To think the talk of so many NHS clappers is mostly down and out lies?

I missed it last time but gave it the benefit of the doubt. Until Tonight. I listened closely outside at 8 and did not hear a single clap in my area. Also, on Channel 4 news it was showing people clapping and it was literally only a few people clapping, very unenthusiastically and slowly and even sarcastically, I hasten to add. I’m not saying it’s not a “thing” but to claim it’s all “up and down the country” no it’s not, loads of people don’t give a damn. I wonder at all the stories shared by MNers about entire streets coming out to clap and wonder where they live where this happens as everyone that replies seem to agree

I live in a very small village. I missed it last week but was out tonight. I couldn’t see anyone but I could hear them. There was clapping, pot banging, an air horn and some car horns. It was a very moving experience

littlemyyy · 02/04/2020 21:25

Today my whole area did it (they also did last time)-- fireworks and everything.

CallmeAngelina · 02/04/2020 21:25

For better or worse, the working class are much better at this than slightly more refined people

Are they bollocks! Grin I am vair posh and everyone in my private road was out there tonight! Grin

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 02/04/2020 21:27

Loud enough here to remind us that it was happening at 8 - so I guess it depends on your area

Same - whole street out clapping here

QuayboardWarrior · 02/04/2020 21:28

Nothing on my street which I'm glad of. I'd be annoyed because a lot of them are ignoring lockdown and it would be hypocritical that they're risking putting a bigger strain on the NHS.

OldLace · 02/04/2020 21:30

Nothing here.
Clapping is fine but fireworks seem a bit daft tbh.
How does that 'appreciate' the NHS?

Bumpette · 02/04/2020 21:30

Even more than last week here! Plus fireworks and people banging on saucepans with wooden spoons.. We live in a village.

Nofunkingworriesmate · 02/04/2020 21:31

You sound really low and your interpretation of the news reports is quite a negative interpretation ( and definitely not what I saw on the news)
Are you ok ?

CalmerViolet · 02/04/2020 21:32

Loads out clapping on our road.

I feel genuine gratitude for the people keeping our health service going. I do want to thank them.

And I am sick of the phrase ‘virtue signalling’.

EustaciaPieface · 02/04/2020 21:33

It was quiet here too until I opened my window and there were lots of people clapping and cheering - Glasgow.

Sarahandco · 02/04/2020 21:33

Fireworks and lots of clapping here!

Ivebeentohellanditscalledikea · 02/04/2020 21:33

A lot on my street. Then one person moaning on Facebook that she was out the back of the flats clapping for half an hour and no one else bothered. When everyone pointed out everyone else was out the front she deleted the post Grin

CanICelebrate · 02/04/2020 21:33

I live in a posh nice area on a quiet leafy street where everyone usually keeps themselves to themselves. I’m one of the only people with school age dc. I was delighted to hear much clapping and cheering this evening and it was a real sense of community that we don’t normally get here.

Sunshineafterrain24 · 02/04/2020 21:34

I completely forgot tonight and feel bad for forgetting, but that doesn't mean I'm not grateful. I was just busy settling the children to sleep.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 02/04/2020 21:35

I missed it last week and as we have a very long road i wasnt sure it was happening at all

But it was loud enough for us to hear it with the telly on, friends did it last week and both of them live in cul de sacs...albeit in different towns

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 02/04/2020 21:35

My whole- very long- street was out last week. London. I forgot about it tonight tbh (and am not sure how powerful it is if we just keep on doing it every week) but didn’t hear anything and I had the front window open upstairs.

Sirzy · 02/04/2020 21:35

Of the 12 houses I could see from the front door 11 of them where out this evening. Lots of noise travelling from the surrounding area too

Armi · 02/04/2020 21:35

Rural location - edge of small village. Loads of clapping. We’ve hardly seen anyone for a few weeks, I felt tearful as it felt like we were all letting each know we are all still here, as well as acknowledging key workers.

Inappropriatefemale · 02/04/2020 21:36

I heard it at mines, not as many as last week but there was still at least 10 flats, including mines, that clapped.

Phifedean123 · 02/04/2020 21:37

Liverpool here. Everyone out, fireworks, pots and pans being banged, a couple "hell yeahs!" and "Fuck Boris" 😂

HunterHearstHelmsley · 02/04/2020 21:37

There was one family out in my street last week. None this week.

Magic2020 · 02/04/2020 21:37

All over my area of London - you could hear clapping, cheering and drumming on every street!

HermanTheWorm · 02/04/2020 21:38

Last week, two of us.
This week, most of us in eyeline of my home.

EmmiJay · 02/04/2020 21:39

I listened so hard and didnt hear a thing and not a door opened at 8pm so 🤷🏾‍♀️

anotherlittlechicken · 02/04/2020 21:40

@TheUndo

YABVU. My street (and whole village) clapped and cheered for a good 6 to 8 minutes. You could hear clapping and cheering all around... It was amazing. Smile

Then loads of people chatted for 10 to 20 minutes or so afterwards...

You are just telling yourself what you WANT to hear.

And the poll results prove it LOL Grin
