Can my children go out for another walk today?

I’m aware it’s episode of exercise today. I have not been out today.

Basically my partner took dc and the dog out this morning before he went to work - he has to go to work. I was waiting in for a delivery so couldn’t go.

Going a little crazy and thinking of going out for a walk myself but that means two walks for dc today!

I live in a rural area. Hardly anyone around. Probably wouldn’t meet anyone and plenty of open space to socially distance anyway.

Aibu to take them out for another walk?

"Who is going to see them though if the field is empty??"

I meant here where I am.

No restrictions on going outside for walk/jog/bike ride atm

DowntownAbby · 26/03/2020 19:37

Good to see that North Yorks police are now putting their drone division to use finding the Covidiots out and about ignoring the instructions, even in the open countryside. Including the utter morons going out in cars to then walk in other places.

No.

thecatschampagne · 26/03/2020 19:40

@Clymene I am doing those as well, but I enjoy those classes so much because it gets me out of the office and into a space where nothing matters for 45 minutes.

And now DH and I are literally living in our offices I want to get out and away from my pretty stressful job for 40 minutes without people judging me because they think they own walking. I'd be interested to hear how many of the people bitching about 'new' walkers (wtf anyway, it's not like these people decided to grow new legs we've always walked) are in households where two professionals are working their normal City hours in a one bedroom flat.

SparklySeal · 26/03/2020 19:43

No.
cos I cant go out.
But I would if I could

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 26/03/2020 19:43

Including the utter morons going out in cars to then walk in other places.

Glad to see that, DowntownAbby

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 26/03/2020 19:45

Where is the info regarding the virus living as an aerosol please?

Pentium85 · 26/03/2020 19:47

Queue some really serious response on here OP.

I live in a rural area, utterly rural. The fields surrounding my home are totally empty.

I am going for upwards of 5 walks a day because I won't come into contact with anyone.

Just use common sense

mooboy · 26/03/2020 19:54

Jesus wept the police are using drones to catch people walking in rural areas - is that what we've come to? The police have let the power go to their heads - this should worry us.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 26/03/2020 19:55

Has it occurred to anyone that maybe the utter morons going out in cars to then walk in other places also want to walk safely, away from hordes of people still fucking picnicking en masse?

What are we saying that if you live in a high rise flat and want to exercise it’s tough shit that you have to do it with all the other peasant stock in the now busy parks/streets available to you? Must be great to be well off, in your farmhouse with land and now’t for miles on end. I’m not suggesting that we all get in our cars and drive to the coast like last weekend but ffs, have a little care and compassion.

I’m alright Jack! I live in a naice little market town. No crowding. Nice garden. Decent neighbours. Not everyone is as lucky

diddl · 26/03/2020 20:05

" police are using drones to catch people walking in rural areas"

Is it areas that people will have driven to?

tegucigalpa13 · 26/03/2020 20:07

Well said @TheLadyAnneNeville

The rule on one form of exercise a day is a classic example of rushed, ill thought out and badly drafted regulations. This will make it impossible to enforce.

DowntownAbby · 26/03/2020 20:09

Well it clearly hasn't occurred to a lot of people that we're in the middle of a deadly, global pandemic and maybe, just maybe, we can't just do whatever we like, for a few weeks.

It takes a very special kind of person to revel in this kind of surveillance and situation, it really does.

I love the detail...did they consult you directly about who to look for? I mean...it's all just like you said Grin.

And yet...we can still go out and exercise. And take walks in the sunshine. With people we love. Those things can still happen.

Which is nice Grin

tegucigalpa13 · 26/03/2020 20:16

@Downton

Well it clearly hasn't occurred to a lot of people that we're in the middle of a deadly, global pandemic and maybe, just maybe, we can't just do whatever we like, for a few weeks

I think that is unfair. I am not advocating people heading en masse for tourist hot spots, but If people living in busy areas drive to a REMOTE place to exercise they MINIMISE their exposure to other people and MINIMISE their risk of contacting the virus. Forcing people in the inner cities to exercise around their homes INCREASES their risks.

Or am I missing something?

Noooblerooble · 26/03/2020 20:16

MN has gone mad.

I agree with people saying go. The rules are in place to urgently stop people mixing. If you live in a city or a town with more limited outdoor spaces it is crucial you just go out once a day. Stepping outside your house onto farmland where you either won't meet anyone or you will pass a few people at 2-3m distance minimum is doing no harm at all. Ok don't post left right and centre you're going to do it but the virus isn't some invisible ninja that can jump miles through the air.

What matters far more is only going out to shops etc for essential supplies, keeping your distance from others and washing your hands really thoroughly. Plus staying in if you get ill. All things I presume the op is doing.

I have seen people on here in the last few days asking if they can walk rurally and saying they have significant mental or physical health problems which mean they're at risk if they can't do that and they're being sworn at and told they're killing people. Those posters writing that here are an utter disgrace. Save your anger for the idiots having barbecues and mixing in groups etc. Those are the people putting lives at risk.

Thekindofwindowsfaceslookinat · 26/03/2020 20:18

Or am I missing something?

Only the astonishing lack of basic common sense, reasoning powers and critical thinking of a vocal handful.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/03/2020 20:26

It's not fair, but what earthly use is served by people constrained because they live in cities being envious of those who don't and who can walk safely from their door without getting close to people, and insisting they be constrained too?

TheLadyAnneNeville · 26/03/2020 20:28

Oh bollocks to this! I’m off. What a nasty load of self satisfied “fuck the plebs living in their terraced streets all fighting over a 20 meter squared patch of grass!” there are on this forum.

Christ😒

1forsorrow · 26/03/2020 20:54

cardibach People with dogs don’t get to do two walks. The dog walk and their exercise are the same walk. It doesn't say that though, it gives them as two separate reasons for being out. If the exercise and the dog walk were the same thing surely they would say, "If your dog needs a walk that is your exercise for the day." If you have a link that says the dog walk has to be part of your exercise for the day can you post it. As usual with this situation nothing seems clear.

Does it apply to essential shopping as well? So if you go out shopping that is your exercise for the day and the dog can't have a walk?

1forsorrow · 26/03/2020 21:00

I live in a coastal town, the Chief Constable has said we can't drive somewhere for a walk. My husband is disabled, he is in constant pain but he walks a little every day to keep mobile and help his health. We live on a hill, half way up and it is steep. He can't walk here. We normally drive about 1 mile to a quiet beach and he walks along the prom which is flat and has benches at regular intervals where he can take a break. He is now totally unable to walk. At the end of this I don't know how much he will have deteriorated. With no holiday makers the beach will be deserted but no exceptions. It is all so negative.

Indeed. There'll be some hasty name changes before this is over I should think because some posters ought to cringing themselves inside out at how deeply unpleasant and bizarrely they've behaved over this.

tegucigalpa13 · 26/03/2020 21:05

the Chief Constable has said we can't drive somewhere for a walk

He can say that. But even in this current state of emergency he can only enforce the law as it stands. Since the law does not say that it is illegal for people in your circumstances to drive somewhere to take a walk he is wrong.

mooboy · 26/03/2020 21:05

@1forsorrow I think you should continue to drive a mile to a flatter spot - it is essential to your dh's health.

diddl · 26/03/2020 21:08

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/03/26/can-walk-dog-exercise-lockdown/

Telegraph link.

One walk a day per person for exercise.

Presumably shopping doesn't count as this & is allowed as well.
