I would have my latex gloves on to handle the bag (curry) then spoon onto our plates ... is this safe ???

I’m having one - supports local business and makes the food we have in last longer. There is of course a small risk but there is with getting anything into the house. Up to you if you’re comfortable with the risk.

Sleepyquest · 28/03/2020 16:48

We did last week. The driver dropped it on the doorstep, then using gloves we brought it in. We decanted it all into bowls. Then we put the food we wanted on our plates and blasted it in the microwave, then washed our hands and ate.

Sounds absolutely insane but to me it felt like we were being safe 😃

OldEvilOwl · 28/03/2020 16:48

Yes it's probably safe, but do you really need one? What about the people that are having to work at these places? They are risking their health to stay in work. Their employers won't close if people are still spending money there. Yes I am one of them, and wish people would just think

Giffgaff99 · 28/03/2020 16:49

That's what I think too. I'll pay by card too

Dominoes have announced they are looking after their staff by distancing and reducing contact between staff and no contact with customers

It's fine to do. I've been ordering every night as I can't cook due to disability and all 3 of my carers are vunerable and sheilding so can't come help me.

If you order it online they are doing contactless delivery where they leave the food by the door and ring the bell. Wipe down the door and handles, dish up the food and then wash your hands before eating.

DCIRozHuntley · 28/03/2020 16:52

@OldEvilOwl I don't think it's as clear cut as that. We had a takeaway this week. We chose a local, independent, family run Chinese restaurant (all the people working there live together anyway) and had a contactless delivery. We ordered a good amount of food to make it worth their while delivering. We ate all of it so no wastage. We ordered directly so no cut going to Just Eat / Deliveroo etc.

Maybe I'm just trying to justify it to myself but we did do it mindfully.

Purpleartichoke · 28/03/2020 16:53

I live in a different area and we are being encouraged to buy takeaways. We are in an area where eating out is the norm, not a treat, so all of us buying more groceries is exacerbating the supply problems. Meanwhile, there are restaurants sitting with tons of food. Many are shrinking or altering menus to be more efficient and they are handing off food without direct contact whenever possible.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 28/03/2020 16:57

@DCIRozHuntley can you use microwave? Wouldn't something like this be better and cheaper?

Oopps! Wrong tag! Sorry @DCIRozHuntley it was meant for @aLilNonnyMouse

SlipSlidin · 28/03/2020 17:00

@OldEvilOwl all the takeaways we use are family run businesses and are desperate to keep trading. What do I need to “think” about when they’ve contacted us personally to ask for our continued support?

Pulppixies · 28/03/2020 17:02

I had one last night.

aLilNonnyMouse · 28/03/2020 17:03

I can't @omg

I can only stand up for around 60 seconds and need a 30 min rest afterwards before I can do it again. It's just enough to get to the door and grab food before I collapse back on the sofa. By the time I get something out the freezer (bending is really hard) and into the microwave I have to go rest. By the time I can get up again the food is stone cold.

Normally someone comes round each night and cooks a meal but that's not an option right now so takeaways it is.

OldEvilOwl · 28/03/2020 17:03

SlipSlidin I'm just trying to give a different view on the subject that's all

stardust40 · 28/03/2020 17:05

After being in for nearly two weeks with the kids I'm having one!! Saturday night treat in this house!

Leaannb · 28/03/2020 17:08

I had pizza delivered for lunch and will have sushi/Chinese delivered for dinner. Its just me this weekend because my family went camping and deep sea fishing

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 28/03/2020 17:09

@aLilNonnyMouse hope they get someone to help you soon

maddy68 · 28/03/2020 17:09

I would also nuke it in the microwave so it'll kill any bugs that may have occurred on transit

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 28/03/2020 17:10

@Leaannb 😂😂

Just an fyi, all takeaways I know are actually really busy so it is a lots of people ordering. A loads

SlipSlidin · 28/03/2020 17:10

@Leaannb I sincerely hope you’re joking about the camping and fishing.

CoronaIsComing · 28/03/2020 17:15

We’re going to. Just Eat have lowered the commission that takeaways pay by 1/3 this month too to try to help the takeaways and they’re offering 25% off for NHS workers so we’ll be ordering from their app.

Theresnobslikeshowb · 28/03/2020 17:16

We are having one tonight.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 28/03/2020 17:20

dont see why not, if its open use it, ssupporting local food business is a must.

mynamesmrdiggety · 28/03/2020 17:20

@Leaannb very funny! I assume you're baiting us...

MrsJBaptiste · 28/03/2020 17:48

Some may be busier than usual but many are closed. We tried to get a chinese takeaway last night and out of the usual 35 in our area, there were just 14 open. Gutted we had to have pizza from the freezer 😠
