hey will be asked if their report concerns rule-breaking by an individual, group, or business, on what street, and at what date and time - by the minute.

It comes as police forces across the country face charges of 'overzealousness' from ex-MPs, lawyers, and human-rights groups this week.

Wow...

mooboy did you hear the Derbyshire police guy interviewed by Evan Davis? He sounded unhinged.

Splodgetastic · 28/03/2020 16:07

@Nicknacky, Hopefully everyone understands that there is a difference between guidance and legislation. There are three problems. First, people following the letter of the law but not the spirit. Second, the police trying to enforce the spirit of the law but not the letter. Third, the police going beyond what is even in the (public) guidance telling people who are doing what is permitted by both the legislation and the guidance that they can only go out for food if they’re desperate! I assume that the police can give “strong words of advice” about this, as long as they don’t mislead the public about their rights.

mooboy · 28/03/2020 16:07

@Nicknacky It was radio interviews - really embarrassing - they sounded like the frothers on here. Not what you'd expect from a Chief Constable at all.

Tonyaster · 28/03/2020 16:08

I bet it was the one i heard

Nicknacky · 28/03/2020 16:08

splodge Excellently put.

Nicknacky · 28/03/2020 16:10

Maybe it’s just as well I missed it. I follow Nick Adderly from Nottinghamshire police on Twitter, he is a fab CC and a total role model for other forces.

chomalungma · 28/03/2020 16:11

There will be an enquiry after all of this - and I really hope the reaction of the police is looked at.

As an aside - I am very impressed with drones with speakers on. What else do they have?

Knowing your rights is so important. Yes, we have responsiblities as well, but there is a law. Parliament makes law, courts interpret it and police enforce it. Or else what kind of society do we become?

Was he the same berk talking totally gibberish like this, attempting to police what people wear on a bike?

"Essential travel and local exercise does not include driving to locations and going for walks. It does not include lycra-clad leisure cycling"

Tonyaster · 28/03/2020 16:46

Yes! He was frothing.

Must be something in the water in Derbyshire

That's a common thing to do, they do it in some reservoirs/lakes to deter swimmers in the hot weather as people get into difficulty and drown each summer because they don't realise how cold the water is and how hard it is get out, nor what is under the water that might trap them or eat them

I think Derbyshire police have too much time on their hands. They’re an embarrassment to themselves.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 28/03/2020 17:48

I'm a Derbyshire girl myself and that Buxton "Blue Lagoon" piece is just another ridiculous attempt to ramp up the virus story

It was actually dyed black in 2013 and again in 2018, because water pollution and dumping means the site's considered dangerous (in fact a 14 year old drowned there in 2012)

Unescorted · 28/03/2020 17:53

They have been dying that res black for a few years now... it is really toxic. And people are stupid enough to swim in it despite it being bright blue and surrounded by barbed wire and warning signs.

However the drone video was bizarre - to exercise around here you either go up on the hills or walk along national speed limit roads without foot paths. The form is going to be a field day for our local self appointed village pleasure police... they are convinced that anyone in walking boots, on a bike or fell running is from Manchester or Sheffield and come out of their houses to stand in the middle of the road to shout abuse. Most of the people I have seen out and about are walkers, cyclists and runners from the village. The ones coming out of their houses don't recognise them because they haven't been out of their car / house for years. It is truly bonkers.

We know a couple in their 70s and who we thought would not be obeying the rules. He is a very keen golfer and always goes out for a coffee once a day. We knew he would get stir crazy.

We have found out they both went to Morrisons on Thursday, M&S Food on Friday and Wilko [for dog stuff!!!] today.

It'll come as no surprise if more stringent measures are brought in.

Poppinjay · 28/03/2020 18:05

Spraying disinfectant on people over the fence could well constitute assault so the PP's DD would be well advised not to be so hasty in her actions and think first.

She did think! She would be very interested to hear how they would explain to the police where they were and why they were there when they were assaulted Grin

What rules are they breaking? Even those in the vulnerable group are "allowed" out.

swishthecat · 28/03/2020 18:06

And why the heck are you spying on them?

pippishortsocks · 28/03/2020 18:12

She would be very interested to hear how they would explain to the police where they were and why they were there when they were assaulted

So they get a £30/£60 fine and she gets a criminal record for assault. That doesn't sound much like thinking to me.

OMG! You should have called the feds on them. They're like totally NOT DOING ANYTHING AGAINST THE RULES.

swishthecat · 28/03/2020 18:15

iklboo the only people doing anything wrong are the busybodies spying on that couple. They went to Wilkos!!! For dog food!!!!!!

iklboo · 28/03/2020 18:48

Exactly @swishthecat

Hopeisnotastrategy · 28/03/2020 18:51

Any citizen’s primary civil right is the right to life. In this unprecedented situation, anyone who doesn’t respect the rules is endangering others as well as themselves.

NewYearNewJob123 · 28/03/2020 18:54

I'd also like to know why someone thinks a couple in their 70s aren't allowed to go to the shops..
