I've got at least 2 stone to lose, 2 stone 3 lbs to be exact, now that we can't go out and not getting in my long walks is it do able to lose the weight? Any tips would be highly welcome!!

OP posts:
SmileyClare · 29/03/2020 17:23

Why can't you do your long walks anymore? I hope you haven't been misinformed?
Unless you're self isolating because a family member has symptoms or is highly vunerable, I strongly recommend getting out, fresh air, sunshine and a change of surroundings are important for your mental and physical well being.

Exercise/doing something will also reduce your appetite.

It's a concern that the stress of staying at home will cause people to comfort eat, lose motivation or just eat out of boredom. Combined with a sedentary life style for several months will potentially cause unhealthy weight gain.

Well done for keeping to your plans and good luck.

I’ve lost 1 stone 9lbs since Christmas and did my 2lbs a week the last two weeks, I find i want to go out to exercise for an hour day and I’m hyper aware of my eating habits.

You’ll have to be really strict with yourself buts it’s doable, I have 1stone 6lbs to go.

Sparklingplasters · 29/03/2020 17:44

Joe Wicks workout every morning and run up and down stairs. Follow slimming world? Mumsnet seems to hate SW but I lost 2 stone on it with little effort/little gym time

Bluewavescrashing · 29/03/2020 17:46

Vigorous housework is good exercise.

goodwinter · 29/03/2020 17:47

Technically you don't need to exercise at all in order to lose weight. You just need to burn more calories than you eat.

cheeseandcrackers88 · 29/03/2020 17:47

Your diet is way more important than exercise when it comes to weight loss. I've been on slimming world for coming up a year and managed to lose nearly two stone. However I think I'll put a significant amount back on now because my diet has gone down the pan completely. No routine, comfort eating and a lack of stuff in shops is to blame.

But yeah I've gone off point - try and manage your diet rather than focusing on exercise. Exercise will help and is good for your mental health especially at this time but if you want to see results it'll happen a lot quicker through good diet.

PurpleDaisies · 29/03/2020 17:48

It’s actually helping me to not be able to go to the shop to buy “treats” every day. Portion control is easier because I’m saving extra for the next day and using it cleverly. As others have said, lots of workout stuff online. I’ve used yoga with Adriene for years. If you’ve got a garden, weeding is bloody hard work. Plus you can still go out for walks.

TinyStripe · 29/03/2020 17:58

I've lost half a stone in 2 weeks just from dancing for an hour a day with my toddler. I look like weirdo but it's worked!

Lovemusic33 · 29/03/2020 17:58

Your allowed an hours walk or half an hours run each day. I can walk 8k in a hour (I haven’t been). Do you have a bicycle? If so you can get a bike trainer so you can ride it in your living room?

Trampolining if you have one in the garden (and you pelvic floor isn’t shot).

Let’s dance on nintendo switch if you have one, I have been doing this with dd every day.

Dd and I also play swingball every day.

There are loads of keep fit videos on line and yoga.

choc71 · 29/03/2020 17:58

Hi Whitegrapeandblackberry, I reckon it is achieveable.
I've got 6 stone to lose! I'm hoping to have lost 3 by the start of September.
I'm doing Zumba via Zoom regularly and I've just downloaded the Couch to 5k app, which I'm starting tomorrow. I'm going to see if the park is quiet at 6 a.m. If not, I'll just run around my garden. I've not run anywhere since I was at school and I'm 48 now. Dreading it slightly!
I've got kettlebells and the local gym is running videos online.
I've cut out sugar and alcohol.
I'm going to use Lockdown as the Headspace that I need to get this back under control. I am so angry with myself as I was a size 10 about 3 years ago, then a horrendously stressful time at work meant that I stopped all exercise.
We've got this, OP.

dementedpixie · 29/03/2020 17:59

You are not limited to 1 hour of walking

Lovemusic33 · 29/03/2020 17:59

We also meal plan and we have a “no snack” rule, so just 3 meals a day.

crosspelican · 29/03/2020 18:01

Huge 2nd to Joe Wicks! It's all about habit-forming.

Lovemusic33 · 29/03/2020 18:01

Sorry, the one hour was a guideline that was given on the question time thing earlier. The advice was 1 hours walk or half an hour run/bike ride. Obviously you can’t walk around all day 😐

timetest · 29/03/2020 18:06

I’ve been doing a brisk 5k indoor walk I found on you tube. It takes about 45 minutes. I’m only going out once a week for essential shopping and sticking to my garden for fresh air so an indoor exercise routine is great for me.

Eckhart · 29/03/2020 18:08

Lift heavy weights. Particularly ones that exercise your upper leg and Glute muscles. They're the biggest muscles in your body. If they ache the next day (and second day), , your body is putting lots of calories into strengthening them. If you're at a calorie deficit from the food you're eating, those calories will have to come from burning body fat. You won't end up thin, you'll end up toned too.

Do a bit of research re correct techniques before you start, though. Don't dash in and get yourself a muscle strain, it's most discouraging.

BlackberryGin · 29/03/2020 18:19

Loads of good tips on here that I'll try an use too!

I keep a couple of tins at the side of my chair and use them as weights while watching tv in the evening, while also doing bum-cheek clenches (or whatever they are called).

Every little helps! Good luck OP Flowers

maddiemookins16mum · 29/03/2020 18:19

I have lost 3lb this week. I don’t feel as hungry (mildly anxious/stressed), I don’t go to the shop at lunchtime for crisps, I’m not buying crap with my shopping.

AngryPrincess · 29/03/2020 18:28

Do you like dancing? Could try that? Samba, mambo, salsa all on youtube.

HoffiCoffi13 · 29/03/2020 18:29

We’ve been self isolating for 2 weeks and I’ve lost 3lbs. Anxiety about it all has meant my appetite has dropped.
If you burn more calories than you consume you’ll lose weight.

daisypond · 29/03/2020 18:33

It’s surely easier to lose weight now. We actually don’t have quite enough to eat now. We eat one meal a day. There’s no bread or pasta or rice. No eggs. All we can easily get is fruit and veg.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 29/03/2020 18:44

I'm trying to stay busy to avoid snacking and going to dust off the exercise bike out of the garage. I have probably 3+ stone to loose but will be happy with anything to be honest.

OvertiredandConfused · 29/03/2020 18:49

I’m dieting - 6st to loose in total. I’ve lost 2.5st since Christmas. I use a wheelchair (so no exercising) and I’ve been self-isolating for 18 days. Still managing to average 2lbs a week. It’s will-power and making the effort to get healthy foods that matter most. Good luck

DurhamDurham · 29/03/2020 18:53

Your allowed an hours walk or half an hours run each day. I can walk 8k in a hour

I don't think that's true, it's exercise once a day, doesn't specify 1 hour or 30 mins.

HollowTalk · 29/03/2020 18:54

@overtiredandconfused, would something like help?
