I'm using up some over ripe bananas and have a spice banana loaf in t'oven. I'll post a pic when it's out of the tin. As long as it doesn't look like the dog produced it.

Anyone else got delicious looking pics of food they've made? Not normally something I'm into but I think some of us are probably cooking/baking more than usual.

I cook from scratch a lot but haven't made a cake for a while.

Go on then, show me your grub Wink

@AntsDeck - so sorry we'll miss your visit. Hopefully you can reschedule it.

I love Cinnabon too, but it's a rare indulgence. There's one in a highway rest stop we visit when we take DS to uni.

This festive biscuit is really good and when I don't have icing sugar I just blitz some normal stuff in the coffee grinder. Top with dark ckoc😋

I used Chapatti flour which wasn't completely wholemeal but they turned out fine.

Sh05 · 30/03/2020 22:31

Here's the recipe,

@AntsDeck I used a recipe from The Tasty app. It's called Homemade cinnamon rolls..they also have a video called cinnamon rolls 101 which some kind person has included metric weights for the recipe in the comments. So sorry to hear about your trip. Cinnabon was an absolute favourite for me too.

Lostmyunicorn · 30/03/2020 22:55

This may sound odd but does anyone have a banana loaf / cake recipe which doesn’t taste very banana-y. One of my dc doesn’t like banana in cake (or smoothies or milkshakes) so I’m trying to find a way to disguise it.

Longdistance · 30/03/2020 22:59

Try Mary Berry’s banana loaf. Not too banana like as my dd1 isn’t a banana lover she’ll st least eat Mary Berry’s loaf.

Had a bash at Portuguese tarts. Ugly but they didn’t last long.

If your oven is fan assisted, how much do you turn it down by? Mine seems to burn the outsides of all my baking well before it’s due to come out.

Ninkanink · 30/03/2020 23:20

10 or 20 degrees - just depends on the oven. I’d take it down by 10 degrees to begin with and see how it goes. You also sometimes need to a few minutes off the cooking time.

Here's the homemade pizza, with bacon, pepperoni, onions and red bell pepper. Or rather what remained after the kids took their first servings. With 18 yo DD and 20 yo DS home we have to make two pizzas to have any hope of having enough.

The rectangular pizza I do on a non-stick baking sheet, and I have a special non-stick round pizza pan from Calphalon that has holes to let the hot air come up and crisp the crust. I've had it for 20 years and it's brilliant.

We're having the homemade brownies for dessert (pudding?).

@MindatWork, how about a traditional scone recipe?

Doesn't use eggs (or many ingredients at all for that matter) and can be made either savoury with addition of cheese/paprika, etc, or sweet with the addition of dried fruit and/or sugar.

Try this recipe:

Ingredients

225g self raising flour
1 pinch salt
50g cold butter, diced
25g caster sugar only for sweet or plain versions
50g sultanas or 100g grated cheese & ½tsp paprika (all optional)
120ml milk, plus extra for brushing

Method

Preheat oven to 200 C.

Grease a baking tray.
Measure out the flour and salt in a mixing bowl. Add the butter.
Rub together with your fingertips until the mixture looks like breadcrumbs.
Stir in the sugar (if using) and sultanas, or cheese, (if using).
Add the milk to the mixture and stir everything together. Knead the mixture together with your hands until you have formed a stiff dough, but do not overwork or they will be tough.
Gently roll out the dough until it is 2cm thick. Cut out shapes with round biscuit cutters dipped in flour.
Put the scones on a baking tray, brush them with milk & bake for 12 to 15 minutes.
Leave them on a cooling rack for 5 minutes.
Tear apart, don't cut with a knife, as it ruins the texture!
