But I’m not talking about people driving miles to go to the beach or otherwise taking the piss JustInCase! I’m taking about people in the circumstances you mention, which includes us and most of the families around us (middle of London, families in flats, tiny or no gardens). I’m taking my children for a walk every day, just round the back streets, stepping into the (empty) road to avoid other people if necessary. We see other families doing the same, just trying to follow the rules and stay sane. But for some people, that is still not enough! Like I say, my local Nextdoor is full of people frothing that NO ONE should be allowed out, even under the circumstances I’ve described.

I honestly fell like I’m missing some underlying aspect of social communication here. Why is the government saying exercise within certain limitations is fine if doing it and sticking to those limitations still makes one an entitled and selfish CF? I don’t want to be one. I’ve explained before about having two young DCs (one with ASD and ADHD) in a smallish flat, with DH trying to work full time from home in the same space, and me just trying to keep everyone sane and healthy. It’s causing me genuine distress to not know whether doing this is making me one anyway.

Completely agree. It wasn’t long ago that we were all talking about being kind. I do wonder why people are so concerned about what everyone else is doing. If they are being as virtuous as they say and not leaving the house they won’t be affected anyway.

I’ve mentioned this on here before, but an acquaintances’ meltdown on FB the other day about the situation on the tube in London was just mortifying. She had no understanding or empathy that many of those people were travelling to work and had no other option and were not being reckless or stupid. I have no idea why the situation offended her so much as she is a sahm from a northern village and unlikely to come into contact with any of these people.

I should also point out that I feel very embarrassed as I used the name Karen as a pseudonym for the lady above. I used it as I don’t know one in real life, but now I’m wondering if something had sunk in. Genuine apologies to anyone I offended, from now on I will only use real names as it is less risky.

And I don’t think that being outside is wrong or something to be judged or monitored. I think that mental health is as important as physical and if people are taking steps to maintain the acceptable distance they should of course be able to spend time outdoors.

*My local area is inundated with mouth frothers, such a weird herd mentality: spying on strangers, posting pics and videos of them online.
These same creepy spies are out and about too but their trip is more valid than the trips of strangers or of people they don't like.
Spiteful people, they got the referendum result they wanted, got their loveable posh buffoon into power and now think they will be entitled to make citizens arrests and command people back into their homes.

It's this. The wouldn't be surprised if the virus was engineered by exactly this type. We made a big, big mistake thinking the Nazis lost the war*

I felt sympathy for you living in such a bizarrely intrusive place until you went into full on political rant ending in the inevitable Nazi comparison. .

Frightening to see how gleefully eager some people are to report on their neighbours who are not doing EXACTLY as the government say.

Re vaccinations, it seems like most posters here will be more than happy to get the covid shot the minute it is ready. They also seem like they would be pleased for it to be mandatory for everyone.

But where to draw the line? Would you accept a mandatory chicken pox vaccine for your children? How about mandatory chemical contraception for teens?

Interesting times...

How about mandatory carrying of iPhones for contact tracing/social distancing purposes?

I don't have an IPhone (or any other "smart phone) just an ordinary brick text /call only.

mooboy · 26/03/2020 13:42

Mrsfrumble you should take your kids out for exercise and to maintain your mental health - I used to live in a flat in london with no garden and two kids under 3 - it was very hard at times, nevermind having to stay in all the time.

I have to say, ALL of the people I’ve unfollowed recently after getting sick of their screaming abuse at people for daring to go for a walk have been die-hard Remainers. Now that may just be because they were already the only people I followed on Facebook, but the stasi mentality is definitely not exclusively a pro-Brexit trait. There’s a fairly strong correlation between thinking you know best and everyone else is stupid and needs to be told, and the typical progressive left-wing mindset.

@trappedsincesundaymorn

What if you get given a free one by the government? Remember how important contact tracing is!

I wouldn't take it. If some one want's to contact me then they can ring or text I'd rather not be "traced".
