YABU - Bring on the butter
YANBU - Butter? On a scone?? I’ve never heard of such madness!

My preference:
Option 1 - Warm scone, lots of proper butter, all melty, nothing else
Option 2 - Cold scone, strawberry jam, clotted cream on top
Obviously either option should be accompanied by tea made in a teapot with a tea cosy to keep it hot, served in a china cup or mug.

No butter. Butter with jam is bloody awful. And butter, cream AND jam - blergh.

Either loads of butter on its own Or No butter, loads of cream and jam

This, obviously ^

eaglejulesk · 26/03/2020 02:55

Butter by itself, or jam and cream, no butter

LangSpartacusCleg · 26/03/2020 05:03

I love butter! But not when there is cream.

Scone, Raspberry Jam, Clotted Cream

Done.

AgentProvocateur · 26/03/2020 05:15

Butter OR cream and jam, surely?

Disclaimer - I don’t like scones Grin

RingaRosie · 26/03/2020 09:53

That sounds delish, FF99 😋

Makeitgoaway · 26/03/2020 09:56

Mmmm. DS1 is filling the time by developing a baking habit. I'm going to steer him towards scones. No cream in so it will have to be butter and jam.

angelopal · 26/03/2020 09:58

Should be butter and jam. No cream. Don't understand putting cream on scones.

TeacupDrama · 26/03/2020 10:01

everyone should have the scone the way they like

borntobequiet · 26/03/2020 10:02

Cream and butter is too much. Split scone, thick layer of clotted cream, good dollop of jam, put top back on, eat.

GatoFofo · 26/03/2020 10:02

No butter with jam & cream 🤮

Inforthelonghaul · 26/03/2020 10:03

Everything is better with butter!

thespanishlady77 · 26/03/2020 10:06

Definite yes from me.mmmm

wonkytonkwoman · 26/03/2020 10:07

Always the butter, OP. Always.

Quickquestion2020 · 26/03/2020 10:22

I love a bare dry scone! A cheese or plain one. Never fruit!

Also, jam then cream. How does anyone spread jam over cream? I just dont understand.

Tootletum · 26/03/2020 10:23

God no. Sacrilege mixing butter and cream.

Tootletum · 26/03/2020 10:27

@Quickquestion2020 ah now this is all about the cream. Clotted cream should go in first as the jam can spread on top like it would on butter. Double cream must go on after the jam otherwise it's a mess!

Innitogether · 26/03/2020 10:31

Definitely not butter with jam and cream. Heathens.

DappledThings · 26/03/2020 10:40

Sacrilege mixing butter and cream

They aren't mixed. Butter first, then jam, then cream in 3 layers. I can't fathom anything where you are spreading a topping without butter first. Butter is the primer!

Some people apparently don't put butter on toast when they are having peanut butter, just put peanut butter onto the dry toast. Horrors!

luckylavender · 26/03/2020 10:44

Butter & Jam obviously - can't stand cream. Sometimes just butter.

Stickybeaksid · 26/03/2020 10:55

Butter jam and cream. There is no other way. I am a certified scone expert with a certificate from the internet so I decree this to be the only way

SerenDippitty · 26/03/2020 10:58

Jam and cream only.

Pollydron · 26/03/2020 10:58

With butter if you’re eating “skons”. Jam and cream only if you’re having “scohnes”.

Redcrayons · 26/03/2020 10:59

No butter
Thin sliver of jam
As much cream as you can get on there. This amount is dependent on whether you're in public or at home.

Duchessofblandings · 26/03/2020 11:09

Lemon curd? Radical.

Want some lemon curd now. Can’t go and buy some 😫
