To think April Fools jokes aren’t going to go well this year?

I can’t imagine big companies like google pulling their usual pranks. Or news agencies adding a fake story. I can’t see April fool jokes being a thing this year without offending someone

Depends what they are I suppose Confused
I certainly hope people will be sensitive this year.

Gingerkittykat · 01/04/2020 05:08

People need some normality and something to make them smile.

Thepigeonsarecoming · 01/04/2020 05:11

@ginger if I’m happy if you can post one which makes even one person smile

I can't see one in the Guardian. Probably best.

Unless it's the story implying that someone somewhere gives a shit about Harry and Meghan.

WriteronaMission · 01/04/2020 05:51

My bosses have asked us to refrain from writing April Fools' articles this year. I usually do one just to have some fun and had an idea this year but it won't be happening now. We're being asked to focus content on humor without fake stuff.

I get why but not sure I agree. I love trying to guess the April Fools' articles.

iVampire · 01/04/2020 06:53

I woke this morning, thinking that it was very unlikely that there would be any this year,

Hell we need a break from gloomy news, but it’s hard to create any that are funny enough in a typical year.

londonrach · 01/04/2020 07:09

I doubt there be any this year. I hope not.

BlackCatSleeping · 01/04/2020 07:17

My kids sellotaped the toilet shut and put a fake snake in my bed.

Mooserp · 01/04/2020 07:28

Something cute /funny animal related could work?

Pelleas · 01/04/2020 07:47

I guess it's because anything Corona-related would be in extremely poor taste and anything not Corona-related would stick out like a sore thumb in the current news climate. It's a shame, though, as we could have done with some harmless fun.

BlackCatSleeping That made me chuckle!

HollysBush · 01/04/2020 07:50

I just want Boris to stand outside Downing Street, hugging a load of his cabinet and say “Gottcha! You can all come out now.”
Blackcat love that!

Stompythedinosaur · 01/04/2020 08:45

I drew moustaches on my dc while they were asleep - they found it funny.

CaptainCabinets · 01/04/2020 08:48

DP and I are both key workers having a pretty shit time in all this so I pranked him this morning. He found it funny Smile

Lexilooo · 01/04/2020 12:30

Horse and Hound ran one about breeding the first winged horse. That's the only official one I have seen although a friend shared one about the government giving away free gin to help with the covid-19 crisis.

chocolateisavegetable · 01/04/2020 12:33

The ones I've seen are very low key and not likely to offend anyone. I posted that I'd gone off chocolate (no one who knows me would believe that) and my SIL posted that Boris was going to ban the sale of alcohol from midnight - this was on the family group chat, and she knew that none of us would fall for it - it just made us smile.

Butchyrestingface · 01/04/2020 12:40

I've had quite a few already.

Ashamed to say I fell for the squirrel eggs one. I was sitting thinking, "But I thought squirrels were mammals".

Pay attention in biology classes at school, children! 😳

The80sweregreat · 01/04/2020 12:41

I was looking today but nothing online.

OlaEliza · 01/04/2020 12:45

I saw one about Iceland? selling blackjack lollies, looked like black and white twisters. I'm offended they aren't real 😭

eddiemairswife · 01/04/2020 12:55

Duck-billed platypus are egg-laying mammals.

I wondered if the article in the Guardian about nightingales developing shorter wings was an April Fool joke.

Lweji · 01/04/2020 12:56

Some pranks would be in very poor taste.

But harmless jokes could give some sense of normality at a difficult time.
But, given that it's hard to get it right, in doubt, better not do it.

Spidey66 · 01/04/2020 12:58

I think now, more than ever, we need something to make us smile.

bettybattenburg · 01/04/2020 13:00

I smiled at this one:

Forgot your thermometer?
This swim cap tells how hot water is.
Using science, silicone is infused with cells from both chameleon and jellyfish.
When your skin touches water - signals are sent to your brain in a process known as Primus Aprilis.

baubled · 01/04/2020 13:01

I pretended to fall down the stairs, kept it going for about ten seconds pretending I'd hurt my ankle, went down like a lead balloon 🤷🏻‍♀️

Boaby · 01/04/2020 13:07

Saw one this morning that looked like an STV news headline...Scotland becomes the first country to ban sale of alcohol due to Covid 19 outbreak. I’m not going to lie, I had a mild minute long freak out then realised what day it was 😰

bettybattenburg · 01/04/2020 13:08

Some prat on Twitter told their son isolation was over and he had to go to school then put a video of him on Twitter coming out of his room in his uniform. I suspect it was a set up though.
