Is it jealousy? The daily teacher bashing threads on here are ridiculous.

Do you blame us for schools closing?

But haud do you goad your teacher friends by telling them how easy they have it with their short hours, long holidays and job security? Try that and see what they say.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 30/03/2020 18:31

CuckooCuckooClock

No as its never been an issue as I have friends who know that other professionals careers are equally if not worse, yet understand situation.

I seen plently on MN'etter teachers abuse an OP as apparently they dont understand how hard and difficult their job is and they should try itHmm... while berating a parent who should get their "brat" under control.... even when the teacher is at fault (bullying a child verbally in front of their peers, was the last one I seen)

As I said its just my opinion on these type of threads.

managedmis · 30/03/2020 18:36

They just seem to want so much acknowledgement for what they do. It kinda grates after a while

ThrowingGoodAfterBad · 30/03/2020 18:45

and constantly complaining how hard done by they are.

Oh yes. Constant. They are well paid on the whole, compared to the average but good grief do they enjoy whining! Typically to much-lower-paid TAs about how hard they have it and how much more they should be paid, constantly. It must be a requirement of the job, that they know everything about pay levels in higher paid jobs and nothing at all about those in the lower paid jobs, even those they work with.

Teachers - what's median pay in the UK, £29 k? If you are on more than that, and most of you are, stop the complaining already.

Bulb1976 · 30/03/2020 18:48

I wish there was a hide idiots button on here.

Bluewavescrashing · 30/03/2020 19:09

There's a national shortage of teachers. If it's so easy and we'll paid, why not sign up?

FrippEnos · 30/03/2020 20:28

CountFosco

But you often hear teachers saying which is bullshit.

Whats Bullshit is that people claim to have heard teachers say this.

FrippEnos · 30/03/2020 20:29

ThrowingGoodAfterBad

good grief do they enjoy whining!

Almost as much as people enjoy whining and making shit up about teachers.

LolaSmiles · 30/03/2020 20:54

And isn't it funny how all the school are still open to provide childcare for the key workers in the current crisis, it's almost like providing childcare so parents can work is a crucial part of what schools do.
Isn't it funny how in a time of national crisis when a pandemic is sweeping the country schools stop running as usual and adapt in order to play their part?
Isn't it funny how they're not doing everything as normal with some opening longer days and through the holidays?
Isn't it funny how staff are preparing virtual and distance learning materials to educate those who are not on site?
It's almost like they're not childcare providers.

The fact that being in school is beneficial to working parents is quite different to 'providing childcare so parents can work is a crucial part of what schools do'. We don't exist so parents can work. We exist to educate children.

Pomegranatepompom · 30/03/2020 21:41

My SIL is most unhappy about her exposure to key worker children, she's working every other week, so getting more time off than usual. I feel really sad that's her attitude rather than wanting to help during this awful time.

Both DH and I are key workers, the school isn/t providing wraparound care, it makes working very difficult.

Bulb1976 · 30/03/2020 22:05

Of course you would know the work schedule of your sil Hmm

Once this is all over everyone, including key workers will have to organise their own childcare for the holidays. You know, parenting.

OP posts:
Pomegranatepompom · 30/03/2020 22:17

Well yes I do know, because she told me.

Of course we normally organise our own childcare, it's very difficult at the moment as I am covering all the sickness @ work. My point is we normally have wraparound dare, now we don't when we need it more than ever (NHS).

Pomegranatepompom · 30/03/2020 22:21

Your post makes me feel tearful, of course I do normally parenting, my hours are as needed in the NHS at the moment. So really hard to plan childcare when I don't have my normal hours provided.
But thanks for making me feel really shit, when I'm already stressed and terrified looking after very vulnerable & sick people.

Bulb1976 · 30/03/2020 22:21

I think the gov should be doing more for nhs workers. Providing childminders etc. Schools aren’t working to full capacity as we are also covering sickness and want to protect vulnerable staff.

Bulb1976 · 30/03/2020 22:23

If my comment makes you tearful then you need a thicker skin. I’ve no time for self pity or dramatics. You know your post was goady so don’t complain because I responded.

OP posts:
Pomegranatepompom · 30/03/2020 22:25

How is explaining my position goady.

I think your post shows you have no empathy for others.

Bulb1976 · 30/03/2020 22:27

You know what you wrote. I’m going to leave it there.

OP posts:
Pomegranatepompom · 30/03/2020 22:28

Well what I have written is very clear, you not liking it, does not make it goady.

fedup21 · 30/03/2020 22:33

Schools around here are doing a great job at opening for key workers. Many are offering breakfast/after school club for them when they don’t normally.

Childminders seem to be more of an issue on here over the last week. I just read a bbc news article saying many had just closed so key workers had nowhere to send their pre schoolers.

Bbang · 30/03/2020 23:06

Her post wasn’t goady in the slightest.

I and I’m sure everyone else on here appreciates you and the work everyone in the NHS is doing @Pomegranatepompom I’m glad we have you, it’s frightening right now and you must be feeling it also. Thank you.

JuliaDomna · 30/03/2020 23:18

I have a genuine admiration for teachers. I took part in an 'Industry Day' along with other professionals. We had to set a project allied to our profession and teach separate classes. While some of the students were diligent and embraced the project there were others who were continually disruptive and uncooperative. I was totally exhausted at the end of the day! Hats off to teachers.

Bulb1976 · 30/03/2020 23:20

JuliaDomna Thanks for understanding Smile

OP posts:
Pomegranatepompom · 30/03/2020 23:24

@Bbang thank you. It is frightening. We are gladly looking after people, terrified of getting sick and leaving our teams short.
I’m probably being sensitive - time for a SM break.

Quite a few of my team have DC- it’s a massive juggle (I know not just for NHS).

Stonerosie67 · 30/03/2020 23:36

This!

Why is there so much hostility against teachers on MN?
Tunnocks34 · 30/03/2020 23:38

Because some teachers are Martyrs and overly vocal about it. Most aren’t, I’m certainly not but small minority are.

But, also I feel as a teacher, we feel we have to defend ourselves a lot which is perceived by som as complaining and woe is me. It doesn’t matter how many times we say ‘we’re not paid for the holidays, we don’t only work 9-3, yes we do have performance related pay’ etc there is always someone who will say ‘well nurses work longer shifts than you’ ‘teachers aren’t the only hard workers’ and we’re not, absolutely not. I was an accountant prior and worked similar hours with less holidays. But I never, as an accountant, had to justify why I was tired, or stressed at work. It was just accepted, not met with ‘well luckily you’ll have 2 weeks off to recover soon eh? Alright for some’

For what it’s worth, I don’t think teaching is the hardest job in the world, I couldn’t be a nurse, or a carer. I couldn’t be in a job with high pressure deadlines like my husband is either - who incidentally works longer hours and it much more stressed over all than I
