Easter Bank holidays should be flexible or postponed

What’s the point of bank holidays in the current environment. They should be postponed until the summer. At best they don’t mean anything, Easter Sunday is the religious day if you want to celebrate. At worst, they will be depressing and encourage people to mingle! Let’s start a petition to move them!!

To most key workers bank holidays don't mean anything, I don't know anyone who works in retail or healthcare who gets bank holidays off at the best of times; the exception is teachers, who usually will be planning during them anyway. A lot of people are home from work so it makes no odds, what would it achieve?

This supposed lockdown is looking likely to end at the easter weekend

I have no doubt at all that it will be extended by at least a week to keep us indoors during the holidays.

Once the kids are supposed to go back to school we may see some relaxation of the restrictions depending on what's going on with the number of cases - impossible to predict. Could be like Italy or Spain, might not.

Christmas is on 25 December every year, no matter what day of the week that is. Every year the day of the week on which Christmas falls changes. Easter has to be on a Sunday and therefore the date has to change every year...

But it is fixed, just in a different way. You can't just use any Sunday for it.

"In 325 CE, the Council of Nicaea established that Easter would be held on the first Sunday after the first Full Moon occurring on or after the vernal equinox. (*) From that point forward, the Easter date depended on the ecclesiastical approximation of March 21 for the vernal equinox."

Seriously? I'm still working every day from home. We have also been told to book our leave before June because they don't want everyone holding their leave. I'm going to have to take mine at home iwth the kids. That's how it is.

Still working everyday here. We only get bank holidays off if we actually book them as part of our holiday entitlement.

School holidays are my only annual leave and I’d like a couple of days to stay home and rest.
