I've wondered this for a while but am too shy to ask my friends IRL in case they get the wrong idea.

Our dealer is still merrily going about on his bike be his daily excersise. I also saw another dealer today as i was picking up medication at the vet just hanging about, not that I am a customer just they are not that well hidden around here Hmm

Whathewhatnow · 03/04/2020 19:28

By whole area I mean neighbourhood, not my immediate living environment. Just to clarify ...!

yelyah22 · 03/04/2020 19:29

I actually asked someone I know who's a drug dealer this recently and it's been terrible for business. But he deals party drugs which are social, so I imagine weed dealers might be doing alright out of it?

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 03/04/2020 19:29

Delivering

And giving out samples of other drugs as a taster 🙄

TheArchSorcererofContwaraburg · 03/04/2020 19:30

Weed is easy to produce so there's probably not going to be a supply interruption there. YY, our neighbour goes out on his bike.

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/04/2020 19:32

Prices have doubled in my area. The police are very concerned about violence escalating and debts being 'collected' in a bad way. Also more acquisitive crime.

Keep your doors locked.

megletthesecond · 03/04/2020 19:33

Our local dealers are on bike at the moment, they can easily go under the radar on footpaths. They must be delivering as I haven't seen any customer cars pulling up.

TheJoyofBeingSingle · 03/04/2020 19:42

You do realise that drug sale and supply is a criminal enterprise?

It's a criminal chain that begins with impoverished growers in S. America and ends with sellers on the street, both of whom are in thrall to more powerful violent kingpins in control at the top of the chain and filters down.

If Mr X has bought a ton from Mr Murdering Violent Kingpin or has to sell for Mr Murdering Violent Kingpin, then he has to do that or lose his legs, future livelihood or life. The same thing filters down the chain.

These are people under criminal presssure to sell and obtain revenue for those up and up and up the chain. They aren't going to say sorry we don't deliver now because of social distancing.

It's not fucking Ocado.

Cacaca · 03/04/2020 19:43

Somehow I really don’t think a drug dealers going to be that concerned about breaking these new laws. They sell drugs, hardly upstanding members of society are they.

Teenagemaw · 03/04/2020 19:44

Dealers still dealin

HelloDulling · 03/04/2020 19:46

I wonder how rough sleeping addicts are managing. With almost no footfall in city centres they must be desperate for cash.

The coke heads and other party drug users will carry on as usual I guess, though with flights limited I assume supplies will dry up eventually.

Inthemuckheap · 03/04/2020 19:57

I am working in an office (care company) below a block of flats. Mr Drug Dealer turns up in his merc or bmw where buyer is waiting in layby. Hops into car for 20 seconds, gets out and Mr Drug Dealer drives off.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 03/04/2020 20:00

Mr Drug Dealer up the road (who seems oblivious to the fact we all know what he’s up to) had a very strong trade up until the evening of the lockdown. He still has occasional visitors but they’re probably runners. He always used to be out and about but rarely is anymore so I think the operation is big enough for him not to be leaving the house any more.

CuriousCatCatcher · 03/04/2020 20:12

I wonder if they have to queue to get a home delivery slot, and have a 4 week wait.

NervousInYorkshire · 03/04/2020 20:16

I'm glad I'm not the only one wondering and worrying about rough sleepers with substance issues.

My ex came under this bracket; he died last year, at 26 (overdose/heart attack on the streets). I'm weirdly thankful he went when he did/didn't have to go through all the coronavirus panic. I've been worrying about all the people he was friends with.

NervousInYorkshire · 03/04/2020 20:17

Sorry, that was a little off- topic.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 03/04/2020 20:17

@CuriousCatCatcher

I wonder if they have to queue to get a home delivery slot, and have a 4 week wait.

With priority slots for the elderly and special opening times for NHS workers? Grin

Gingerkittykat · 03/04/2020 20:20

There was a co-op held up in my area by an addict with a broken bottle, I wonder if the usual money sources like begging and stealing perfume from Debenhams has gone and now people will resort to desperate measures.

I don't know which drugs are homegrown and which are smuggled into the country. Supplies of the former will go on and of the latter dry up.

Whatisthisfuckery · 03/04/2020 20:21

The permacloud of pot smoke still hangs over the estate I live on.

dayswithaY · 03/04/2020 20:23

Apparently they are telling their customers to meet them in supermarket car parks and they do the old pass the hand through the car window routine there.

BritWifeinUSA · 03/04/2020 20:27

Marijuana shops are considered an essential service in this state so they are open as normal. But they make you wait outside 6 feet apart and only let one in at a time.

UnaCorda · 03/04/2020 20:41

Oh, you don't mean prescription drugs... Blush

HunterHearstHelmsley · 03/04/2020 20:48

I work for a drug and alcohol charity.

There's hardly anything on the street. Referrals are going through the roof.

andweallsingalong · 03/04/2020 20:50

I was thinking about this the other day and, maybe niaively was hopeful that lock down would give the police the opportunity to finally get the upperhand, particularly with class A's.

Hopefully other crimes are down

  • no after pub violence or drink driving
  • less motoring crimes in general
  • shop theft down as staff controlling entry due to social distancing
  • DV likely to be up, but with new DVPO powers police are more able to stop this even if the victim is too scared to report.

With less people out and about surely easier to spot and apprehend dealers

andweallsingalong · 03/04/2020 20:54

The government have committed a huge amount of money to rough sleepers because of the crisis. Most in our area are in BBs or Council accommodation.
