I would have my latex gloves on to handle the bag (curry) then spoon onto our plates ... is this safe ???

I have just ordered a curry but they are really busy so the wait will be twice as. Long as usual.
I am trying to eek out the food I have in the house for at least another week before I need to shop so I have ordered extra so that I can make a couple of days worth of meals with just adding a little from the store cupboard.

FuckingTuiles · 28/03/2020 18:14

We've had 3 this week, our local Indian and pub have switched to take away only, and I want them to still be in business when this is all over.

The alternative is the workers being laid off and them having to close. We're ordering and paying online, then they call us when it's on the doorstep.

Lazypuppy · 28/03/2020 18:28

Yep just ordered ours 👍🏻

Ulysses · 28/03/2020 18:36

We're having a Papa Johns. We normally go for a Dominos but their website said to try back in half an hour so not sure why that is. I'm following my own hygiene route, wearing gloves to pickup, then washing hands dishing up, wiping down plastic bottle etc.

DH was wary but I've been working from home for the past 10 days (still working now - our IT systems won't let me log on weekdays between 8am and 6pm and I've got deadlines looming), home schooling, and am looking forward to not cooking.

HavenDilemma · 28/03/2020 18:37

Yep, waiting for ours. An hour & a half wait! So it sounds like plenty of people are using them, which I'm really pleased about.
I'd hate to see them go out of business because of all this; as I'm sure many will, sadly

Daffie19 · 28/03/2020 18:40

I wanted a takeaway... But DH hates them... And says no when i suggest it...
Ill never order just for me, so I go with out.
Now he's napping, and we've got no dinner....!!!
Can u tell I'm miffed 😂

RollaCola84 · 28/03/2020 18:44

I had one last night and previous Friday, will do next weekend as well. All from local independent businesses that will not be able to survive a shutdown. Order and enjoy !

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 28/03/2020 18:49

Yep we are having one tonight to support local people whose livelihood it is.

We’re going to do our best to shop locally too rather than going to supermarkets.

Levi18 · 28/03/2020 18:54

We had one tonight, really enjoyed it, they did contact delivery, a lot of people are getting take aways.

CointreauVersial · 28/03/2020 19:37

Yes, support your local businesses!

I'm not nuking in microwave, though, as I only use takeaways who observe basic food hygiene standards.....can't see how a virus (or any other bug) is going to be lurking in a properly-cooked curry.

RollaCola84 · 28/03/2020 20:25

@TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet I use a lot of local businesses anyway but many round here have behaved far better than the big chains so I'm going to be making even more of an effort to do so when normal life resumes.

heartsonacake · 28/03/2020 20:29

Of course it’s okay, and don’t be silly, you don’t need gloves 😂😂

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 28/03/2020 20:34

I had one last week and will probably have another one next weekend from our local Indian. I didn't even think to use gloves but made sure I washed my hands before eating.

Pishposhpashy · 28/03/2020 20:37

Yes, but you will get the usual zealots on here saying that it isn't. Maybe just put it through the washing machine at 90, just to be on the safe side.

Pishposhpashy · 28/03/2020 20:37

Also, why the gloves? Just wash your hands before eating.

MrsJBaptiste · 28/03/2020 20:48

Yes, I don't get the gloves either. I take the bag from the delivery guy, wash my hands and eat.

Hilda40 · 28/03/2020 20:56

Why do people insist on calling them fecking takeaways; they're deliveries ffs. This actually caused major misunderstanding on another thread.

Pishposhpashy · 28/03/2020 21:02

I've never in my life called them deliveries because I've never in my life collected them Confused

I've never heard of them being called anything other than takeaways.

NastyOldBag · 28/03/2020 21:06

I’d call it a takeaway, I think most people do don’t they? As in ‘do you fancy a takeaway tonight?’, you wouldn’t say ‘do you fancy a delivery tonight?’

Homkaismycat · 28/03/2020 21:08

Husband wanted Indian takeaway but I refused, worried about virus.
What about if someone sneezes/ coughs over it when they packing it etc?
Is microwave really killing it ?

NastyOldBag · 28/03/2020 21:14

I wouldn’t ever want to order from somewhere if I was worried about someone coughing/ sneezing over it, virus or not

CointreauVersial · 28/03/2020 21:33

@Hilda40 round here, they're takeaways. As in, i drive to the food establishment, and take the food away.

Would be lovely if someone delivered it, but our local place doesn't offer that.

blue25 · 28/03/2020 21:34

No! If the chef sneezed in your food, you’re screwed.

AnyFucker · 28/03/2020 21:35

The decent ones round my way are all closed now

Pishposhpashy · 28/03/2020 21:38

If the chef sneezed in your food, you’re screwed.

Well patently not, no. Firstly, even if they did happen to sneeze, it doesn't mean they have coronavirus. And secondly, even if they did have coronavirus and you caught it doesn't mean you are "screwed". Confused

I live in London and all our takeaways are still open.
