Rest uk should follow NI and Irish Republic on total lockdown

Waveysnail · 28/03/2020 22:37

Ireland and now Northern Ireland have stated that people should only leave house for essential work and food for next two weeks. IABU to think rest UK should be following?
YANBU uk should lock down
YABU uk should NOT lock down

@DameHannahRelf that's just in the South. In the North we're fine to carry on as the rest of the UK is. Think some people are confused because PSNI just got powers to enforce the lockdown (the same powers GB got earlier this week) and our politicians made a lot of speeches about it.

WhatTiggersDoBest · 28/03/2020 23:50

In the North we're fine to carry on as the rest of the UK is
Just to clarify, I don't think we should be "carrying on" like the eejits in England flaunting the rules but we can still exercise although within 2km of your home seems fairly sensible to me given the amount of open space found across most of Ulster.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 28/03/2020 23:52

And people still going on about the flu Hmm we are going to be totally screwed in a couple of weeks time

Iwannabeadored20 · 28/03/2020 23:54

@Remingtonsteeleswife

I'd love to hear you tell a story, Remington (you are showing your age there!)

OchonAgusOchonO · 28/03/2020 23:54

Ireland isn’t part of the Uk so the question isn’t if ‘the rest of the Uk’ should follow but ‘should the Uk follow’.

^ This

Title is very irritating.

Remingtonsteeleswife · 28/03/2020 23:55

What does that mean exactly.

MintyMabel · 29/03/2020 00:02

Housing associations are still insisting on gas safety checks being done. The engineer will have been to several houses

Pah! Gas safety checks? Don’t need to be having any of them now, do we. It’s not like gas boilers are really dangerous if they go wrong.

(Our boiler was less than 3 years old and was condemned in a routine gas safety check, turns out it could have exploded at any moment)

OhMargo · 29/03/2020 00:02

Johnson is sitting at home in his dressing gown, snifter in hand, looking at the telly and snorting, thanking whatever deity that he is out of action for a few weeks now. The fecker. But typical IMV.

I hope he is free of CV, but honestly have my doubts that he has it.

Sorry now, just going on his past lies and history.

Iwannabeadored20 · 29/03/2020 00:03

@Remingtonsteeleswife

It's a compliment

MintyMabel · 29/03/2020 00:04

flaunting the rules

I’m sure this is a typo, it did make me giggle. All them people flaunting those rules they have.....

Iwannabeadored20 · 29/03/2020 00:04

You have a great turn of phrase. I can imagine listening to you as you tell a story well.

Potkettlexx · 29/03/2020 00:08

I’m not sure what more they could do? We’re already not allowed to go out except for food, work (even then it has to be essential ), now been told exercise one a day close to home, queues to get in to shops and guide lines on where to stand etc, police have power to disperse groups and fines for non essential journeys.

What more could they do?

NeedANewJob19 · 29/03/2020 00:08

In Ireland can you still shop online? And is there a list of essential jobs? I’m thinking if you own a shop but have a website your shop might be closed but you still need staff to pack and ship your website orders?

Potkettlexx · 29/03/2020 00:11

I don’t thunk they can do anything else but the way people are flaunting the rules, I expect it will be like this for months and months.

Just on another thread where a woman was saying should she pick up her 24 year old daughter from London?! I mean if that’s what we’re up against, we’re fucked and we will be like this until Christmas

NeedANewJob19 · 29/03/2020 00:11

@Potkettlexx
There are plenty of non-essential workers still having to go to work because their employers insist upon it.
The rule was essential jobs or where you could not work from home.

NeedANewJob19 · 29/03/2020 00:14

How many online retailers are still delivering? Loads. Someone has to work in the warehouses to pick, pack and ship those orders. Then there needs to be a courier to deliver it.
Clothes shops, furniture, baby shops, amazon... are they all essential purchases right now?

AlpineSnow · 29/03/2020 00:14

Interesting that Sweden are taking a far more relaxed approach than the UK
Schools, kindergartens, bars, restaurants, ski resorts, sports clubs, hairdressers: all remain open, weeks after everything closed down in next door Denmark and Norway
If a parent starts showing symptoms, they’re allowed to continue to send their children to school

nowaitaminute · 29/03/2020 00:17

@NeedANewJob19 yes there is a list of essential jobs!

www.gov.ie/en/publication/dfeb8f-list-of-essential-service-providers-under-new-public-health-guidelin/

And yes I know of Irish owned family businesses that you can shop online with, they have reduced the amount of shipping they can do as of yesterday though afaik

Potkettlexx · 29/03/2020 00:18

@NeedANewJob19

I thought all business’s had to close unless it’s essential?

NeedANewJob19 · 29/03/2020 00:19

@nowaitaminute thank you that’s really interesting

NeedANewJob19 · 29/03/2020 00:22

@Potkettlexx do you mean in the UK or Ireland?
I thought we were talking UK. They haven’t closed all businesses, just certain shops, pubs cafes etc. Online retail is still allowed so you have staff working there and also many other types of businesses are allowed to remain open.

PositiveVibez · 29/03/2020 00:28

Well Johnson has gone in to his bunker and couldn't be arsed with this anymore. Hope he gets better, but I do wonder if he was ill in the first place. He is such a liar

He doesn't fucking have it ffs. He wants to keep his pregnant mistress safe.

People can exercise in their home now with all the resources on YouTube.

I'm a hypocrite though because I still need to go out to walk the dog.

Kitten124 · 29/03/2020 00:31

The difference is that Irish people are taking it far more seriously, and older people are treated with more respect than in the UK. I heard that trainee police have graduated early and dropping food deliveries off to the elderly!

OhMargo · 29/03/2020 00:36

Kitten,

You are correct, the police are delivering food and essentials to those who cannot do it themselves, or where neighbours are in the same boat.

It is really remarkable. Hats off.

Potkettlexx · 29/03/2020 00:37

@NeedANewJob19

Well in that case I thunk they should close them down too. It’s a no brainer. Clothes aren’t essential items so seems pointless keeping them open.

I’ve heard next is closed. That’s responsible of them and the rest should follow suit or be ordered to close
