Button?
What's it made from? It is metal or stone?

Birthdayhat · 05/04/2020 13:51

Is it hard like a rock or soft?

Mulanlin · 05/04/2020 13:52

Was it buried?

LaMarschallin · 05/04/2020 13:53

Shell or sea urchin outer case?
Are you near the sea?

TimeAintNothing · 05/04/2020 13:53

Sea urchin shell

BeenHereForAges · 05/04/2020 13:53

Looks like a weird fungus.

Somebody’s sourdough bread that didn’t quite work?

bonnieclydesdale · 05/04/2020 13:54

I thought it was a sea urchin too.

It was buried. It's hard like rock, definitely not a fungus!

gamerchick · 05/04/2020 13:55

Dropped by a bird?

ferretface · 05/04/2020 13:56

Nowhere near the sea! It is solid - not hollow, would a sea urchin shell be solid?

udnertheradar · 05/04/2020 13:56

It's a fossilised sea urchin. Sometimes kept for good luck. Google Fairy Loaves!

Snorkelface · 05/04/2020 13:56

Just tried a google image search on it. Google has confirmed it's most definitely a loaf of sourdough!

I really want to know what it actually is - I love found objects.

I thought it was a fancy jacket potato until I saw the second photo showing the size 😳

Geepipe · 05/04/2020 13:57

If you have twitter you could tweet museums and see if they know the answer? How fascinating.

ferretface · 05/04/2020 13:58

Wow I think it is a fossilised sea urchin or fairy loaf!! @udnertheradar I think you've successfully IDed it!

DollyPomPoms · 05/04/2020 13:58

It’s a fossilised sea urchin. When I was a kid we dug one up on my
Dad’s allotment. My brother still has it on his mantlepiece.
