...Than Boris. I'd be happier with him in charge he's more of a statesman and seems intelligent. AIBU?

His impressive. I'm not a Tory but his more measured and sensible.
Have to see how it pans out. I don't understand self employed rules etc : it sounds complicated.

HalleLouja · 26/03/2020 17:44

To be fair Boris isn’t much competition. But Rishi is great. Very calm and authoritative.

HalleLouja · 26/03/2020 17:45

It was quite interesting that he is going to change the tax rules from Self Employed after this has subsided.

Whiskeywithwater · 26/03/2020 17:45

I literally just said to my DD - that’s our next PM (I hope!) - he makes me feel like the grown ups are in charge.

FFSFFSFFS · 26/03/2020 17:46

I think his performance has been remarkable. His presentation is impressive but he is also clearly across the detail and has thought about in a considered way.

BJ is simply no comparison.

I suspect he will be a future PM. Boris has been okay - but has not excelled

MediocreOmens · 26/03/2020 17:46

His budget speech made me cringe, just constantly repeating “we are getting it done” over and over. But then I would rather no Tory was PM Grin

HoneysuckIejasmine · 26/03/2020 17:48

I mean, I'd rather not-a-Tory, but he does seem very competent.

ilovesooty · 26/03/2020 17:49

I think Johnson may live to regret promoting him.

Yes, he comes over well on TV. No reason to suppose he isn't capable in his role. I don't care for his background, politics and apparent beliefs though.

PutColinInTheCorner · 26/03/2020 17:49

He was a good orator when he stood in for Boris a couple of times pre election. I remember wondering who he was because he spoke so well. That said, his voting record is, well, unsurprising.

JaneTheVirgin · 26/03/2020 18:01

What part of what Boris has done is 'okay'?! He has been an absolute nightmare who's entire Covid plan was kill off the older people for herd immunity!

InanOcadoQueue · 26/03/2020 18:19

Yes. I wondered if the reason he wasn't here today was because standing next to Rishi Sunak makes him look incompetent. I think Sunak is better than Sajid Javid too. I'm no Tory either. But would rather have Rishi than Boris, since we're stuck with them.

I agree Whiskeywithwater

I reckon he's the next leader and PM myself.

demelzaaa · 26/03/2020 18:39

What the fuck is with the Tory tongue-bath on here?

Luzina · 26/03/2020 18:42

Ummm no. His speech this afternoon reminded me of first year uni students earnestly reading a presentation out from a script

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 26/03/2020 18:43

I'm not a Tory supporter, but I have a lot of time for Rishi, respect what and how he says it, and would feel comfortable with him as PM.

I abhor Boris, but I do think most of his methods on this are good. I don't know how the alternatives would have fared.

Roselilly36 · 26/03/2020 18:44

He’s a better looking Boris IMHO.

Burgerandchipvan · 26/03/2020 18:45

TBF, a pot plant could do better than Boris. It's not hard to make him look like he's completely out of his depth.

doofusmoof · 26/03/2020 18:45

How do chancellor's work? Does the pm need to approve of their measures or are they completely independent?

Mockerswithnoknockers · 26/03/2020 18:51

He's either spectacularly good or else he's still young enough not to be aware of his own limitations. Either way, he's a Future Prime Minister, an office previously occupied by the likes of William Hague, David Miliband, Michael Portillo and John Smith.

Rishi has the job because his predecessor refused to be controlled in this very way.

Mummyshark2019 · 26/03/2020 18:56

Yes he is good. Intelligent man. Calm under pressure.

Bloomburger · 26/03/2020 18:57

E were hat an idiotic thing to say, he did not want to kill off old people, he specifically told them to stay indoors.

TheWordmeister · 26/03/2020 19:00

Definitely - confident, calm and articulate. I think he is outstanding.
