To wonder where the clap is for the rest of the key workers

I fully support the NHS. But where's the clap for the supermarket staff slogging their guts out completely at risk. The delivery drivers? The teachers the utility workers, police and every one who so far is bearing to brunt of this crisis. If you're one of those other keyworkers....I applaud you too, as much as the NHS.

@IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls I assume your London way?

limpbizkit · 27/03/2020 00:51

You're not your

limpbizkit · 27/03/2020 00:52

@IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls I'm sorry for what the conditions are at your hospital. I honestly am saddened to hear how you feel Flowers

DeeCeeCherry · 27/03/2020 03:39

dreamingbohemian speak for yourself about being snide - at least I'm not in a petty, jealous twist just because NHS staff were acknowledged. If it grinds your gears that's on you.

Supermarket workers keeping me fed..? No dear smaller shops do that; they do exist you know. Not everybody here goes to supermarkets, don't want to shock you but people are from different places and may not frequent supermarkets as you do.

Who'd have thought the public showing appreciation for NHS would've got people so grouchy? I live and learn.

I'm still working, maybe I

DeeCeeCherry · 27/03/2020 03:43

*I'm still working maybe I will randomly change my job title to key worker too...

Thanks to NHS staff for all you do.

Loooobyloo · 27/03/2020 05:51

I'm a delivery driver, if people started applauding me I'd feel very uncomfortable. I'm doing my job and (hopefully) not putting my life at risk.
The NHS are understaffed and overworked at the best of times, this is the worst.

calpolatdawn · 27/03/2020 06:00

my moan his how many of those clapping voted Conservative and for austerity, probably the same people whinging about paying bills with £94 a week and stopped, which were happy for disabled /unemployed people to live like that. Hmm

calpolatdawn · 27/03/2020 06:01

*stopped income.

Fishbiscuits · 27/03/2020 06:08

*The only people I have seen with those “show off profile pic photo frames” have been NHS nurses

Not true at all fishbiscuits & you know it.

& even if it were (which is isn't) if anybody deserves a frame it's them. But they don't do the attention crave.

Still, the Waspish Whatabouterers with their begrudgery can go to a supermarket worker if ever worried about health I'm sure, so all will be well.*

I wasn’t aware you were able to view my Facebook feed. As I say, the only people I personally have seen putting those frames on amongst my friends are NHS nurses. I don’t see why that is so hard to believe.

Bool · 27/03/2020 06:21

For some people it’s never enough is it. I stay away from people like that. Moany, whiny, glass half empty.

LesLavandes · 27/03/2020 06:21

I think there is another clap this evening. Will that help?

Monstercruch · 27/03/2020 06:38

Wish Labour voters would stop banging on about Tory voters clapping. It’s pathetic but what you come to expect from them now. No real understanding of anything. Just sheep voting because it’s what they been brainwashed to do

BennyBanana · 27/03/2020 06:45

I wonder where is the clap for construction workers, the most dangerous industry at the best of times still forced to go to work and get called selfish idiots for using TFL to get there.

BennyBanana · 27/03/2020 06:47

Oh yes. Previous post reminded me of the hypocrisy of Tory voters clapping. Yes that too.

I think people are clapping for NHS workers as they are frightened that the good will will end and many in the front line will quit / refuse to go to work and the NHS will collapse. This may happen if the mortality rates soar for NHS workers do to a lack of PPE.

damnitnotlistening · 27/03/2020 07:58

The front line NHS staff are living and breathing this every shift. They are having to work with less than adequate PPE
They are nursing patients who appear asymptmatic and are being told no ppe
They are watching people die alone
They are tired
They are stressed
They’re short staffed
They’re in ITU nursing 1:6 but will still be held accountable for mistakes.
They’re probably hungry and dehydrated as there’s no time for breaks.
They’re watching their friends and colleagues fall in their feet with exhaustion.
They’re terrified to admit they’re scared.
They’re terrified to admit they can’t do it anymore.
They’re leaving their families so they’re not at risk.
Their taking up accommodation alone to be well enough to care for us.
These are the staff historically neglected by the government and now deemed super heroes.

I clapped for the NHS front line staff and I will continue to support them over any other.
I respect the other carers don’t get me wrong but their shifts are nothing like those of the front line.

dreamingbohemian · 27/03/2020 08:48

DeeCee gosh that's rather rude. I'm not the OP and I don't object to the clap. I object to the comments denigrating the work of food retail workers, it's not necessary to make your point.

And I say food retail, not supermarkets. My husband does not work in a supermarket and we don't usually shop in one. I'm talking about everyone directly providing food to the public.

We keep being told how easy it is to get the virus, everyone needs to stay home and stay 6 feet away from people, otherwise you might get sick and die. Oh but you food workers, you need to go work longer shifts and come into close contact with hundreds of people a day, better cross your fingers then.

I'm not comparing it to NHS staff, just saying it's not nothing either. Every time anyone says "It's ok, I'm only going out for food'" it's like they think there's a magical virus protection zone there.

I don't know any food workers looking for gratitude or a clap, but just sparing a thought for them and not abusing them would be nice.

Ponoka7 · 27/03/2020 09:04

@stuckinthemiddlewithtwats, this was across the media, nit just FB. Every main news channel stopped programmes and took part.

damnitnotlistening · 27/03/2020 09:23

@stuckinthemiddlewithtwats
Respectfully..... NHS workers aren’t looking for gratitude or even a clap, they are asking for us to abide by the rules. Let’s all stay in and stay safe. 👍🏼

suziesue45 · 27/03/2020 09:39

I work for the NHS, I went out and clapped my colleagues throughout the NHS, Police, Fire Brigade, Supermarket workers, Bus drivers etc. Etc. I feel everyone who has to work to help keep the UK running in this horrible crisis deserves more than just a clap, I fully appreciate every single one of them.

slipperywhensparticus · 27/03/2020 09:40

People are bitching about the clapping so much I'm not bothering anymore

Luc1nda · 27/03/2020 09:44

Am I the only one who thinks that "the clap" is a very unfortunate choice of words?

I can't stand it. It's even worse than when people say, "lets have a cheers". FFS.

AgentProvocateur · 27/03/2020 09:50

Organise a clap for other workers if you feel so strongly about it. And stop being so churlish.
