To be clinging to threads about crappy mother's days as a last bastion of normality

livefornaps · 23/03/2020 01:07

...not that I would wish anyone a crappy mother's day and I am not hear to gloat!!!!

It's just... I never post any threads here myself, right but I have LOVED being a lurker here for years. I love hearing about people's lives, like mumsnet is a periscope into so many different situations. I love the funny posts. I love the funny comments.

But now, day after day, relentless coronavirus (to be expected). It's like, not only has everything gone nuts in my immediate world but even mumsnet seems pretty much solely dedicated to a world turned upside down. I have trouble reading much without feeling even more anxious whereas before it was a happy distraction.

So i've got to say that people flocking today to let off steam about their DHs being a bit lame has been...a bit of relief?? Like a postcard from "Life Before". I honestly don't mean anything unpleasant. Also can I just say the poster who came back to one such disappointed OP by recounting how their sacred offspring had proferred "a single daisy, plucked from a grass verge"...you gave me a proper lol.

Stay safe, everyone

I sort of see what you mean, but those OPs just seem extra bratty and entitled now, with everything that's happening.

livefornaps · 23/03/2020 09:14

I don't know if I would blanket all of them as bratty and entitled. When your husband and kids are a bit shit to you, it hurts even when there is a global pandemic on

I miss the diversions of lighthearted threads. Or minor irritations. Or mega nuts mils.

Mumsnet is never ending corona, Instagram has become never ending home workouts and facebook solid shaming of people going out or shopping.

livefornaps · 23/03/2020 09:55

@jay55 I hear ya, I HEEEAAARRRR YAAAAA

Is it me or is there a certain "competitive confinement" in some corners of social medjaaa, like, we may be trapped indoors but with my yoga routine i am soooo centered, or, here's the masterpiece i was able to produce now i have a bit of time, or those cloying posts about turning inward and this is the earth telling us to heal #fuckoff

OP posts:
livefornaps · 23/03/2020 09:59

Need some more mega nuts mils

OP posts:
NotSorry · 23/03/2020 10:10

This is a good distraction thread OP - read ALL the posts, don’t skim Wink

Omg @Notsorry - thank you. Let's get down to bizneeezzzz

Hide the COVID topic for a couple of hours when you just want to MN frivolously

Of course that depends on people acting in the interests of the community and posting COVID threads in the topic only, not thinking their ability to post in other places means it's a good thing to do

livefornaps · 23/03/2020 10:39

@AuntieStella how is the frivolous MNing working out for you?

OP posts:
AuntieStella · 23/03/2020 10:50

I've not got it hidden at the moment.

I'm being flexitarian!

livefornaps · 23/03/2020 10:52

Just read the thread that @NotSorry recommended, lmfaooooo amazing. That's the barmy I love from MN

OP posts:
livefornaps · 23/03/2020 10:52

If anyone else has recommends incl. @AuntieStella i am OPEN

OP posts:
roarfeckingroar · 23/03/2020 10:55

I'm with you OP. I'm just craving a decent nutty MIL thread. I'll read the one a PP suggested with a coffee in a bit.

My job has gone Corona mad, the news is shite, we can't go out much, FB is sanctimonious wailing - as is much of MN - I've taken to sending my friends daily updates of the queue to the local tip.

Grumpos · 23/03/2020 11:01

I’m tempted to delete fb because I’m honestly all ready sick of the smug parents doing arts and crafts and extravagant play / lessons with their kids when I’m here distracting my toddler with CocoMelon on YouTube whilst I nurse my fussy newborn.

One friend has prepared hand and foot rainbow prints with their toddler - on fancy card, ready to send to those vulnerable people who can’t get outside! By 9am! Ffs.

I already feel like a fat failure most days! I can’t take the competitive parenting!

livefornaps · 23/03/2020 11:06

@roarfeckingroar actually pissing myself at "sanctimonious wailing", baaahaha you're so right. Honestly, I think any sort of social medjaaa giving of unsolicited advice rubs me up the wrong way. "People, stay at home! #staysafe", well thanks for that, cousin Frieda, I was skeptical of the advice from the FUCKING GOVERMENT until you piped up, so cheers #blessed

OP posts:
livefornaps · 23/03/2020 11:09

Pahahaha @Grumpos you ain't a fat failure, babe. Nothing wrong with a bit of Coco Melon (or a lot). Also just plain old LOL at this

One friend has prepared hand and foot rainbow prints with their toddler - on fancy card, ready to send to those vulnerable people who can’t get outside! By 9am! Ffs.

Yes, Felicia, I'm sure that's what the vulnerable who face 12 weeks cooped up have been gagging for, a card of some anonymous toddler's fucking footpirints, which could in itself be a vector covid-19. give me fucking strength

OP posts:
Rosebel · 23/03/2020 11:20

People are too scared to post about anything other than the coronavirus because when they do.others jump on them going don't you know there are bigger things happeninf, your so selfish etc.

livefornaps · 23/03/2020 11:25

Oh god, another sidebar, people posting videos of their online gatherings on that fucking "houseparty" app - it is literally heads on a screen, all bopping to the same tuuuunes, mostly looking bored and as if they'd rather just be in their pyjamas watching Netflix, but they've been roped into this tedious shinding by the head honcho who's filming this whole sherade, and who then keeps turning their phone round and gurning at the camera like "we've got this lockdown on lockdown, smashing it" i mean for fuck's sake just shut the fuck up

OP posts:
livefornaps · 23/03/2020 11:27

It makes me sad @Rosebel that people feel they can't post normal stuff. It would make a welcome break from some of the social medjaaa bullshit listed above

OP posts:
NotSorry · 23/03/2020 11:28

I’m letting my kids get on with It - 17 y/o is doing some studying (I think!) uni son is probably still lazing in bed

Even the threads that start interesting get dragged into CV somehow. I tried to hide the CV topic but so many threads are posted in AIBU that they are impossible to avoid.

livefornaps · 23/03/2020 11:29

I love all the silly memes and videos going round, but there's some of it that has a "we're doing the pandemic better than yoouuu nerr nerr nerr nerr nerr" vibe to it

OP posts:
Songofsixpence · 23/03/2020 11:48

I’ve loved seeing the silly memes on FB and IG over the weekend

I posted a photo last night on FB I took of my horses in their field. The view is stunning, the sky is a gorgeous bright blue, I was the only one up the yard and it was so peaceful.

Got loads of shit from one friend for going out, I should stay in, I’m selfish, etc, etc

Erm, if I don’t go to them twice a day, every day they’ll starve to death, knee deep in their own shit!

roarfeckingroar · 23/03/2020 12:29

@livefornaps fuck off Freida Grin

livefornaps · 23/03/2020 12:31

God people really do get snipey don't they @Songofsixpence????
