For the past few years the rainbow has sadly becomea symbol of silencing, sexual stereotyping and oppression for a lot of women and those in the LGB community. If you're thinking of putting one up, please think about how that may make women feel - many of whom have already experienced death threats and lost their friends and jobs thanks to those who wield the rainbow flag as a weapon.

I just saw two on my walk just now and it made me feel like shit. Not the intended effect I'm sure. Please consider something else: the sun coming out from a cloud, or a simple landscape. Thanks.

Steady on with the rainbow spam, no need for that.

letsghostdance · 23/03/2020 21:08

It turns out it might not be about you Shock

Actually get over it. Christ.

rbmilliner · 23/03/2020 21:08

i'm really sure how mu toddlers innocently painted rainbow picture can be as offensive on any level - but yes you entitled to your opinion however ridiculous

OhCaptain · 23/03/2020 21:13

@nomdefuckit your spam is just as fucking rude and irritating as the OP’s batshit posts.

PennyMissilesAndWombPies · 23/03/2020 21:16

So there, ner.
(It's been a long day, and the very least of my problems is a rainbow)

Oh yeah! Bungle, Zippy and George - not forgetting Geoffrey of course. Lovely, I wish that was on now.

daffodilbrain · 23/03/2020 21:40

"Red and yellow and pink and green orange and purple and blue, I can sing a rainbow sing a 🌈 too" who remembers that song? Stop trying to spoil the simple innocent things in life.

titnomatani · 23/03/2020 21:41

I'm fed up of certain groups claiming to own certain things- the rainbow being one. It belongs to all of us OP and we all have our meanings attached to it. This is my sons rainbow and he loves it (almost as much as his cars). Stop politicising children's use of rainbows!!!

Please don't put a rainbow in your window!
iano · 23/03/2020 22:19

I think you're overthinking this.

Aussiegirl123456 · 23/03/2020 22:37

What happens when you see a rainbow in the sky? Does it offend you OP?

ScienceNut · 23/03/2020 22:56

Some I believe not many in terms of population.

Outtedagain · 23/03/2020 22:58

Ffs stop being so offended and notice the intention . That is what matters

FunkyKingston · 23/03/2020 23:06

op you are Millie Tant from Viz and I claim my £5

showmewhatyougot · 23/03/2020 23:10

The rainbow paintings are aimed at young children who don't know about the stuff your talking about.

Get over yourself. Find something else to moan about, surly there's enough going on atm. Why not try and cancel real rainbows Incase they cause offence?

inappropriateraspberry · 23/03/2020 23:20

I told my DD that a rainbow is a sign that Father Christmas is watching her - all year round, he could pop up! So now she must loose FC and rainbows?
Grow up and let children be children.

echobench · 23/03/2020 23:25

My sweet little 8 year old did a pic of a rainbow and a unicorn. It made her feel happy. She also enjoyed seeing a rainbow in the neighbour's house.

It's not all about you, OP.

Rosspoldarkssaddle · 23/03/2020 23:37

Not to me they don't OP. To me they mean
the sky is smiling.
The calm after the storm.
A symbol of hope.
An amazing representation of what is awesome about nature.
A superb way of demonstrating to kids, the effect of light through water.

Some people hate black because it means death. When traditionally it is white that is used to represent death and still is in some cultures.

Each to their own.

OccasionalKite · 23/03/2020 23:58

In recent years, the rainbow motif became fuck women's rights and fuck children's rights. It became the fucking flag of men's rights - and in particular, the flag of men's sexual rights.
I agree with OP.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 24/03/2020 00:02

And to others, as people have said on the thread, it's a symbol of happiness, bright, hope, and cheery.
Some posters have said it represents babies they have lost as well, rainbow babies, and also pets rainbow bridge.
Flowers

Newkitchen123 · 24/03/2020 00:06

It's a rainbow
It's colourful
It looks nice
The kids enjoy colouring
Get over yourself

OccasionalKite · 24/03/2020 00:11

If any of you have some spare time - this Mumsnet thread is worth a read, 'Break it down for me':
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3145470-Break-it-down-for-me?pg=1

A comprehensive explanation why the fucking rainbow doesn't work for me and my children and my friends, any more. The rainbow symbol has not been harmless for a few years, now.

tryingtoprep · 24/03/2020 00:14

I didn't realise rainbows had taken on any sinister new meanings but if they have we should reclaim them.
