Jam & Cheese Sandwiches

DrSheldonCooperPHD · 28/03/2020 12:10

Is this a thing? 3 yo DS just asked for one for his lunch. DH says it's a thing and they're really nice, DS twin brother and me think he's nuts!!

Is it a thing? Are they nice? Any recommendations for how they are best (hot/cold grated/sliced)? I have extra mature cheddar and strawberry jam.

I can imagine it’s a thing . We’re very fond of bacon , Brie and cranberry bagels here so not hugely different .

AlpineSnow · 28/03/2020 12:24

I remember in the 70s reading it as a suggestion for a sandwich in the Brownie handbook. It said to try it as we'd be surprised how nice it was

whiteblankpage · 28/03/2020 12:24

I’m north east and it’s a thing in our family, definitely. Delish, especially with a strong cheddar and strawberry.

ScouseQueen · 28/03/2020 12:29

@AlpineSnow snap! Knew I'd read it in some childhood annual as per my earlier post.

AWintersBall · 28/03/2020 12:34

My DS has this! He is 4. His ingredients list is

Jam
Ham
Cheese
Honey
Peanut butter

He would ideally take all of it on one sandwich but any combination of the above is fine with him.

Apolloanddaphne · 28/03/2020 12:35

I had toast with raspberry jam and cheese for my breakfast. I love it.

ElfAndSafety1 · 28/03/2020 12:36

@hoggleludo my son also eats jam and ham sandwiches. Every. Single. Day. Grin

Trou · 28/03/2020 12:38

Oh yessss - orange Kraft cheese spread out of a glass jar, and bramble seedless jam. On white sliced bread!

TwoZeroTwoZero · 28/03/2020 12:38

Cheese and chilli jam is nice on a sandwich. Unfortunately we don't have either :(

angelopal · 28/03/2020 12:39

Looks like I am in the minority as never heard of it and don't fancy it in the slightest.

BikeRunSki · 28/03/2020 12:40

Definitely a thing. Cheddar and strawberry jam is my fave. Philly and strawberry jam on crackers/digestives is mini cheesecake.

DNeph likes a bread sandwhich. He is very particular about the recipe.

mouse70 · 28/03/2020 12:41

Lovely jam and cheese also fruit cake and cheese hot cross buns and cheese, cheese and slice of apple pie (see the common denominator!!!!) How would love to go to kitchen and feed on any of these but do not have most of these items and that which I have being frugal with to make them last.

PearlHeart3 · 28/03/2020 12:41

This is definitely a thing although I've always had strange looks when I mention it amongst friends. My Grandma and Mum would make me a cheese and jam sandwich when I was unwell to cheer me up. Raspberry jam and slices of mature cheddar are nice. I butter the slices of white bread first.

AlunWynsKnee · 28/03/2020 12:42

It's definitely a thing in my family. Dd used to love them. My nan made them for my mum in the 40s.

Weekday28 · 28/03/2020 12:42

My kids love cheese and honey so I guess its very similar, enjoy!

MereDintofPandiculation · 28/03/2020 12:42

Not so much different from the cheese and quince paste that they eat in Spain and Portugal). Especially as quince is marmelo in Portuguese and the origin of our word marmalade (and quince paste is marmelada).

Cheese and fruit cake is standard in Yorkshire. Can't think that the icing on the Christmas cake would add much to the combination though! DH eats cheese with Christmas cake, but he passes the icing on to those who appreciate it.

runwithme · 28/03/2020 12:54

Peanut butter, jam and cheese sandwich!

HaudMaDug · 28/03/2020 13:00

Definitely a thing. Good strong cheddar and raspberry jam sandwiches have been my favourite since I was 5. (I'm 45 now).

TuscanGreen · 28/03/2020 13:03

Cheese on hot cross buns is delicious- similar thing

Lottieskeeper · 28/03/2020 13:05

Lemon curd and cheedar is a favourite of my mums; I'm more a peanut butter and jam fan.

Lottieskeeper · 28/03/2020 13:06

Cheedar? - Cheddar, stupid phone

iklboo · 28/03/2020 13:09

Peanut butter, raspberry jam & chilli cheese sandwiches are gorgeous.

Glittertwins · 28/03/2020 13:53

Raspberry jam and cheddar are my favourite. Used to live off them when I was younger!!

EngagedAgain · 28/03/2020 13:54

I've never tried it but cheese and a slice of apple go nicely together. Cheese is also nice with fruit cake. I digress slightly but I like digestive biscuits with cream cheese, yummy. Rarely eat cheese now for health reasons ☹️

recededpronunciation · 28/03/2020 13:55

Not that different to Brie and cranberry really. I love a jam and cheese sarnie.
