Best covid 'brags' you've heard?

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 01/04/2020 23:30

My favourite was a friend talking about a neighbour that she doesn't even like very much.He is a part time assistant to a funeral director - rushed off of his feet, so brave, so busy...

I was so irritated I checked on line - seven covid deaths n the entire bloody county, none reported in that town.
And it's a large county.

@Santaclauswhosthat Grin cheered my day right up hahaha

Monty27 · 02/04/2020 03:26

@Santaclauswhosthat that made me giggle. It lightened my mood. Thanks Grin

middleager · 02/04/2020 03:57

I've not left the house in 2 week since son, 13 had a fever and headache. Why would I knowingly spread anything by going out?

Turns out on my 1srlt day due out I now have a fever, headache and razor throat.

Guess that's another fortnight.

aLilNonnyMouse · 02/04/2020 04:37

I'm glad you lead a normal enough life that the idea of someone staying inside for weeks on end is unbelievable to you.

Unfortunately, I completely believe it. I've been stuck inside only getting to leave around once a month for the past 10 years due to disability and massive cuts to social services meaning I can't get any help.

PhilCornwall1 · 02/04/2020 05:41

Just head over to LinkedIn, the usual "motivational" posts have been replaced with "I'm still doing my day job, but when I finish I'm driving 50,000 miles in an evening as a key-worker, how amazing am I?" Urggghhh!!!

Anybody else think the term key-worker will be banned when this crap is over? It's been completely abused.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 02/04/2020 05:48

How can you not leave the house in 2 weeks? Don't you need food? Aren't your bodies seizing up?

Leontine · 02/04/2020 05:53

@thatmustbenigelwiththebrie basically all high risk people won’t have left the house for 2 weeks at this point, so over 70s, people with compromised immune systems etc.

Ricekrispie22 · 02/04/2020 05:59

Managed to get anti-bac hand gel and it has moisturising properties. My hands are just so chapped from all this washing.
DS did 3 hours of school work today. Whilst I watched a box set and did the ironing simultaneously.
Dd has had her grade 7 flute exam cancelled. Everyone feel sorry for her. She’s done so much practice.
Just cancelled our holiday to the Bahamas. Virgin wont give us a full refund, despite being on the phone for over 2 hours.
At least I now have time to paint the en suite.

Oh, and just donated to a food bank.

PhilCornwall1 · 02/04/2020 06:11

Errr, I think you'll find plenty have.

Leontine · 02/04/2020 06:12

@aLilNonnyMouse this whole thing has opened my eyes even more to just how ignorant people are in regards to people with disabilities and chronic illnesses.

I have a chronic illness that means I don’t get out much and in some ways I feel fortunate in that I feel better equipped to deal with the situation than most. That said, I rarely go more than a week without leaving the house under normal circumstances. I’m currently just over 4 weeks into self isolation and I was absolutely fine for the first 3 weeks but this is getting a bit much even for me, so I do feel a lot of sympathy for ‘normal’ people as they must be going crazy!

cornishdreams1 · 02/04/2020 06:14

The worst is those managing to declutter and paint their WHOLE house seemingly whilst keeping three bored children entertained at the same time!
Of course the children are doing a full gym workout in the garden, whilst they complete several hours of school work and learn a new language, whilst Mummy transforms the house. HOW??? How do you do that??

I was grateful that I finally managed to brush my matted hair on day three, transforming my kitchen from something moderately tidy to a war zone is the only house update that is happening for us!!

Angry Grin

Leontine · 02/04/2020 06:15

@PhilCornwall1 I know many will not have been heeding the advice, but many will have. My response was to someone who seems to find it unfathomable that a person wouldn’t leave the house for two weeks.

Toddlerteaplease · 02/04/2020 06:17

Someone who used t work with me checked in to Sainsbury's on Facebook, several weeks ago. Saying she was stocking up to prepare herself for looking after Carona patients. Err you are paediatrics, there weren't any at that stage and still aren't!

daisypond · 02/04/2020 06:22

I haven’t left the house in two weeks.

PhilCornwall1 · 02/04/2020 06:25

@Leontine I'm high risk and it is to be honest.

TreeTopTim · 02/04/2020 06:33

Someone on my FB was almost bragging that they got a letter saying to stay at home like it's a badge of honour. The best thing about this is that they don't even leave the house anyway. Spend most of their days in their bed (Half of it is illness the other half is just pure laziness).

ZebrasAreHorsesInPyjamas · 02/04/2020 06:38

Aren't your bodies seizing up?

I don't live in the UK. Where we are you aren't even allowed to go out for exercise. Essential movement only. You know you can exercise inside don't you?! Grin

Redcherries · 02/04/2020 07:02

Seriously? You think getting a letter and discussing it is like a badge of honour.

Can you for one second put yourself in the shoes of those of us being told to stay home for three months as we’d likely die? So it’s fine for everyone else to be scared, to discuss the situation and how things are for them but those of us being shielded need to shut the fuck up or we’re boasting?

That’s one of the most unkind things I’ve read.

I have to leave the house tomorrow to get vaccines that might help me survive, I haven’t left my house for over two weeks and I’m scared of the risk to me. Being in the high risk group is not fun, we don’t want to be on it, we don’t want to be special but we do need support just the same as everyone else in the country who is scared, just remember that you’re being told it’s likely to be mild for most, were being told to stay home or we’ll likely die a horrible lonely death.

I haven’t posted on Facebook but I’d imagine putting a post on is helping people make it as normal as possible.

What a mean spirited thread .

turnandfacethenamechange · 02/04/2020 07:09

LinkedIn is the absolute WORST at the moment I can't even look at it

Justsaynonow · 02/04/2020 07:12

@Leontine Me too - this is actually easier than my "normal" life with chronic illness, where I push myself to go to appointments & get things done outside of the house. DH has WFH for years. The kids are around all the time but have online lectures/exams so I don't see them much. Touch wood we'll all just be a bit bored for a few months and avoid getting sick. DD and I are avid thrift shoppers and think there will be a boom when this is all over - I know my donations are piling up in the basement.

ochreheart · 02/04/2020 07:13

I'd not be so sure this is accurate. My sister has experienced 2 people dying (a patient and a fellow nurse) in the last few days but the numbers for our region haven't changed in a week. I don't think the reporting is accurate.

SunshineCake · 02/04/2020 07:17

I hadn't left the house for 12 days, *@anotherlittlechicken until yesterday went I was sent to hospital but I wouldn't say it as a brag Hmm and if I discount the two days I managed a walk in the garden it was two weeks. What is there to brag about? I was already doing as advised and was not bothered about a walk then too poorly.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 02/04/2020 07:17
