I didn't clap

I had no idea about it! Heard the noisecat 8pm looked out the window and saw people outside clapping but couldn't see why. I'm not on social media and I didn't hear about it. Saw on the news later but I missed it. I do give a care about the NHS but now all my neighbors will think I'm terrible and don't care!

Crap, that was supposed to tag @bananaontoast1 oops

millymoo1202 · 26/03/2020 22:15

I didn’t know either, I’d just come in the door from work and was putting out the bins, but there’s been someone moaning about not enough clapping on our local fb page!!

sofasocks · 26/03/2020 22:16

I appreciate the workers, the amazing NHS, all the amazing key workers, all doing a fabulous job. Nothing about politics who i voted for at all. I voted labour but can't deny the government are doing the best they can at this time. And the clap was for the workers. No politics involved!!!

Nearlyalmost50 · 26/03/2020 22:19

Why do people keep saying they did other things? It's not either or. I've signed up to volunteer, didn't vote Tory and thanked people in the NHS personally and I clapped! Is that enough? I can't actually make PHE hand over the PPE!

It was a touching moment, coming together, people are doing it in other countries too, if it's not for you and you like to feel superior by not clapping, that's actually weird!

Qwerty543 · 26/03/2020 22:23

I didn't clap. I see no point. It doesn't do anything and makes no sense to me at all. I work in healthcare, not frontline though.

hipposarerad · 26/03/2020 22:25

DP is home now after what was, he says, a really tough day. He said that him and his crew mate were blown away (and a bit tearful) to see and hear the number of people on their doorsteps and at their windows. He said that after the day they'd had, they really needed it.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 26/03/2020 22:26

I didn't clap. I see no point

Morale? If you worked for the NHS and lived down our street and heard what happened here (people standing on their doorsteps, hanging out of windows, clapping and whistling.....) it'd have surely lifted you and made you feel a little appreciated?!

JayAlfredPrufrock · 26/03/2020 22:26

I didn’t Clap. No near neighbours so what’s the point if no one can hear me?

PFI?

triedandtestedteacher · 26/03/2020 22:27

I didn't clap but that was because my mother (nurse) was on the phone to me telling me how ridiculous it was and telling me not to go outside in case I caught it from one of the neighbours in between yelling at my dad to keep the front door closed

Hippee · 26/03/2020 22:27

To everyone who says it's just virtue signalling - loads of NHS friends and workers said that it did really give them a boost. Friends on a farm a mile from town could hear the clapping.

Andromeida59 · 26/03/2020 22:31

We had clapping all around here plus fireworks and one person beeping their car horn. I couldn't join in as don't have the strength but I thought it was beautiful. I sincerely hoped it helped to give people a boost but it, maybe selfishly, made me feel less alone.

MadamePewter · 26/03/2020 22:32

@TheWordmeister I’m with you

Butterymuffin · 26/03/2020 22:33

didn’t clap either. I show my appreciation by not voting Tory

It's not an either / or

RedHelenB · 26/03/2020 22:34

I don't vote Tory and I clapped, along with most of our street.

MayDayHelp · 26/03/2020 22:34

For anyone who did clap and is also a Tory voter, you’re a bellend.

NymphadoraBonks · 26/03/2020 22:35

A woman on my FB has been berating her neighbours for not clapping. Vile woman just loves a chance to bitch at someone.

Ilovemybigallotment · 26/03/2020 22:35

I’m a nurse I work on the frontline I missed it because I got off late tonight. But I don’t need you to clap (I’m just doing my job) I WANT YOU TO STAY AT HOME, do as you’ve been asked to do no exceptions. That’s how you show you’re appreciation.

katienana · 26/03/2020 22:38

It was really nice, I was surprised how many did it. On my school chat group lots of the NHS workers on there were really touched. It gave me a sense of community and reminded me how good most people are.

Oakmaiden · 26/03/2020 22:38

I was thinking of posting about this. Because I HATE stuff like this. I am not sure why. Quite happy to be appreciative in my thoughts or in person, but The thought of standing in the street clapping for someone who isn't there just makes me feel very odd.

I feel the same way about minutes silences. Quite happy in private to spend a few minutes thinking about whatever it is, but will walk several miles over hot coals (OK, exaggeration) to save myself being in a public place when everyone stops and stands silently.

Maybe there is something wrong with me. I dunno.

MadamePewter · 26/03/2020 22:39

@Ilovemybigallotment I think that’s how i see it. I’m complying with the rules which I fucking hate and are ruining my life (yes, I know, to save people, that’s why comply) and nhs staff and other people still working do their jobs. I have no job or income just now. I very much appreciate people doing their jobs but don’t want to clap them

Winter2020 · 26/03/2020 22:40

I appreciate the NHS greatly but I feel a little shy about the clapping.

I would rather contribute some cash to a welfare fund for NHS workers or something like that and show my appreciation that way.

Does anyone know of anything like that existing?

Weirdwonders · 26/03/2020 22:42

Also I’m with Pickles89, I don’t think we should be encouraging the country to go outdoors at the same time right now. Too many opportunities for social interactions when we should be trying to avoid it.

MadamePewter · 26/03/2020 22:43

NHS staff are still in jobs though. Maybe welfare fund for people who have lost theirs like local hospitality staff? (I am not in hospitality)! Or homeless care?

AngeloMysterioso · 26/03/2020 22:44

I didn’t because baby DS chose that moment to have a 45 minute screamathon Sad
