He's right. Atm they are not accepting money. I'd wait till this is all over and then tip. X

coffeeandpyjamas · 28/03/2020 07:09

Most supermarket delivery drivers contractually cannot accept tips. I also wouldn’t be using cash at a time like this for anything.

RickOShay · 28/03/2020 07:09

I’ve been tipping the delivery man from my local shop. It’s cash only so I wash the money and say keep the change.

OtherVoices · 28/03/2020 07:11

amigoing
Do you know this for sure?

OtherVoices · 28/03/2020 07:15

I thought I'd put it on an empty crate... no face to face contact.

I can understand the problem with cash atm obviously.

Just annoyed that there seems to be no way.

swampytiggaa · 28/03/2020 07:19

Pretty sure they aren’t allowed to accept cash...

LefttoherownDevizes · 28/03/2020 07:20

I put tip money on an envelope and sellotaped it to the doorbell

swampytiggaa · 28/03/2020 07:21

If it makes you feel better Tesco have increased wages and discount for staff for the duration (husband works there) so they are being appreciated by the store.

Plus the drivers get paid more than the checkout staff who are in contact with many many more people every day...

LefttoherownDevizes · 28/03/2020 07:21

I always tip anyway but feel it's more important now than ever

SurpriseSparDay · 28/03/2020 07:21

This is a ridiculous idea. Delivery drivers should not be accepting tips even in normal circumstances.

And why on earth would you want to be potentially spreading the virus in this pointless manner?

I absolutely do not want my delivery driver handling my bags of food after picking up money from random strangers! Eurgh!

OtherVoices · 28/03/2020 07:38

surprise
Thank you for your dramatic reply.
Why do you think I asked? I am quite aware of the situation
As for never tipping a delivery driver even under normal circumstances,
I usually pay for all takeaways by cash as do a lot of people. I tip them too.

I know Tesco drivers are not allowed to accept tips, they aren't even meant to accept drinks/sweets etc.

Tesco are very strict about things like that.

Marieo · 28/03/2020 07:49

Aren't all Tesco staff getting a 10% bonus on top of their wages whilst this is going on? So no.

RickOShay · 28/03/2020 07:54

The plastic money is easy to disinfect I wash it before he comes and dry it on a radiator.
I think all supermarket staff should have a pay rise. It does seem that Tesco’s are the supermarket who is behaving the most responsibly.

Darbs76 · 28/03/2020 07:55

You could try, they can only refuse

Teddypops · 28/03/2020 08:00

I tipped my tesco delivery driver this week but I handed it to him from a dettol wipe. He took it and seemed grateful

Kochicoo · 28/03/2020 08:30

I've tipped them before and they've seemed very pleased

catnidge · 28/03/2020 08:46

I tip, I wipe with disinfectant and place in envelope and place at a distance.
Ok, maybe they're getting 10% extra, but it's 10% of not very much!

heartsonacake · 28/03/2020 08:49

YABU. Tesco drivers aren’t allowed to accept tips, so if they are doing so, they are breaking their own work policy and can get fired for it.

You shouldn’t knowingly put them in that position.

Femail · 28/03/2020 09:04

I work for a supermarket and employees cannot accept tips or any gifts. If found out can lose there job. The best way is to ring up and speak to the store manager as there is rewards programmes in place for employees. Also with all the staff in retail there are reward programmes in place and with things the way they are please can customers give positive feedback as this gives a good feeling to the staff member and a little reward which goes along way. After all our health is at risk more than ever now

browzingss · 28/03/2020 09:11

Must say that I’m confused as to why you think this would be a good idea.

Some poor pittance of change isn’t worth transmission of your germs. Contact free is pointless when the change itself is dirty. Cleaning it yourself is redundant- the delivery driver would have to waste their time cleaning the tip themselves, and washing their hands before and after whilst they’re already swamped with tasks.

They don’t need your tip. Their health is more important. Their job is more important.
