Ireland and now Northern Ireland have stated that people should only leave house for essential work and food for next two weeks. IABU to think rest UK should be following?
YANBU uk should lock down
YABU uk should NOT lock down

@EmeraldShamrock it probably isn't only lockdown for a very short time. The absolute minimum is likely to be 3 months and if they can't release it until there is a vaccine, it could be much much longer.

EmeraldShamrock · 29/03/2020 09:33

@SorrelBlackbeak I know, I'm doing lockdown from the 13th of March it is painfully frustrating already.
If it will help reduce the death toll, watching Italy Spain France and other we have no choice.

Road blocks out of my city to the local coastal town this morning!! And lots of public woodlands have been sectioned off!!Thank god

Abraid2 · 29/03/2020 10:27

I admire Ireland, they closed schools pubs and all that way before UK. And people are observant of the so called lockdown now.

Slow to stop horse-racing, though! It was going for days after it ended in the UK.

OlaEliza · 29/03/2020 10:27

Do it too soon and it will cause people to crack

The rest of Europe is coping ok. Spain has been in complete lockdown for 2 weeks now.

“There is a lot of ignorance, stereotyping and judgment towards the UK on this thread. Racism generally does tend to increase when people are scared“
Probably in response to my earlier comment about Ireland having more respect for older people. I’m British and live in England, my comments are not based on racism but on spending time in both countries.

Remingtonsteeleswife · 29/03/2020 15:47

That's rich. Considering the usual outright racism and ignorance on this forum towards the irish.
Ye have made a right donkeys bollox of things in the uk.
Good luck. Ye will need it.

And it seems Ireland is making progress!! I really hope this continues 👍🇮🇪

Unfortunately I don't have confidence that Ireland is making progressive changes. ICU beds are nearly at capicity, clustered found in nursing homes, not only elderly my friend's Dsis is 30 she lives fulltime in a nursing home. Our first case was discovered a few weeks after the UK.
I think everyone is doing really well locking down, I fear it is to late.

Itsjustme1986 · 30/03/2020 01:45

I fear it is too late for UK, I cannot stand Leo V and his usual populist BS but I begrudgingly have to admit He is handling this brilliantly as are most Irish people, there is a great community response, no panic buying. I wouldn't rate UK success on the number of cases since they are now not testing people who are hospitalized (or royal/government 🙄) I worry for what lies ahead for both countries and indeed globally, it's just so unknown, I cry watching what Italy and Spain are going through. I can only hope UK and Ireland will be spared that kind of devastation.

Itsjustme1986 · 30/03/2020 01:46

*now only testing people who are hospitalized

Alsohuman · 30/03/2020 01:59

The large majority of British people do respect the elderly

You haven’t been on MN much lately, have you?
