To think the talk of so many NHS clappers is mostly down and out lies?

I missed it last time but gave it the benefit of the doubt. Until Tonight. I listened closely outside at 8 and did not hear a single clap in my area. Also, on Channel 4 news it was showing people clapping and it was literally only a few people clapping, very unenthusiastically and slowly and even sarcastically, I hasten to add. I’m not saying it’s not a “thing” but to claim it’s all “up and down the country” no it’s not, loads of people don’t give a damn. I wonder at all the stories shared by MNers about entire streets coming out to clap and wonder where they live where this happens as everyone that replies seem to agree

We had bagpipes

sayanara · 02/04/2020 21:45

Everyone on my street was out.

Figgygal · 02/04/2020 21:46

I had a reminder on my phone looked out the window and could see my neighbour out there so grabbed my 8 yo whilst he was brushing his teeth, opened his bedroom window and blinds and did it from there

Didn’t see it hear evidence of anyone else though and we are opposite a row of pensioner flats and no one was apparent there either

KenAdams · 02/04/2020 21:48

Pots, pans, drums and even one set of bagpipes here!

Starlight456 · 02/04/2020 21:49

Lots out on our street...

Tbh also nice to see and wave at our neighbours too, music playing...

TwistinMyMelon · 02/04/2020 21:51

Lots on my street.

DENMAN03 · 02/04/2020 21:51

Most of the street out clapping to tonight. We are a Victorian terrace street so narrow and small front gardens. We are a close knit community.

TwistinMyMelon · 02/04/2020 21:52

I work for the nhs so was grateful. However was just nice to see people and feel a sense of solidarity whatever the sentiment...

Maryann1975 · 02/04/2020 21:52

14 houses on my bit of the road, 1 of those houses, both work for the nhs. They are alternating shifts, one has the dc, one is at work. Then swap for the night shift. I have no idea when they sleep as the dc haven’t been going to school? 12 out of the 13 other houses were all out at 8pm clapping, the 13th, is a really old lady who doesn’t ever come out and she was stood in her window and waved to us. The nurse appeared at her bedroom window and waved to us all, then her and the dc came outside and we all had a bit of a chat from our drive ways. There was definitely other people in the wider area clapping and generally making a noise (saucepan lids that kind of thing), but we are in the kind of place that I would expect the majority to come out and join in with this kind of thing. Mixed Ages though, so that doesn’t make a difference, young couple with new baby, few families, few older couples whose children have left home, few retired couples and a couple of widows.

I live on a "council estate" and the majority of the estate were stood by their front doors clapping and cheering. Nice atmosphere, really and no one videoing for social media, everyone just doing it for what it was; to show appreciation to all the key workers out there.

EverythingChanges321 · 02/04/2020 21:53

They still do it nightly in London where my DS and DIL live.
We were FaceTiming them yesterday (to celebrate a birthday) and son took the iPad outside at 8pm and there was lots of clapping to be heard.
I felt quite emotional because when DIL stepped out onto her balcony, there was a huge cheer and noise.
She’s a medic in a London hospital heavily involved in treated Covid-10 patients and her near neighbours know that.
When she came back into the room to chat, you could see she was quite emotional too.

gnushoes · 02/04/2020 21:54

Live in a road and area of detached houses. Expected to hear nothing but it was really loud for some distance round. Extraordinary.

justtakeatowel · 02/04/2020 21:55

More on my road tonight!

corythatwas · 02/04/2020 21:56

Lots on my street and you could hear the ships joining in from the docks, like they do at New Year.

Bananaman123 · 02/04/2020 21:56

Scotland, people clapping and wooping and some bloody fireworks went off too (not happy about that though, my poor dog)

BMW6 · 02/04/2020 21:58

Here in Southampton clapping, fireworks (only two rockets) and best of all ships sounding their horns

TaighNamGastaOrt · 02/04/2020 21:58

north scotland here-a few folk clapping, some playing bagpipes and someone with a bell.
I didn't do it as I find it a bit virtue-signalling. but I get why folk do it.

FriedasCarLoad · 02/04/2020 21:58

Pretty much every house on the estate here. Very loud. South-east England.

Friends in many parts of the country have commented on how loud it was in their area.

NeedToKnow101 · 02/04/2020 21:59

We clapped in my north London street and could hear loads of people around clapping.

Theflushedzebra · 02/04/2020 21:59

There were a lot of us out on our road tonight - more than last week. We're in a village, and a lot of us are already good friends, and we have a (very distant) chat afterwards. It's a really nice show of solidarity & gratitude here.

AHintOfStyle · 02/04/2020 22:00

It's really not over-exaggerated. We had a bagpiper and everything.

Fespital · 02/04/2020 22:00

Every house on my street that I could see did it. And many roads in my village

DeeCeeCherry · 02/04/2020 22:01

Lots on my road and they were banging pans too

fikel · 02/04/2020 22:01

Fireworks and clapping

wafflyversatile · 02/04/2020 22:01

london zone 2 . Plenty of people clapping here.
