning! Angry

They then lit a bbq the minute our washing was out and the kids are now screaming while their parents tell them to 'STFU'... Hmm

They also smoke weed and frequently block our drive with their medley of cars.

Been here over 10 years but I'm now on RightMove...

Wehttam · 05/04/2020 16:23

I miss those sounds of suburban life, I live in an apartment tower in the city, all you can hear from my balcony is meditation music and the odd siren

Malvinaa81 · 05/04/2020 16:26

I agree about loud music.

But sanding???

Vinipote · 05/04/2020 16:29

This is our neighbours right now. Music is absolutely blasting around the estate. Feel sorry for the elderly neighbour the other side.

Slith · 05/04/2020 16:38

But they’re at home all week at the moment....why do diy on the loveliest Sunday this year?
Maybe it's outside DIY?

izzywizzygood · 05/04/2020 16:39

Totally agree OP. Funny how people can only do DIY and mow their law when it's really sunny, and not when it's a teeny bit cold or grey.

Great idea that Germany has to make it illegal to make noise on a Sunday @OpenWheelRace

Must be a lot of these inconsiderate, noisy people determined to ruin everyone's sunny day here on MN if so many of you have voted "YABU".

GaaaaarlicBread · 05/04/2020 16:43

We must have the same neighbours !! Absolute nightmare , I’m pregnant and dying for an afternoon nap whilst my husband is at work and it hasn’t happened due to the noise ! 😟

rubberoftheband · 05/04/2020 16:52

Must be a lot of these inconsiderate, noisy people determined to ruin everyone's sunny day here on MN if so many of you have voted "YABU".

Or more tolerant and realistic people?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 05/04/2020 16:59

In case anyone is interested... someone must have contacted the music player. He's just posted Sorry. But you could have just told me instead of embarrassing me on Facebook

Friend may live with a MNer as his answer was Sorry who are you Grin

Hi.. if you are reading this [waves]

KonTikki · 05/04/2020 17:01

I've just heard about 20 motorbikes roar past on a nearby dual carriageway.

Obviously out for an "essential" ride Hmm

Carbosug · 05/04/2020 17:19

YANBU. But some people think that as long as they're acting strictly within the letter of the law nothing else matters.

DarklyDreamingDexter · 05/04/2020 17:20

My bug bear is the 4 kids at the house at the end of our garden constantly kicking a leather football against the fence and/ or trampolining/screeching all day. I know kids want to play out, fair enough, but the lack of consideration for others in earshot is maddening. There are other children next door and in most of the other houses around here, no problem at all. Just one unbearable family who spoil it for everyone.

StCharlotte · 05/04/2020 17:37

YANBU

I don't expect silence in a suburban garden but our neighbourhood has always been surprisingly quiet until recently

Our newish next door neighbours but one have assailed my ears ALL DAY with the loudest power tools known to man interspersed with swearing at his young children accompanied by constant banging "choons" on their in-garden sound system and the intervening neighbour's been smoking foul-smelling skunk which is also nice. Oh I forgot their yapping dog.

I've been working full time all week and was very much looking forward to some R&R in the garden today.

I can't tell you how much I hate these people.

Lidon · 05/04/2020 17:39

When you're at home all week, it being Sunday, kind of losses its relevance.

Lidon · 05/04/2020 17:39

Loses*

mumto2teenagers · 05/04/2020 17:44

I think YABU depending on how loud the music is, in the current situation more noise is to be expected because pretty much anyone who has a garden will be in it today.

Normally in the summer when we sit on our garden it’s much quieter than today, probably because on a normal Sunday in the summer some of the neighbours are at work and some are out.

jenganinja · 05/04/2020 17:44

At this time when nobody can go out, I think it's really unsociable to play music in the garden, unless you have a massive garden, but not in tiny gardens and terraces where the neighbours have to suffer it

Circe32 · 05/04/2020 17:49

May be they're working during the week, albeit from home and need to do their DIY at the weekend? If you have your health and enough supplies to keep you going in the lockdown, get some perspective!

locomoco19 · 05/04/2020 17:52

DIY is fine and acceptable, I would hate for someone to say to me otherwise. Loud music however is anti social.

Igotthemheavyboobs · 05/04/2020 17:52

Sorry. But you could have just told me instead of embarrassing me on Facebook

Fair point really, but then i hate fb in general and using it to shame someone without even speaking with them first is really shitty.

Bakingbaking · 05/04/2020 17:53

Beats the 7 yapping dogs that surround us. We live in a circle of houses. We are the only ones without a dog. We try to be quiet. We dont use the garden much but today we have been in it all day. We played a little music as the kids wanted to do a show. Played in a phone at mid level. We were told to be quiet whilst their kids and dogs were causing a riot. Told them when they are quiet we will be quiet. We don't complain when all the neighbours dogs start yapping at each other.

StCharlotte · 05/04/2020 17:53

When you're at home all week, it being Sunday, kind of loses it's relevance

So make your Sunday noise on a Tuesday, so that those for whom the weekend still matters can enjoy some peace and quiet Smile
