Aibu to be angry at colleagues who don't want to work

I work in my local village shop. We have 6 members of staff including my boss. We are still open and pretty busy at the moment as we are taking orders for and doing deliverys for local people who don't want to go out.
One member of staff has decided that as the government is going to pay her 80% of her wages to stay home she isn't coming in. Another has decided he can't cope with working at the moment and isn't coming in either. Both of these have used all their holiday allowance.
Aibu to be very annoyed to hear that my boss is going to pay them both when there is no reason for them not to be in work?
I thought the government help was for people who had on effect lost their jobs as they didn't have work? Neither are self isolating, neither are ill. They are both generally lazy in work which means me and another colleague are always working harder to pick up the slack.
I myself so not want to be working at the moment but I don't feel I have a choice as we only have my wages coming in at the moment in a household of 3 adults. The restaurant my son work zero hours in has closed and the delivery company my partner worked for is closed although he's been told he will get paid his 80% as it's beyond his control that he can't go to work.
I'm so annoyed at my colleagues for thinking they can use this as an excuse to not work and get paid for it. Also annoyed at my boss for letting them. Aibu?

Your boss has got it wrong and will be paying it out of his own pocket.

That is the government's fuck up, you shouldn't be allowed to apply for it unless you are layed off by your employers or have a vulnerable household member. If you give people the option most would take the opportunity of 80% and no work.

First your boss is going to get a shock. If you like your boss, perhaps show him any of the Martin Lewis videos on furloughing.

Then your colleagues are going to get a shock.

The employer applies for it, not the employee. It's not their choice and if your boss actually allows it and applies then you have every reason to be pissed off

Yeah, that's not how the 80% things works...you have to be put on a retention plan cause your job isn't workable, you don't just get it cause you can't be bothered going to work!

If the business is still open then they won’t be furloughed, food shops are seen as essential businesses and will stay off, if they decide not to work they will only get sick pay.

You can only be furloughed if the business has had to close to to everything that’s going on.

My brother is classed as vulnerable and can’t work during this pandemic and he isn’t only receiving sick pay as the business he works for is still open.

Furlong is for employees who otherwise would be laid off/ made redundant. It's called a job retention scheme, not opt out of working scheme. They are in for a shock.

Would just say, they may have health vulnerabilities that they don’t want to discuss with work colleagues.

Thanks everyone. That's how I understood it to be. Otherwise no one would go to work and I'm very annoyed to be having to work extra at the moment to cover for them while they think they can have paid holiday.
Although the 6 of us work different shifts ect we are all part of a team to keep the shop going.
I'm torn between relief that I still have a job and being scared going to work incase I get or am spreading the virus. I have all my holiday hours saved up as was meant to be having time off a couoke of weeks ago and instead got called in to cover someone else who just doesn't want to work!

@Duchessofblandings one has no health concerns. We all know each other well as it's a small community. She used the excuse of looking after her mum but as she is not actually self isolating she shouldn't be visiting her mum anyway. She was happy enough to pop in to the shop all dolled up to collect her wages on pay day. The other does have mental health issues which I do sympathise with as I've been that way myself. However when it constantly affects me.. As in always having to cover for him and then having no one to cover for me.. My patience runs thin. He's happy to be always asking me to swop/ cover shifts for him to go off and do things but never returns the favour.. Hence I've not had a full week's holiday for the past year!

@Waveysnail my boss has brought her family in to (mostly) cover the other 2as they also had a family cafe that has had to close

There is so much information being shared here that is not quite right

'Furlough' not furlong etc

FYI employees on zero hours contracts can be furloughed. Guidance from HMRC states an the higher of average of their salary over the past 12 months or their salary from the same month last year should be used. HMRC clarified last week on a webinar that for employees with less than 12 months service sensible averages can be used.

Entire businesses do not need to close for an employee to be able to be furloughed

you have no right to be furloughed if you should be at home for family isolation reasons. Many employers are using this scheme in this way though by agreement with employees for their benefit though

Sadly that's no surprise at all, but this whole mess was always going to bring out the CFs, whether that's the corner shop guy selling his Costco-bought loo rolls at £5 a pack or the type you've got

Yes they'll get a shock when they find this doesn't work the way they think, and no doubt they'll whine about that too, but hopefully you'll be able to replace them and it'll work out for the best in the end
