So with the supermarkets having limited stock, my cats have had to have cheaper supermarket own brand cat food.

They are refusing to eat it full stop. They might have a nibble here and there but they just wont eat

@Witchend - it doesn't work like that.
Mice are to play with, or to give the human as a gift - for which the cat expects to be rewarded with cat food.

madcatladyforever · 28/03/2020 18:39

Its the other way round here OP, I bought my cat loads of the really expensive food she loves and she is now refusing to eat it.

MitziK · 28/03/2020 18:41

And this is why the DTwatCats currently have a box of eighty five quids' worth of wanky crunchies sitting on the tumble dryer.

Can't take the risk of not being able to get it normally (veterinary reasons, DTwatCat #2's Arse of Evil can't take anything cheap/easily available and she's a fussy cow who will either starve herself to the level of RSPCA involvement if she doesn't get something she likes or become hysterically obsessed with whatever we're eating), so I order 3 months' supply at a time.

Chiyo666 · 28/03/2020 18:42

My cat won’t eat expensive food haha.
I don’t feel for him though as he really doesn’t like fish but that’s all they had so he has 40 pouches of fish flavoured food to get through.

starlightgazers · 28/03/2020 18:46

Oh. my goodness - this has made me laugh Grin

My 2 male DCats are currently on hunger strike as I've just managed to get hold off some Felix for them instead of the gourmet cat soup they've been feasting on for the last week. I'm also getting some filthy looks and flounces from both Grin.

Of course, I still adore them regardless, and they know it too...

1Morewineplease · 28/03/2020 18:48

You need to sit them down and have a frank discussion with them. They need to know that their behaviour is unacceptable.
You then need to feed them the last plumpest chicken breasts from your freezer with the last of your rice and then you eat the inferior cat food.

Toddlerteaplease · 28/03/2020 18:52

You are all being very unreasonable.

A) for not pandering to your overlords

B) for not posting a single cat photo.

HeckyPeck · 28/03/2020 18:52

One of our cats ate an entire pigeon.

I read that as penguin somehow and was impressed at their hunting skills! 🤣

BentNeckLady · 28/03/2020 18:53

My cats eat what they’re given or they don’t eat. I took took much the same stance with my kids who will now eat pretty much everything.

Pandering to fussiness is a mistake a cross all species Grin

isseywith4vampirecats · 28/03/2020 18:53

my cats are loving it at the moment as I couldn't get the aldi pouches they normally have so had to go in pets at home spend more money than I normally do to get whiskas and felix pouches god knows when this ends how im going to get them back to aldis

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 28/03/2020 18:54

Yes my cats are pretty miserable at the moment - no Sheba in the shops and the pub they usually go and beg at is obviously shut - on a plus note my vet did say a couple of them needed to lose weight 🤣

Bubbletrouble43 · 28/03/2020 18:56

I have a dog that's used to having cooked chicken with his kibble. I'm rationing it out as we don't get another delivery for a fortnight and he's whining about it. Literally stares at the paltry amount of chicken in his kibble and gives me a look !

It's not just me then. I saw the writing on the wall with regards to lockdown last weekend and made sure I had plenty of my cats food. One will eat virtually anything you put in front of him (14 year old feline dustbin)
The other however will only eat basic, boring whiskas. That's it. She also will only eat a specific brand of dried food. I've got enough for about a month so hopefully shop supplies will have settled down by then

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 28/03/2020 19:19

Out for exercise in the community garden (before returning for the posh german cat food)

I'm making mine eat all the stocks that have built up due to the cycle of them refusing to eat whatever I just bought a big pack of.

They're not impressed, but I've told them that it's immoral for us to have so much food when others are struggling to find what they need. They're all ex-rescues and it's shocking how entitled they become despite previous suffering, you'd think they would be more grateful.

caringcarer · 28/03/2020 19:20

I have 6 cats and I have had to substitute some of their tins and pouches with crunchies. I am struggling to get cat litter too. Just before shops started rationing I went 3 successive days and bought 3 douzen cans and 3 packs of pouches each time. They eat 4 cans and 3 pouches and few crunchies each day normally. Now I am giving them 2 cans, 2 pouches and lots of crunchies. They are not impressed. On Sunday's they have the leftover beef or chicken sliced up with gravy but DH says we should not do that now as some people can't even get food. He says we ought to eat it ourselves on Mondays.

LondonernotinLondon · 28/03/2020 19:32

Haha this is rustymy other baby. I also had a panic when 10 days ago tescos shelves were completely empty of Iams so I managed to get some aldi biscuits and he looked at the packaging looked and me and flounced off saying that is not happening so then I had to drive to 3 other supermarkets finding him his Iams and found a few packs thanks god!!!

Mine will only eat a specific supermarket own brand range.

So I can't even shop round for it anywhere.

I have got just over a weeks supply left so I'm going to have to get more soon.

(one of them even comes out in horrible dandruff if I feed them even a slightly different food from the same supermarket!
