There is a bloke in a barge at the bottom of my garden.

Well not technically IN my garden, but close enough to see in my living room window! It’s annoying as they moore up all the time now till the end of summer. Some even wave at me when I’m sat on the couch 🙄 his little log burner must be going as puffs of smoke are coming out of the chimney.

I’m jealous of his freedom right now or should he be moored up some where staying put? But definitely not at the bottom of my garden!

Is He BU for chugging around the county side

Or is he NBU? As technically he isn’t walking about anywhere.

Is it your private mooring or.just an river that runs by the back of your house

Lordfrontpaw · 25/03/2020 18:58

Is he self isolating down there?

Devlesko · 25/03/2020 18:59

I think he's fine, he's at home. Grin
I have lots of family travelling and on sites atm, they don't prove anymore risk than anyone else. They can still go to the supermarket and exercise like anyone else.
If he's looking in though close your curtains or blinds.

YeahWhatevver · 25/03/2020 19:02

I can see how this would be really annoying but it's that old problem of its not your river (or road as is often the more common issue)

I'm sure he's really not interested at all in your comings or goings. Shame of the social distancing, might be ideal to pop down, say hi and get to know him, would make the "intrusion" probably feel a little less apparent if you were on more friendly (rather than stranger) terms.

emilybrontescorsett · 25/03/2020 19:02

I know it won't stop him seeing in now, but can you grow bushes/climbing plants to block his view. Or buy a screen that you can move to block him out. One with fake leaves on that is about 6 feet high.

DysonFury · 25/03/2020 19:03

Who owns the mooring OP, You? (And you are paying the canal and river trust for this) or is it a free mooring site. Either way, remove head sphincter and breathe, jealousy stinks.

Beebie2 · 25/03/2020 19:05

@Knittedfairies why does that guidance make him unreasonable?

Ironfloor269 · 25/03/2020 19:06

......and his name is Wiggly Woo...

Wannabangbang · 25/03/2020 19:08

Maybe he lives on it

Ponoka7 · 25/03/2020 19:14

Did the river/canal appear after you bought the house? Unfortunately it's the price of living on a public space. Although he shouldn't be looking into your window.

heartonastring · 25/03/2020 19:15

haha @Ironfloor269 that's exactly what I was thinking...

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 25/03/2020 19:17

Ponoka7 - was just about to post along similar lines!

Bohomie · 25/03/2020 19:17

Unfortunately, even if there are rules in place for him to stay put he will still have to move on after so many days to get water and pump out. The moorings near your house are likely to be en route to where he needs to be for those services.

Bluntness100 · 25/03/2020 19:17

This is like complaining someone parked in front of your house, unless you own the mooring.

If he’s alone and not getting out his barge, he’s doing no harm to anyone.

viques · 25/03/2020 19:17

Is he Korean?

(Old thread reference)

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/03/2020 19:19

Lucky you having a river.

AngryPrincess · 25/03/2020 19:23

Yeah, I think he’s probably using the barge to get a sneaky holiday. He shouldn’t have moved his barge from when lockdown was announced.

Cherrysoup · 25/03/2020 19:23

Boat owners have been told to only move for essentials eg fuel/food.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 25/03/2020 19:23

Is he Korean?

One of my favourite ever threads.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 25/03/2020 19:25

Go I your garden and fake a coughing fit - he may move on Grin

flossyflorenceflounces · 25/03/2020 19:28

Do you own the mooring?

Hingeandbracket · 25/03/2020 19:30

YABU like 99% of people for calling a Narrowboat a Barge.

TrashKitten10 · 25/03/2020 19:33

@Ironfloor269 I'm howling, best comment ever.

DonttouchthatLarry · 25/03/2020 19:34

Well said Hingeandbracket
