Why was prince Charles tested?

Dishwashersaurous · 27/03/2020 09:28

Aibu to want to know why Prince Charles was tested on the nhs despite only minor symptoms. Whilst nhs workers are having to self isolate if someone in their family has suspected covid. But can’t get tested

Calm down plebs

Marieo · 27/03/2020 09:48

Even if he wasn't royal, he met the criteria for testing where he was.

LesLavandes · 27/03/2020 09:48

He was probably tested privately and paid for it.

The Royal family don't normally use NHS services

Abraid2 · 27/03/2020 09:48

So he might have infected an important politician from another country. And you don't think that's useful to know?

Noconceptofnormal · 27/03/2020 09:50

Surely no one is naive enough to think that the royal family don't get health are above NHS standard?

This. I mean come on. When Kate and Meghan gave birth they weren't intermittently cared for by midwives flitting in and out in an NHS hospital then shoved in a ward with 5 other mothers and their babies...!

I think the Royal Family would have been better off paying for the £375 test you can buy from Harley Street for Charles and Camilla rather than deplete NHS resources at this time though. The whole 'we're all in it together' thing has backfired for them.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 27/03/2020 09:51

He met the criteria.
And he is an heir to the throne and in a direct contact with the Queen.
Britain can't handle "stay at home", I don't even want to imagine the mess if something happened to the Queen now.

However, I agree there should be more testing available!

Porcupineinwaiting · 27/03/2020 09:52

Actually it's been confirmed that he and his wife were tested on the NHS.

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 27/03/2020 09:52

Oh for goodness sake stop this

fiddlethefiddles · 27/03/2020 09:53

Because he met the testing criteria for the region he was in

Would he have been tested if he had stayed in England and not travelled to Scotland when he was showing symptoms? He made a non-essential journey to a holiday home when he didn't need to which is the height of irresponsibility.

tiredanddangerous · 27/03/2020 09:54

Presumably because he’s the heir to the throne.

Bojo1 · 27/03/2020 09:54

FFS why are people so dense? He’s the heir to the throne and he met the criteria!

DailyKegelReminder · 27/03/2020 09:56

Let's be realistic he would have been tested in any region no matter their "rules" people are regularly getting told unless you are struggling to breathe to stay at home.

Hes next in line, he probably just asked for one and was given it. Simple as that really.

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 27/03/2020 09:56
  1. He had been in close contact with Prince Albert of Monaco who has/had Coronavirus.
  1. He was suffering symptoms of Coronavirus.
  1. He is heir apparent to the throne.
  1. He qualified under criteria for NHS Scotland.
  1. Because of points 1 & 2 above, it was necessary to find out definitively in order to protect and identify others who have been at risk due to contact with him.
  1. Due to his role and the duties undertaken, he has probably been in contact with a lot more people than the average NHS worker.
(e.g. Visit to College of music, Boris Johnson visited him, Commonwealth Service at Westminster, Investitures, Australian Aid - these are but a few).

You're way behind with this though OP. It has been done to death on other threads already.

Bombaybunty · 27/03/2020 09:57

Are you equally outraged that Idris Elba was tested?

Hingeandbracket · 27/03/2020 09:57

A course of homeopathy should cure him pretty quickly.
Grin

rookiemere · 27/03/2020 09:57

I'm in Scotland and it's pretty difficult to get a test unless you're in hospital. I can see why Charles has got one - if he was displaying symptoms and has an underlying condition we're not aware off - but I can't see how Camilla did if she was symptomless.

Royal Family tend to use the NHS when it suits them I think. In this case they would have been much better paying for him and all the household to get tests, rather than depleting NHS resources and then acting as if anyone in the same situation would have received the same treatment.

Marieo · 27/03/2020 09:58

Would he have been tested if he had stayed in England and not travelled to Scotland when he was showing symptoms? He made a non-essential journey to a holiday home when he didn't need to which is the height of irresponsibility.

Of course, he is royalty. He will have been advised to go to Scotland, as the other royals have been dispersed because it's a contingency plan. He didn't sit there and think going to hop on the train now Hmm. Whether you like it or not they are different to the rest of us, I don't see why you can't see that. In this case though he was entitled just as any one else in the area would have been.

scaevola · 27/03/2020 09:58

If he'd had a private test, then they'd just not have mentioned how he accessed the test, and we'd just have assumed that like every footballer and film star, he'd paid. And we woudn't have thought twice about it, as quite a lot of their healthcare in in the private sector

As they said NHS because he's entitled up there, then I think it's true. Too easy to disprove for a start. And no-one has been able to show he fell outside his local regs

Postcode lottery in action?

Hingeandbracket · 27/03/2020 09:58

I don't even want to imagine the mess if something happened to the Queen now.
Eh?

rookiemere · 27/03/2020 09:59

I'm pretty sure Idris Elba paid for his test, just as I would if I were in the position that £375 didn't mean that much to me.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 27/03/2020 09:59

Literally any politician is tested now if there is even the slightest suspicion.

Do you think that if UK had a president that the president and his family wouldn't be tested like that? 🤷🏻

rookiemere · 27/03/2020 10:02

I don't begrudge politicians an NHS test. Boris - for all his sins - is meant to be serving the country, we need him to stay well and know if he needs to self isolate. Also politicians salaries are high, but nothing compared to the personal wealth of the Royal Family and it's not earned, but inherited wealth.

LittleCandle · 27/03/2020 10:03

It also appears to have escaped people's notice that Camilla meets people too, so perhaps would be useful to discover if she is positive because of that reason?

Use your brains, people.

DailyKegelReminder · 27/03/2020 10:05

Everyone of the Royal family will have been tested regardless of symptoms. I'm suprised anyone would think otherwise. I'd imagine their closest staff would have been tested by now too.

Mlou32 · 27/03/2020 10:06

I don't know. The chief medical officer for Scotland said that there was good reasons for him being tested however she couldn't go into details for reasons of patient confidentiality. That should be good enough for us.
