Starting to get annoyed at people who don't think rules apply to them

So the rules say we can go outside for 1 form of exercise a day. Yet I see so many people saying things like "but we live in the countryside and it's quiet", or "my dog is used to 3 walks a day" etc

Then there's the newer stipulation of not driving anywhere non essential. And yet I see people saying it's OK less than 10 miles, or it's OK if you're driving somewhere remote to exercise.

Why are people unable to make such a tiny miniscule sacrifice? And why do they think the rules (designed to keep everybody safe) apply to everybody else but them?

Well, then don’t go out. Why are you making such a fuss out of it

I would like those who are saying "there is zero risk from them going out" to explain how they know there is zero risk.

If there is zero risk then why has the government told one and a half million people not to go out? Because there isn't zero risk. Even if the risk is small, there is still a risk.

Changeofname79 · 30/03/2020 11:07

I just don't see the need to try and interpret the guideline to suit particular wants rather than needs.

Someone in our area was reported to the police at the weekend for having a party Shock neighbours complained about the noise. Not sure if fines were issued.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 30/03/2020 11:09

How can there be a risk if there is no one around you?

There is more risk with your food delivery, so even if you stay home the risk won’t be zero.

Kazzyhoward · 30/03/2020 11:09

Brain dead girl opposite use came home from Uni last weekend and has already had 2 house parties with 15-20 guests each time. Just what part of social distancing don't these numpties understand????

countrygirl99 · 30/03/2020 11:10

I hope the police stop my (barstard at the best of times) neighbour. Here last weekend, back to his London home Tuesday, back here Friday. He never thinks rules apply to him in any circumstances.

BelleharePenguin09 · 30/03/2020 11:11

So Dom has it now. No wonder he was caught actually running away from Downing Street the other day. Lol

Karma.

Janus · 30/03/2020 11:12

Ah christ, this really does my head in.
STAY AT BLOODY HOME unless it is essential. Yes, that means you can go to the shops once, if you walk that’s your bloody exercise. If not then ONE walk from home, not drive to walk or exercise.
I live in the bloody country, see no one, will NOT walk twice because I think the rules do not apply to me or I have greater common sense than the police or government.
You selfish buggers that do think just because the roads are quiet 🙄 or you don’t have to touch a gate you just get a free pass to make up the rules.
FOLLOW THE RULES. It won’t be forever but will last longer if we don’t all, individually, do our bit.

I also don't see why some people are determined to do things because the law hasn't said they can't, despite the government advising against it.

So, the government has said to only go for one walk, listing for an hour per day, to not drive to somewhere to exercise and to only go out shopping infrequently and for essentials.

Now, the law might well have not gone that far but so what?

Two weeks ago the government asked us, and advised us, to start social distancing, to take measures to stop this virus spreading. They didn't force us to do this, they didn't enact laws to make us do it but they said that we should do this to stop it spreading, explained who it was so important - and so many people ignored them that they had to implement laws and make the rules even stricter.

So, all of the people stating their right to go to the shops to buy a packet of crisps or a bottle of wine, or their right to drive to the beach for their fifth walk of the day "because it isn't against the law" all you are doing is ensuring that the government have no choice but to lockdown tighter, possibly following France ( where you need a permit to go out and time restrictions are in place) or Spain and Italy where you can't go out at all to exercise.

No, maybe it isn't yet against the law but the government have asked you to follow their advice. Why can't you just comply?

Janus · 30/03/2020 11:20

Hooves, I’m beginning to think we need the proper passes to leave the house, as this thread shows lots of people aren’t listening and making up their own rules.
Stay the fuck at home indeed confuddle !!!

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 30/03/2020 11:20

Who is going to check your pass if you live in the sticks?

pigsDOfly · 30/03/2020 11:21

Obviously, the problem is that when Boris Johnson made his announcement he didn't say that these rules don't apply to Mrs Jones at 19 Acacia Avenue, because she has three large dogs that need walking fifteen times a day, or Mr Smith who knows a nice quiet spot 10 miles from his house where he's been running for years and never ever meets anyone, it's fine for him to drive there.

Clearly, people like that have different needs from the rest of us and the rules shouldn't apply to them.

PurpleDaisies · 30/03/2020 11:26

I would like those who are saying "there is zero risk from them going out" to explain how they know there is zero risk.

Because last night I went out for a walk there was literally nobody around. I saw not another soul.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 30/03/2020 11:31

Janus

I agree. The funny thing is, when they bring in total lockdown and so no exercising outside of your home, all those currently going out umpteen times a day will be on here screaming "unfair" without seeing that they caused it.

Because last night I went out for a walk there was literally nobody around. I saw not another soul.

So you knew, with absolute certainty, that before you went out you would not see another soul?

You know, with certainty that within the past 3 hours no one had walked that route and breathed out droplets containing the virus?

aupresdemonarbre · 30/03/2020 11:33

I'm starting to get annoyed at those who spend hours and hours online about people who are "breaking the rules" but who have not taken the time to familiarise themselves with the law. The legislation regarding restrictions on movement and gathering is extremely brief and if you have time to browse mumsnet and denounce your neighbours you have time to read it first.

Here we go: www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/350/pdfs/uksi_20200350_en.pdf

regulations 6 and 7 in particular.

For those who still can't be bothered to read it: there is no set limit on the length or number of trips out for exercise, shopping or any other reason. So no, your neighbour going for their second dog walk of the day is not acting illegally. HTH.

Janus · 30/03/2020 11:33

No one will probably police the sticks but it might at least make you THINK about it if you have to apply for a permit. If you don’t carry one I hope you get fined, I truly do.
It doesn’t matter if we THINK we can’t pass it because we’re in the fresh air. It’s just the bloody rules. Why should we that live in the country (myself here too) have the luxury of 10 walks a day when those in the city don’t. It’s not fair, it’s selfish, it’s self centred.

PurpleDaisies · 30/03/2020 11:34

Where I live is extremely rural. There really is no risk of someone walking within 2m of you, if you even see anyone at all.

You know, with certainty that within the past 3 hours no one had walked that route and breathed out droplets containing the virus?

This is not the standard to which anyone is expected to adhere.

PurpleDaisies · 30/03/2020 11:36

Why should we that live in the country (myself here too) have the luxury of 10 walks a day when those in the city don’t. It’s not fair, it’s selfish, it’s self centred.

How would anyone even know? You’d have to have the emotional intelligence of a door stop to be sending that sort of information to friends in the city.

Unfortunately, nothing is fair at the moment. Some people are stuck in tiny flats while others have big houses with massive gardens.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 30/03/2020 11:36

You know, with certainty that within the past 3 hours no one had walked that route and breathed out droplets containing the virus?

Are those the government rules? You are only allowed to walk a route if no one has walked and breathed there for the last three hours?

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 30/03/2020 11:36

aupresdemonarbre

I know what the law says. I also know what the government are asking us to do, without making it law. Just as they asked us a few weeks ago, to follow guidance in order to stop it spreading and without having to make it law. Except hoards of people decided that they wouldn't follow advice because they didn't have to. Over the next two weeks we will see the effects of that. How many healthcare workers are going to die because people followed the law and not the advice?

Wheresthebeach · 30/03/2020 11:37

I completely understand where you are coming from OP. The rules don’t apply to me because....this is why lockdown will have to be extended. People can always come up with reasons why the rules don’t apply to them.

Janus · 30/03/2020 11:39

NHS advice, one form of exercise a day, first page I clicked in on advice for dealing with Covid-19. Search for the small print if you want but really, seeing as you may need the nhs, why not follow those rules?
I don’t care if you can’t be seen, just don’t do it.

Starting to get annoyed at people who don't think rules apply to them
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 30/03/2020 11:40

If someone says they won’t meet another spill when they go out then that’s not a horde by any standard.

No such thing as a horde of one.

If however TFL insist on smushing us like sardines when we go to work, then that’s a different story.

Which one are you more upset about, OP?

Janus · 30/03/2020 11:42

Putpledaisies it doesn’t matter if no one else knows, you know! Just follow the rules. Aagggghhhh!!
