To report people for not isolating?

My garden backs into a 2 story block of flats. Very nice tenants never had any trouble but not one of them understands self isolating. All the tenants seem to be very close as they have all lived there for a long time. They are all currently outside sat on picnic benches, very close together. A mix of 70+ Year olds and then people who have invited grandchildren over. I know this doesn’t affect me directly but out NHS can not take anymore strain from the stupidity of others. Is there anyone we can report this to? I don’t want to clog up emergency lines obviously.

I would love to report my ndn's. The day before lockdown I was carrying my 11mo back to our house, waiting for Dh to unlock the door and ndn's also arriving home caught up with us (they are strangers we've not lived here a month yet), had been coughing (so I was walking quicker to keep away) and started asking pointless questions then one of them leaned right in towards my baby (I was physically cornered or would have moved away) to say how cute he is. Yes he is adorable but piss off with your cough!! They're always out and about coughing or having 'friend's come to their door, getting lifts etc. Seems the rules apply to everyone but them Angry

@excitedforbaby9 Have a look at your police website and see if they have an online chat facility. West Midlands police do, but not sure of other areas.

Thanks for the suggestion, i used the online chat feature for my local police and they responded immediately saying that they would add this particular block of flats to their surveillance route. They also advised me not to use my garden IF they are within 2 mtrs of us. Very helpful i didn’t know about the chat feature.

Do report but I would like to remind people to use common sense when snooping on their neighbours. A friend dropped off her child today because she needed to go to have a medical procedure done and had no one else at home (single parent). She called social services and they said it was ok for her to bring her to stay with us until she was able to take care of her herself. The people opposite were watching her from the window when she arrived and talking, she was visibly likely to require medical attention so I guess they understood what was happening. The thought crossed my mind and that they might try to report us but we haven’t had a visit from the police so I guess they decided not to.

And for every person breaking the rules (which aren't law yet anyway, so it's really frightening you want police to act like they don't need to follow any rules), there is someone going in the other direction and doing more than they need to, so it cancels out.

Plus there's another data model which predicts 50% of the population has already had it, and if that's the case, the peak is going to be much lower than we thought anyway.

If people don't comply, then that's not lockdown. Hmm

Let's hope the data model is right, but it's it a risk worth taking? Not in my opinion.

"won't be breached at a national level" - that means

  1. after drafting 250k volunteers, for whom there isn't enough PPE as there isn't enough for regular NHS staff
  2. after reclaiming the Excel centre to hold 4000 beds
  • then the national limit won't be breached but local limits will. Not much good if you need an ICU bed in Lewisham for there to be capacity in Chester.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable when the local hospitals ICU’s are full. They can’t take anymore and we’re not even at the worst yet. I’m glad i reported them but i wasn’t snooping, you can’t miss the garden from my house 😂

I forgot to update to say they literally ended up having a bbq. So many people. How is that self isolating? 😩 honestly people are stupid

There are many people who need their child to be looked after but the rules are that households should not mix. If you can look after this child for a friend, there is no reason why hundreds of thousands of others can't take their child to be looked after by someone.

Social Services should have ensured the government rules were being adhered to protect both the child and you.

Can you imagine phoning the police to say an anonymous stranger suggested it was OK not to do the isolation thing. No, I don't know where they are. I mean, not even which country, but it's likely to be somewhere in the UK, but you know, you should do something about it! Grin

Nope, just think the OP should remove the stick that they've clearly got stuck up their backside. Im not sure what it is about Mumsnet. There have been so many posts about 'reporting' people. Pubs with curtains closed, must be having a lock in lets report them, get them shut down and ruin someone's livliehood. Joggers and dog walkers doing absolutely nothing wrong, but we must report them because they have dared to step outside of their homes. Neighbours talking over garden fences, lets report them as well.

I can honestly say I've not taken a blind bit of notice what my neighbours have been doing since the lockdown.

You can see who the teachers pets were in school thats for sure! I know its boring being in lockdown but seriously, find something more constructive to do with your time than reporting people for the sake of it. This won't last forever, and when its over I doubt they'll forget that someone with no life reported them for the sake of it!

I'm slightly unsure whether this is an issue or not. Our neighbours either side are both relatives and have been completely ignoring the social distancing from the get go, their kids still playing together out in the street going between houses, all stood out chatting of an evening, both mixed families all in each others gardens, friends and relatives coming round.

Been leaving their toys on our driveway which we don't want to touch, and even had their kids fiddling with our letterbox yesterday.

But this afternoon my partner was out clearing the garden so our son can get some fresh air. He looked up and the MUM was on the trampoline bouncing silently just nosing over into our garden for absolutely no reason. The trampoline is pushed right up against our fence aswell and then 10 minutes later the kids all jump on and start shouting over our garden into the relatives on the other side. Just seems so strange to me.

Really making me anxious and just not want to go out in the garden, we have no privacy but they're just making it so much more difficult for us to have any enjoyment while we are in lockdown.

I have a couple of neighbour who are in their 70 and their opinion was 'we've had our lives and it's not going to stop us going out' one was going to the pub every day until they shut them.

I think if they have that attitude they should NOT get medical help. I think this about all the idiots who have BBQs, friends over for drinks, parties, etc.

I don't care what age you are stay inside, stay away from others and stay safe.

Rant over.

My daughter is going to work every day to look after other people's kids. So the pp looking after someone's child while they get medical attention would be a ridiculous thing to report to the police.

What's the matter with some people? The govt advice has made it clear that people can visit those who need care. This falls into the same category.
