Just that.. Seems like the "Karens", judgy people are out. Maybe it's just the slack time.

OP posts:
AthelstaneTheUnready · 24/03/2020 17:03

I've never known a Karen.

Karen. Karen Karen Karen.

It's quite nice sounding, isn't it.

KaronAVyrus · 24/03/2020 17:04

Agree about the Karen meme. All the Karen’s i know are lovely.

Social media just brings out the worse in people. It’s a curse.

aintnothinbutagstring · 24/03/2020 17:07

It's not illegal to go for a walk, and I won't have anyone tell me otherwise. I'm a 'keyworker' (and a reluctant one at that), I need to take a walk sometimes to preserve my sanity and to help me sleep without waking up and have a panic attack. If any do-gooder takes issue with that, fuck you 🖕 Probably some person who has the privilege of either working from home or doesn't have to work, that doesn't know what it is like to go to work frightened.

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 24/03/2020 17:10

I haven't seen anyone demanding to speak to the management here🤔

nowmorethanever · 24/03/2020 17:13

I was told that I shouldn't be out in my garden (hanging washing) as my fence "wasn't tall enough to stop the virus" going next door and I was to stand at least 2 metres away from it.

I hope you pointed out that if the neighbour stood two metres away from the fence they should be fine Grin

Out of interest, how tall does a fence need to be to stop a virus? I’ve heard of the rabbit-proof fence..... Wink

ilovecakeandwine · 24/03/2020 17:13

You rant away @PlonkyPlink
I can't believe all the stay home posts ffs i needed cat food or my cat will probably try and eat me therefore it's essential .
I also enjoy a walk /jog the irony is I never have time with work / dc but now I can I'm slightly judged for it .
It seams like people can't wait to complain about others that what they are doing is wrong .
Like this weekend it was allowed to go out with your family as long as you kept your distance and most observed this , trouble was everyone had the same idea so there were hundreds out . The lockdown is a good idea but you'll get some say it's not good enough.

Bishybarnybee · 24/03/2020 17:18

It's not always Karen. I think Karen usually makes unreasonable complaints against powerless low paid workers. You also get a range of names like Sandra, Linda, Betty - all popular 60s names - who are in some way selfish, deluded, foolish, irrational or otherwise pathetic and not to be listened to.

This is sexism and ageism, pure and simple. I'm not sure I've ever seen a man's name used like this - but if it was it would be Bob or Nigel, because obviously that generation's opinions are worthless.

If you're a woman using Karen as shorthand for a contemptible human being, be aware you will be middle aged one day.

iwanttoshakesomeppl · 24/03/2020 17:20

I can hear about five teenagers stood on next doors drive way. Why are the parents letting them out to hangout with friends!

Isadora2007 · 24/03/2020 17:23

I can’t help but notice that all the ‘anti-vaccine’ folks have gone very very quiet.

Because the current situation is nothing to do with vaccinations?

JellyfishandShells · 24/03/2020 17:34

I was told that I shouldn't be out in my garden (hanging washing) as my fence "wasn't tall enough to stop the virus" going next door and I was to stand at least 2 metres away from it

Unless you were in your garden coughing in an upwards motion or standing right next to a low fence coughing straight at the bonkers neighbour..........

YouokHun · 24/03/2020 17:36

The oooh look at me I can work from home, and earn some money on my phone, so lucky to have my own 'business' I am soooo lucky people are out in smug force

If you’re talking about MLM people @fromdownwest then I’d say you were spot on. I’ve notice twofold push. Firstly they’re targeting people’s contamination fears to push bogus and high priced products, useless hand sanitizer, anti viral essential oil, “immune boosting” supplements, Kangen water which is “anti viral”; I’ve seen it all this week. It’s so dangerous to give people a false sense of security over their vulnerability. They are also pushing the “work from home opportunity” because they know people are losing jobs and pay - this from an industry where over 99% of sign ups lose money. People don’t need extra debt. They are also doing bogus charity campaigns; sponsor a Body Shop @ Home hand cream to give to NHS staff, the MLM is coining it in while looking charitable and exploiting its reps and generous donators.

These people are not so much smug as fraudulent.

Eckhart · 24/03/2020 17:43

Going against the grain, here, but I used to know a Karen and she was a right cow.

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 24/03/2020 18:09

The main selfish issue for me is people panic buying paracetamol, or trying to stockpile prescription medicines,
I think it is perfectly acceptable for everyone to make sure they have some paracetamol in. If they become unwell and have a high fever they will need to try and bring it down and may not be well enough to go out at that time.

I don't normally have any in as I am loathe to take any meds but did buy 2 packs of 16 for myself and my DH in case we develop a fever which isn't sufficient to warrant hospitalisation.

Surely no-one can stockpile prescription medicines without the involvement of their GP surgery? That is for the surgery staff to tell them their medications aren't due to be prescribed yet.

MorganKitten · 24/03/2020 18:52

I had to go to work today, luckily I can walk there so was like, ok grab food needed, work, home.... I saw three fights, I didn’t bother to get food after seeing how busy. Went to work on a floor by myself, emailed the parents I look after kids for, went home.... everyone was still out.

Mrsfrumble · 24/03/2020 19:35

Yes SarahTancredi, the tube situation is pissing me off too. I know several key workers who get the tube into work. They work for the NHS, they understand the additional risk and would really rather not, but don’t have any choice. And now they have to read endless headlines about how stupid tube passengers are for tying to squeeze themselves on to a vastly reduced service, and if they’re really unlucky they might see themselves in one the photos of packed-out carriages being published everywhere. So the rest of us can feel all smug and superior about being able to stay at home.

IdentifyasTired · 24/03/2020 19:35

On the anti vax note. They haven't gone quiet as such. Some of them believe this pandemic to be a conspiracy to force mandatory vaccinations on the worlds population.
How the hell anyone could ever coordinate such a thing I have no idea. But there we go. The anti vaxxers are still amongst us.
Disclaimer: I am not one of them.

rabbitsnose · 24/03/2020 19:39

Because the current situation is nothing to do with vaccinations?

It's everything to do with vaccinations.

JKScot4 · 24/03/2020 19:43

Guaranteed these smug know it alls won’t be volunteering any services.
I’m volunteering at a food bank doing deliveries, you can be safe without being a pain in the arse.

Littlemissdaredevil · 24/03/2020 19:43

I know someone who was shouted down on Facebook for asking for birthday party activity ideas. The birthday party was mum, dad and DD and was being held in their own home with no other guests Confused

Mrsfrumble · 24/03/2020 22:48

A classic on the local Nextdoor site; apparently we should all only be allowed to shop for food once every 10 days, “like in France” (not sure about that?) There’s only 4 of us at home, and 2 are under 10, but I’d have still have arms like Mr bloody Tickle if I had to carry that much stuff home. I’m guessing the person who posted that lives alone and /or has a car. Also someone who claims not to have left her small studio flat since 9th March and if she can manage it, so can we all apparently. Maybe she’d like to borrow DS, who is 9 and had ADHD, for a few days and see how she feels then?

Cunninglittlevixen · 24/03/2020 23:03

Or you use a trolley or a bike

Mumtobe193 · 25/03/2020 01:12

Lots of smug self righteous twats preaching to everyone at the moment. I know the type. Somebody on my Facebook posted a status giving everyone a good telling off for having a sense of humour something along the lines of ‘So sick of seeing all these ‘funny’ Coronavirus memes on social media, it’s not funny!!!’ I think most people watch the news and are well aware of how serious this is. I think when you’re overwhelmed with fear being able to share a laugh instantly makes you feel better. Of course we should take this seriously but how does it help anyone if you’re an absolute anxious mess? & if being able to laugh in a time which is extremely scary helps alleviate some of that anxiety then why not? As long as said humour is in good taste and doesn’t directly undermine or downplay the situation. I am a key worker, me and my colleagues are not taking the situation lightly at all and to tell the truth we’re all pretty much scared shitless, but we turn up to work with a smile on our faces, take all the necessary measures to keep ourselves and our customers as safe as possible and we just get on with it, we are able to share jokes about our current situation because if we didn’t laugh we would cry! Does not mean we are not taking this seriously.

famousforwrongreason · 25/03/2020 01:37

People are being complete cunts right now. Judge, jury and executioner because our government can't give defined and simple instructions. The majority can't get their head around guidelines and exceptions therein.

My local area is inundated with mouth frothers, such a weird herd mentality: spying on strangers, posting pics and videos of them online.
These same creepy spies are out and about too but their trip is more valid than the trips of strangers or of people they don't like.
Spiteful people, they got the referendum result they wanted, got their loveable posh buffoon into power and now think they will be entitled to make citizens arrests and command people back into their homes.

All the while posting shit c&p bullshit love letters for Doris and many many memes about 'imagine Corbyn trying to deal with this, we'd all be dead' despite the fact that Doris came very late to the table regarding our new constraints and they're all avoiding the fact that the tory government has decimated our police force and health service and now we don't have the tools to due the job properly.
Seriously, I fear for our future and not entirely because of the killer pandemic

Thekindofwindowsfaceslookinat · 25/03/2020 01:50

People are being complete cunts right now

Yep. I've just got pissed off with a bunch of CAPSLOCK thread-bullies on another thread.

Apparently CV19 gives people the right to call people A FUCKING IDIOT at will rather than engaging their brain and discussing.

Twats.

Coyoacan · 25/03/2020 04:40

Thank you for this thread, I totally agree and I am following the rules myself, but someone here today made up her own rule, that families should all take their exercise together and was indignant that other people aren't following it.
