YABU - Bring on the butter
YANBU - Butter? On a scone?? I’ve never heard of such madness!

Can’t stand butter so it’s a definite no!

puds11 · 25/03/2020 20:35

Yass otherwise it’s just dry!

Thankssomuch · 25/03/2020 20:36

Yes to butter. Obviously. Honestly, you people....

happymummy12345 · 25/03/2020 20:36

Butter and strawberry jam is the only way. Not cream, hate it.

Oilyoilyoilgob · 25/03/2020 20:36

Yes to butter! Can’t trust anyone that’s says no 👀

Sparkle733 · 25/03/2020 20:38

Jam and cream only

NoButter · 25/03/2020 20:38

I should add this in a cream and jam situation. Nobody is suggesting one should consume a bare, dry scone... yeuch

Yes, absolutely yes to butter. And jam and cream if you have any.

helgahelga · 25/03/2020 20:38

@NoButter

A scone without butter is batshit. Do you have toast without it too? And teacakes?

Weird. Confused

Oh and YABU obviously. Grin

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 25/03/2020 20:39

Butter? Wtaf?

Clotted cream. Then jam. NO BUTTER.

Makeitgoaway · 25/03/2020 20:39

Butter or cream but not both. Butter is best

CountFosco · 25/03/2020 20:39

With clotted cream no. But otherwise yes, jam and butter delicious, and cheese scones and lashings of butter? Heaven!

KipperTheFrog · 25/03/2020 20:40

Butter, then jam, then a dollop of clotted cream

Duchessofblandings · 25/03/2020 20:40

Depends. Cheese scones, definitely. Plain, possibly. Fruit with jam and/or cream, yuk.

BestStressed · 25/03/2020 20:40

Butter belongs in a cake where it cannot he tasted. It does not belong on bread , toast crumpets or anything else! .

Urgh drip feed!

Well you should really have put this in the OP!!!!! Hmm

Of course if there is cream and jam, you don't have butter too.

But that's not what you first asked.

SwimForBrighterDays · 25/03/2020 20:41

Either loads of butter on its own

Or

No butter, loads of cream and jam.

RingaRosie · 25/03/2020 20:41

One or the other, I’d say. Butter & jam or cream & jam, depending on what you’ve got. I wouldn’t do butter & cream together.

Justmuddlingalong · 25/03/2020 20:41

So your question is "should I butter a scone that is going to have cream and jam on it?"
If that's the case, your AIBU will be all to cock.

TrainspottingWelsh · 25/03/2020 20:41

Go nc with any family member that suggests butter is optional.

woodencoffeetable · 25/03/2020 20:41

if you can't get clotted cream (which is anywhere but uk) then butter will do

DramaAlpaca · 25/03/2020 20:41

Butter first. Then jam. Then a dollop of cream if available. But always butter.

starsinyourpies · 25/03/2020 20:42

WTF? Jam and cream only!!!

Coffeeandnutrients · 25/03/2020 20:42

Allllways butter.

Butter, jam then cream. Now I want one!

Shoppingwithmother · 25/03/2020 20:42

I wouldn’t have butter AND cream. Acceptable combinations are:
Jam and cream
Butter and Jam
Butter only
Jam only is also ok if pushed

Those are in order of preference. Butter, jam and cream? No.
