Escorts & prostitutes losing business

OntheAgendatoo · 03/04/2020 16:38

Posting for traffic as I have a weird sense of curiosity. Has anyone wondered what is happening to people who have made the above, er, career choice? Does this mean the market will dry up?

OP posts:
ShrimpyTheGnome · 03/04/2020 18:22

@Beetroot@ I cracked a joke. I didn't gauge the mood of the thread correctly, and it was inappropriate of me. Sorry.

Oaksandashes · 03/04/2020 18:33

@Parsley1234 Thank you. I would really love to have a genuine discussion on here one day without judgment. I'd love to talk about the perception of sex.workers , how there are many different models of how the industry works, how bringing this all above board could help keep women safer, so we can keep & share client information without fear of prosecution. I would love to tell you about the strong, intelligent, caring, amazing women I work with & who make up my community
that is a conversation for another day. For now i will keep doing what so many others are doing, keep my 4 kids safe & occupied. I hope you and your family stay safe & healthy

AnyFucker · 03/04/2020 18:38

There is a disgustingly light hearted tone to this thread, particularly the 1st few posts

What the fuck is wrong with you people ?

Parsley1234 · 03/04/2020 18:41

@Oaksandashes I wd love to hear about your life and work no judgement here stay safe and well

BeetrootRocks · 03/04/2020 18:48

Shrimpy it wasn't aimed at you Smile

BilboBercow · 03/04/2020 19:00

I'm with AF on this. Let's not make light of the most vulnerable in society having to choose between destitution or putting themselves even more at risk

BeetrootRocks · 03/04/2020 19:03

The men still paying for sex at the mo are going to be the really horrible ones as well

And no doubt haggling as the custom has dropped

The more I think about it, the worse it is

Does anyone know any orgs helping these women?

Dylaninthemovies1 · 03/04/2020 19:08

@Oaksandashes could you possibly do an “ask me anything”. Maybe NC if you need to. I’d be really interested xx

Dylaninthemovies1 · 03/04/2020 19:09

Sorry, just realised how intrusive and rude that was Oaks. Apologies

Oaksandashes · 03/04/2020 19:15

@Dylaninthemovies1 I was thinking of doing that but to be honest I've seen the way they go. It starts of with good intentions & then descends into snarky comments. But you know what I've been at home with my 4 kids for almost 3 wks & I'm a little sitr crazy so maybe i will. I'm pretty thick skinned, you need to be in my profession

Lifeisgenerallyfun · 03/04/2020 19:16

I’m guessing those who were at the riskier end of the profession, ie street workers with pimps will be more at risk as they will be driven further underground and have to be dealing with an additional threat.

Those who operate as legitimate businesses paying tax will, I guess be in the same position as other self employed people.

@Oaksandashes thank you for posting an interesting insight, I agree it would be lovely to have a discussion about the realities of the sex professions without judgement, I think people often impose their own perceptions on an entire group of people without bothering to investigate fully and unbiased information about the whole of the sex trade is hard to access. It is usually split into either some sort of cartoon parody or concentrated on the sex trafficking/feeding drug addict side. I’m guessing there are a large number of people who fall into neither and have made a choice to follow that path. I hope you and your family keep safe.

TwinsTrollsAndHunz · 03/04/2020 21:42

@AnyFucker, there are quite a few people on this thread who are absolutely NOT lighthearted on the topic. It’s probably 50/50.

ViciousJackdaw · 03/04/2020 22:05

It's good the women get a break from servicing 'punters' - they can practice some self-love and care for once

Hmm, I'm pretty sure that some of these non-earning sex workers won't be experiencing any self-love or care at all. My local council has been surprisingly proactive though, a couple of weeks before lockdown, they had a big multi-agency push on methadone programmes in anticipation of the issues we'll see.

BeetrootRocks · 03/04/2020 22:10

I know, that comment was bonkers tbh

lmcneil003 · 04/04/2020 08:59

freshchampagne never said that ALL prostitutes were addicts.
Not sure why people don't read what others have written...

VegetableMunge · 04/04/2020 09:11

@freshchampagne I know several sex workers and none of them are drug addicts. One does rake in a measly 500k a year, though.

Bet the 500k earner isn't a street prostitute though?

exponential · 04/04/2020 11:35

@freshchampagne you claim Statistically, very few are not (drug addicts) & Overwhelming, women turn to prostitution to feed a drug habit & They are drug addicts. That isn’t a judgement. It’s a statement of fact

You are wrong-you should check before you spout garbage. It is true that a high proportion of street prostitutes are addicted to drugs and prostitute to support their habit but street prostitutes are the minority of prostitutes-the majority work indoors. And few of these are drug users. See here and here as well as here

So try to be led by the facts rather than prejudice and ignornace-just for once

BeetrootRocks · 04/04/2020 11:41

The point is, for some reason, to encourage women not to care about women in the most terrible circs, and talk about something else instead.

It's a dick move tbh.

Yay all prostitutes are aok and fine. Talk about something else. Ignore the ones who aren't, if you want to donate to charity etc choose something else.

RandomLondoner · 04/04/2020 11:44

So try to be led by the facts rather than prejudice and ignornace-just for once

Without going back to check, I'm fairly sure sure she was only commenting on street prostitutes, and therefore most of the people outraged by her remarks aren't responding to what she actually said.

Santaclauswhosthat · 04/04/2020 14:17

@exponential your own links show there isn't always a clear distinction between indoor and outdoor prostitutes, with lots of women drifting between the two categories plus again as your links show even the women working indoors use illegal narcotics although mostly benzos and weed rather than the expensive ones.

I don't think it's helpful to try and make out that there's loads of safe happy non using prostitutes willingly choosing to do what they do in brothels while the only women having a hard time are street prostitutes.

wholelottahistory · 04/04/2020 14:24

SWARM and SWAI are hardship funds that can help sex workers.

Lynda07 · 04/04/2020 14:27

There will be some very highly paid escorts prepared to entertain the occasional visitor for a large fee. However I imagine business is generally low at the moment.

I suppose they could wear wet suits ......

Crackerofdoom · 04/04/2020 14:30

@Oaksandashes
If you were willing to do an AMA, I would be both interested and respectful.

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 04/04/2020 14:34

The addicts are really struggling round here, I'm guessing there's been supply issues..........it's like the walking dead.

I just hope the scummy dealers don't start cutting it up with even more noxious substances and we see a huge surge of deaths in the coming months.

Lucked · 04/04/2020 14:40

Yes I wondered about the supply of drugs with hardly any flights and ferries operating.
