Just that.. Seems like the "Karens", judgy people are out. Maybe it's just the slack time.

I'm permanently raging at both the people who refuse to abide by social distancing and the people who are just seizing on this to be morally superior arseholes. Hint. Shouting "you're killing grandma" at divorced parents for being upset at the idea of not seeing their children for three weeks doesn't put you on the moral high ground.

I can only think that they're compensating for their own guilt about being lax before this week. Probably the same people who recently bought soap for the first time ever in their lives.

Mumof2202022 · 25/03/2020 06:48

Yes, it's awful. Single parents seen to be getting the brunt of it too for daring to not being able to just leave their young kids alone to go shopping etc.

People are being competitive over this whole thing

TheFuckingDogs · 25/03/2020 07:39

Ow it’s so hard. Obviously so many people scared, in unknown territory etc a school mum clearly got the wrong end of the stick on a group WhatsApp and thought I wasn’t taking the situation seriously (I actually closed my business two weeks ago, long before most were doing so) but this woman would never normally misconstrue things/behave like that. I was surprised and a bit pissed off. I then realised the next morning that she has a seriously immune compromised child. So easy to forget all the different worries and anxieties others are facing with this.
Definitely agree there’s a lot of tin pot dictators out there though who have been waiting for this moment to “snitch” on the neighbours their whole lives 😂

Insideimsprinting · 25/03/2020 07:46

so lucky to have my own 'business

May have missed the point of post buts urs the ability to work from home and the business being able to sustain this we there its your own business or you work fir someone elses.
I do not smugly own mine as we can't work from home and our workforce is halfed due to isolation, where cutting hours due to fuel sales slowing down, once they off sick what then?

Sorry may have missed the point.

PotholeParadise · 25/03/2020 07:53

There needs to be more thinking about the "spirit" of the rules, on both sides.

No, you cannot keep going out three times a day for shopping, but on the other hand, rural MNers in the backend of the countryside are not going to kill us all if they walk their dogs twice a day. Rural Britons put up with poor infrastructure (including too few hospitals and inadequate public transport). This one time, some of them are going to have slightly better quality of life than the urbanites, because they can amble around as many times a day as they want without even seeing anyone, never mind infecting someone or catching something from someone.

It doesn't take anything away from us if Simon the Scottish farmer roams the fields, so let's concentrate on what we can personally do to avoid being a vector for covid-19.

The vitriol directed at people for asking questions on some threads is quite frightening to be honest. People need to remember that you don’t alter people’s behaviour by shouting and swearing at them.

TheFuckingDogs · 25/03/2020 08:10

PotholeParadise Yes! So true, people definitely don’t seem to be understanding the difference between how life is atm for those in rural compared to urban communities - and yep it must be more pleasant to be rural right now but they have to put up with downsides most of the time

Karen is not a name.

It is a rank which you earn.

People don't seem to be able to shift perspective at all. I think I saw an MNer accused of selfishness for not being able to do a fortnightly shop. On foot.

At the moment, due to food shortages in supermarkets due to panic-buying, plenty of people with cars can't buy enough for two weeks, and they don't have to carry it. Plus, the supermarkets have brought in three-item limits. I think the people attacking her would have the first to complain if they'd been behind her in a supermarket and she'd taken loads of every item because she was shopping for two weeks.

Oh, and there are people out there who get paid weekly.

RightOnTheEdge · 25/03/2020 08:34

My local Facebook page is full of people posting pictures of other people out shopping or whatever. Massive rants foaming at the mouth about what other people are doing or not doing and frothing at the mouth. Everyone who is out is a moron an idiot and a lot worse and needs shooting. Anyone seen in a shop is a selfish panic buyer.

I am not usually a worrier or anxious but I am starting to feel genuinely anxious about going out when my food runs out and I need to go shopping Sad

I am a single mum with primary age dc, I don't have a car. Supermarket delivery slots are impossible to get. I'll need to take my dc with me.

My work has shut down and I won't be getting any pay until the government wage thing kicks in. Even then it will be tiny because I got paid weekly and my gmh is only 4hrs even though I worked a lot more so I couldn't afford to stockpile or panic buy.

I feel a bit sick and uncomfortable now thinking about going to the shop in my normally friendly and lovely little town.

Falangalangadingdang · 25/03/2020 08:45

I was told that I shouldn't be out in my garden (hanging washing) as my fence "wasn't tall enough to stop the virus" going next door and I was to stand at least 2 metres away from it.

I'm going to sound like a right tin foil hat wearing twat here, but I'm afraid to hang my washing out in case the 'covid germs* stick on it Confused

I think I need to go for a walk around the block, I do don't I. I will point out I've only recently started to reduce my antidepressants.

GuyFawkesDay · 25/03/2020 08:47

Apparently I am supposed to live teach all my classes and my own kids are to have the same given to them.....all using my one personal laptop.

I mean, I'm good, but I'm not sure I can manage that!

CaptainButtock · 25/03/2020 10:05

Your first mistake was letting your Dh post pictures on farcebook.

If they were for the gp’s, why not just WhatsApp them?

HatRack · 25/03/2020 10:28

What's a Karen? Is this a boomer thing?

I've noticed a HELL of a lot of virtue signalling on FB and even some announcements of deaths I suspect to be be fake. Are Karens attention seekers?

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 25/03/2020 10:47

The use of the name karen is a dig at baby boomers as karen is very much a 50’s and early 60’s name.

But there are plenty of twats on both sides of the argument. You have the extreme of to only leave the house when you have used your last tin of beans to but I need to shop every couple of days as my pet needs it’s fresh kale.
As always there is a middle ground but stupid and attention seekers are always the first to take to social media whilst the vast majority are quietly doing their best in these ever changing times.

Doobigetta · 25/03/2020 12:51

I’ve noticed it’s the exact group who were posting #bekind rubbish a couple of weeks ago who are now screaming that everyone is a moron and should be fined/imprisoned/shot for leaving their homes AT ALL. And SO quick to shoot back that THEY ARE ESSENTIAL WORKERS AND HAVE NO CHOICE when anyone mildly says that it’s stressful and depressing and to give everyone a break.

Fleab1te · 25/03/2020 12:54

One thing I've noticed is posters are taking great delight in answering people's genuine questions with the new catchphrase,
"What part of stay home don't you understand??!" Just nasty. What part of "don't be a dick" don't YOU understandHmm

itsgettingweird · 25/03/2020 12:56

Not relevant but since everyone has being using "Karen's" for the know it alls my iPad keeps autocorrecting parents to Karen's 😂😂

Mrsfrumble · 25/03/2020 13:22

Right Fleab1te! Obviously the part of “stay at home” they don’t understand is THE PART THEY ARE ASKING THE FUCKING QUESTION ABOUT! Hence the question!

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 25/03/2020 13:33

I don't know if people are just twats or complete imbeciles.

Some still spectacularly fail to understand that the whole point of everything is to do something about Covid19. So trying to squeeze out everything they can get that hasn't been banned yet is just stupid.

You should prioritise to isolate as much as possible, and minimise your own impact as much as you can. So yes, it's not forbidden to buy clothes and make up. Realistically, is it necessary to crowd the delivery system until all deliveries are banned like they are abroad?

Yes, you should try to stay home as much as possible. Not going out all day or leaving your kids run riot in your cul de sac because Boris didn't tell you you couldn't. Of course, take the kids out, go for a run, but minimise it.

Burning shit in your garden or just making fires there is not even illegal, but when people are fighting for breath, why would you even want to?

The more people act selfishly and stupidly, the longer it will take to go back to normal. China "seems" to improve, but they have been so much stricter and it seems to work. So why don't we do it too?

Eckhart · 25/03/2020 13:37

Right Fleab1te! Obviously the part of “stay at home” they don’t understand is THE PART THEY ARE ASKING THE FUCKING QUESTION ABOUT! Hence the question

I'm not a great fan of swearing. But thank the fucking fuck that I'm not the only fucking person who's fucking sick of fucking 'which part of stay at home don't you understand?'

Fucking hell, that's better.

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 25/03/2020 13:45

which part of stay at home don't you understand?

still a valid question. yes, you can pop to the shop to grab an Easter Egg or some shampoo. No, you shouldn't.

There are shops around here confirming what you are planning to buy and blocking access to "leisure" purchase. Why is that eve necessary?

Eckhart · 25/03/2020 13:47

@Falangalangadingdang People who wear tin foil hats think they're the only sane ones. You're just fine if you can Hmm at yourself!

Let your washing get darked on slightly. Nobody else will be outdoors then, and COVID germs die quite quickly without a human around. The danger of spider willies seems quite insignificant, now. Enjoy your walk :)
