I didn't do anything wrong....did I?

DD desperate to see her friend who lives a few streets away. She made brownies and we dropped them on her doorstep, went back onto the pavement around 12 feet away, DD called her and she came to the door, took the brownies and said thank you.

They then call each other while we're walking home (social distancing all the way but not many people around) and her older sister shouts in the background "her mum let her do that? That was stupid!!!" meaning we shouldn't have brough the brownies round to her house. I couldn't see anything wrong with it. I mean, the postman delivers mail to houses each day. Am I missing something? Or is she worried about eating contaminated food - we washed our hands thoroughly during the process.

OP posts:

PleasePlease you're not a very nice person are you?

I literally do not have to answer to you.

Back off. And quit goading me. I am ignoring you now. Shoo shoo...

You literally keep telling me what to do, while objecting if you think the same us being done to you 😂

No of course you don't have to answer me, but that's kinda how the whole Internet forum thing works, as a rule, back & forth opinions 😉

Instead you produce really nasty posts, instead of communicating. Each to their own I guess!

EarringsandLipstick · 26/03/2020 18:52

Thinking of you Whatevah 💐

chloechloe · 26/03/2020 18:52

I won’t comment on the right or wrong of what the OP did. But I assume that the author of each of the sanctimonious posts on here hasn’t bought or ordered online a single non-essential thing since the lockdown entered into force?

There is an interesting article here about the length of time the virus can survive on surfaces and the amount of particles needed to cause infection:

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/mar/25/how-long-coronavirus-lasts-on-surfaces-packages-groceries

LambriniSocialist · 26/03/2020 18:53

How does one clean their post?

pleasepleasepleasehelp · 26/03/2020 18:53

@TheMotherofAllDilemmas

I am really struggle to believe some people think that taking a child to take brownies to another child is essential.

We will be put in a proper policed lockdown soon with so many idiots taking this so lightly.

Exactly what I said. It's impossible to get it through to SOME people. It's hard to penetrate the skulls of some people.

Whatevah · 26/03/2020 18:54

A family is allowed to go for a walk in their neighbourhood. That is allowed. Fact.

EarringsandLipstick · 26/03/2020 18:54

It's hard to penetrate the skulls of some people.

So true, please so true 🤣

Pishposhpashy · 26/03/2020 18:54

but would you rather take no risk?

Speaking as someone with 3 suicide attempts behind them from when my OCD was bad, no I wouldn't, I would rather keep my risk low whilst still being able to find joy in the confines of what I am allowed to do. Statistically, I am more at risk of another suicide attempt than covid 19.

GreytExpectations · 26/03/2020 18:54

Says who exactly? confused

Who says you can't?

Cissyandflora · 26/03/2020 18:56

@chloe no I have not bought or ordered one single non essential item since this started. I feel guilty enough getting my Ocado groceries delivered but I’m just doing the most sensible thing for my children. Very basic food. If we get through it we can have non essential again. But couldn’t justify it now.

Eckhart · 26/03/2020 18:56

If someone is self isolating, aren't we told to leave food on their doorstep? I did this for a friend today. Is that wrong now?

DesLynamsMoustache · 26/03/2020 18:57

The best thing about these threads is all the armchair scientists Grin Putting that GCSE from 1987 to good use, Karen, well done.

Cissyandflora · 26/03/2020 18:57

@Eckhart was it in a wrapper that could be thrown away? Or made with your own sweet hands?

Ethelfleda · 26/03/2020 18:58

Let’s say that the risk of passing the virus on by touching something that someone else was immediately about to touch was 0.001%. Low, right?
Now let’s say that, in one form or another, 100,000 people in the UK engaged in similar behaviour (bearing in mind this is roughly only 0.15% of the population so it is extremely likely) then you have at least one household infected.
This has two knock on effects:

  1. People in household all getting ill and maybe needing to use up desperately scant NHS resources in 2 week’s time
  2. The risk of passing the virus exponentially grows because the more people who have it, the more it spreads.

Now let’s say that 5% of the population took a similarly low risk activity... (plausible after reading MN) that equates to 35 households... etc etc

Just avoid unnecessary risk! It’s really that simple!

HyacynthBucket · 26/03/2020 18:59

Stay at Home OP. STAY AT HOME. What do you find difficult to comprehend about that? And in case you missed it, the reason is to stop the spread of the virus, save many lives and save the NHS. Got it now?

Jaxhog · 26/03/2020 18:59

If you still aren't convinced take a look at the figures below. Our deaths have increased today by 25%. In one day. If we don't get this lockdown right, in 10-12 days we will be where Italy is right now, with over 8000 dead.

Ethelfleda · 26/03/2020 19:01

Who says you can't?

For the love of god. You really aren’t getting this are you? In the absence of a SPECIFIC rule, just avoid the risk. Surely it’s simple??

eaglejulesk · 26/03/2020 19:01

And yes the postman delivers mail, but most people I've spoken to are quarantining or cleaning their post

Is this for real?? Some people need to get a hobby.

GreytExpectations · 26/03/2020 19:02

Stay at Home OP. STAY AT HOME. What do you find difficult to comprehend about that?

YOU ARE ALLOWED OUT FOR DAILY EXERCISE

Ethelfleda · 26/03/2020 19:02

Jaxhog so true - and I would wager that is exactly where we will end up if people don’t start doing as they’re told.

pleasepleasepleasehelp · 26/03/2020 19:02

@DesLynamsMoustache

The best thing about these threads is all the armchair scientists grin Putting that GCSE from 1987 to good use, Karen, well done.

Yep it would take someone with ONE GCSE to think what the OP did was OK.

I agree with you totally. Smile Ludicrous armchair scientists thinking it's OK.

Ethelfleda · 26/03/2020 19:03

YOU ARE ALLOWED OUT FOR DAILY EXERCISE

TOUCHING AN OBJECT AND GIVING IT TO SOMEONE ELSE IS NOT EXERCISE

GreytExpectations · 26/03/2020 19:03

You really aren’t getting this are you?

Oh I get it perfectly. I just disagree with you, as I have said numerous times the guidelines have been followed. You clearly don't get that

Cissyandflora · 26/03/2020 19:03

Can we just try to limit all risk? Stay home. Keep family home. Exercise in your own home. Cook and eat whatever you can prepare yourself. Do not visit others. Do not go out for fresh air even. I know we were told you can go out once a day but it’s safer for everyone If you don’t do that. I can’t understand why people can’t adhere. Just think for yourselves and then let’s hope we get through this. I’m extremely worried. It’s all so bleak but what I can do now is protect myself and my family to the best of my ability. That means staying inside.

pleasepleasepleasehelp · 26/03/2020 19:03

@Ethelfleda

Nope, they REALLY are not getting it. God help us all!
