To go out with a cough, sore throat and runny nose?

The cough I’ve had for nearly two months. It’s intermittent but can go on for a while and knowing my luck will start in the queue for the supermarket!

The runny nose and sore throat is due to sinusitis from said flu like illness two months ago.

I need to get food in today. Don’t want to send teenagers as worried they’ll forget about touching stuff, social distancing.

I am well in myself.

AIBU?

If it's not a new cough and your symptoms are from a previous illness a while ago then you could go out. Be prepared to be treated like a leper though. Is there not anyone else who could go for you?

NearlyGranny · 28/03/2020 12:12

Time for the teens to step up, I reckon!

user1483387154 · 28/03/2020 12:15

Send the teenagers

iMoan7 · 28/03/2020 12:15

I hear you. I have a cough that won’t go away. The comments!!

Strongmummy · 28/03/2020 12:16

Send the teens

Sh05 · 28/03/2020 12:16

You can still go but beprepared to get comments and horrified looks from others.

Just before the lockdown I went in to a store, it was very warm in there and I always get a tickly throat in warm surroundings. I'm glad the lady at the tills knew me otherwise it was a bit awkward standing in the queue trying to surpress my cough

TheReluctantCountess · 28/03/2020 12:17

Send the teens.

dementedpixie · 28/03/2020 12:19

Do you have a scarf or something you could wrap round the bottom of your face and that would both muffle and look as if its offering protection

Oldraver · 28/03/2020 12:20

I have a cough due to medication, the last week or so travelling on the bus was hard.

Many many people have smokers coughs etc like my OH.

Did I read that Tesco will evict anyone with a cough ?

SpoonfulofDragon · 28/03/2020 12:20

YABU. Send the Teenagers. With winter gloves on.

ButteryPuffin · 28/03/2020 12:21

Send the teens, give them a list and make them wash their hands really well on return. You shouldn't go for your own sake and others.

Cunninglittlevixen · 28/03/2020 12:21

You should all be self isolating

ChewChewIsMySpiritAnimal · 28/03/2020 12:21

Send the teenagers. If they can't cope with buying a bit of shopping maybe it's time to look at why they're not capable of it.

Songofsixpence · 28/03/2020 12:23

I hear you too

I’ve got a very intermittent cough that’s been hanging around from a stinking cough and cold I had a couple of months ago

dementedpixie · 28/03/2020 12:24

It depends how old the teens are- 13 is very different from 17.

You should all be self isolating - why do you think this?

ludothedog · 28/03/2020 12:30

I'm the same, been I'll for around a month, sore throat, runny nose, cough and lots of mucas. Most likely just a bad cold. I keep checking on the nuts website but not same symptoms. Anyway, i'm not going out.

I suggest it's time for your teens to step up and do the shopping. They might just surprise you and if they miss a few things, so what. I'm sure you will survive!

IOnlyWannaBeWithYou · 28/03/2020 12:30

The supermarket my DH went in yesterday had signs saying anyone coughing would be asked to leave.

AintNobodyHereButUsKittens · 28/03/2020 12:30

DH and DS have photic sneeze reflexes. When they’ve gone out for a walk on the last two sunny days they’ve felt like lepers. It’ll be even worse once hay fever season kicks in.

JustCantShakeIt · 28/03/2020 12:39

Hmm. Teens are perfectly capable to pick up a few bits but it would be a weeks worth of shopping for 6 people! They could get a few bits for tonight and tomorrow but then more shopping would be needed on Monday and although I was told that this cough could last up to 8 weeks by my GP, and it is lessening each day, it won’t be completely gone for a while yet.

I was thinking to wear a thick fabric face mask so if I do cough any spitum (love and hate that word!) will land on it, not on other people!

Also want to avoid multiple trips to the shops. Teens are a bit stoopid as well (much as I love them) and I don’t want them to go into a high risk place like a supermarket and potentially bring the virus home with them!

Thanks for replies. Will mull it over some more.

I have hayfever. It’s a nightmare !

SolemnlySwear2010 · 28/03/2020 12:41

I went shopping in Wednesday with my little girl (no one to leave her with) and she coughed after drinking too much water - you would think she had spewed pure poison with the looks that we got.

diddl · 28/03/2020 12:42

Take one teen, wait in the car & pop in to pay?

Patch23042 · 28/03/2020 12:43

I’m sure they’re not stupid, OP. They’ll be ok.

slartibarti · 28/03/2020 12:43

You shouldn't go out. If you cough or sneeze you'll expel droplets.
If you've become infected with coronavirus and don't have symptoms yet then there's the potential to infect other people.

forrasee · 28/03/2020 12:44

OP it's not that hard. Meal plan, very specific shopping list, gloves on - send the teens.
