Please boycott Britannia hotels as they've kicked 20 people out of the staff accommodation and fired them, many of these are workers from abroad and cannot get home. Some are sleeping in tents tonight and they have had no notice.
I know times are tough but they now have an empty staff accommodation but are so repulsive they won't allow them to stay there until covid blows over.

That is disgraceful- can you start a petition?

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 19/03/2020 21:58

Some embassies are collecting people and providing emergency transport back to the country of origin. They should certainly check.

Brittania are shit. We all know taht

StCharlotte · 19/03/2020 22:05

OMG. I thought I was unshockable but that is the most heartless thing I've seen in a very long time.

Really awful. Should be publicised far and wide.

TeeniefaeTroon · 19/03/2020 22:32

I'm from nearby and it's all over Facebook. P&J and the Scottish Sun have written about it, MPs are involved too. They've really fucked up, their 5 star reviews have taken a big hit and will only get worse. Heads are going to roll for this.

Namechange4nowt45 · 19/03/2020 23:51

Surely that's illegal behaviour? Those poor souls.

MrsMozartMkII · 20/03/2020 06:30

Bloody hell!

Wish I had somewhere for them to go. The hotel is being complete and utter arses and this behaviour will be long remembered.

Bluesheep8 · 20/03/2020 07:09

Disgusting. This should be headline news UK wide.

Bluesheep8 · 20/03/2020 07:10

Plus it can't be legal, surely.

LagunaBubbles · 20/03/2020 07:14

Hopefully this will make the National news.

LagunaBubbles · 20/03/2020 07:15

Letter staff received.

Snowglobes · 20/03/2020 07:17

I’ve never heard of Britannia. Disgraceful behaviour!

FredaFrogspawn · 20/03/2020 07:20

What a heartless letter.

fascinated · 20/03/2020 07:23

This is not going to be the last letter of this nature....

Isseyflora · 20/03/2020 07:27

It’s such a cold letter. I understand there will be cuts, but that letter is absolutely brutal, abrupt and lacking any warmth or sympathy or support.

fascinated · 20/03/2020 07:31

This is going to get a whole lot worse. This is what happens when you have cut the social security safety net to the bone.

Fimofriend · 20/03/2020 07:52

That is disgraceful. One of our local butchers has raised his prices considerably. He has no lack of neither customers nor wares. I don't like profiteers. Guess who just lost our business forever.

TerryScottsBridge · 20/03/2020 10:32

@Fimofriend

Remember the petrol strike of 2000? Well, in a village near me, there were two petrol stations opposite each other. One kept the prices "normal" and the other one gouged every penny from people.

Five years later, one was still there (still is) and the other is houses.

People remember.

@TeeniefaeTroon

Having had the misfortune of staying in a Britannia hotel, and seeing the way one they've taken over local to me has been run down, I'm sure the only Five Star review would be if Doris Pearson and her siblings went to stay there.

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 20/03/2020 10:35

@Fimofriend it may not be the butcher's fault. Our butcher told us that his suppliers raised prices 25%

Fimofriend · 20/03/2020 10:55

@BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser no, as far as understand, they are owned by the farmer. but worth checking

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 20/03/2020 10:57

Also. What happened to chicken? Where is it? This hasn't happened in other countries afaik

KittyJune · 20/03/2020 11:18

I live in China. No shortages of ANYTHING here - the quarantine laws have relaxed now and we can go out as before now, but even during the quarantine there were no shortages like this. This is all because of the government’s response (or lack thereof). In China, all businesses were shut down (except supermarkets and food shops) and everyone, without fail, stayed in for 4 weeks. After those 4 weeks, the virus was over (epidemic in my province went from severe to over between January 23 and now) because of those mere 4 weeks of most businesses being closed. The U.K. government are so relucnatnt to take action that rather than close everything down and inconvenience everyone mildly for four weeks, they’d rather do as little as possible, thus ensuring that normal life can (barely) continue, businesses can stay over (but be suffering) and the virus crisis in the UK is predicted to last for another year!!! So rather than just close for 4 weeks, all businesses will be suffering greatly for a year and U.K. citizens probably won’t be allowed into any other countries because the rate they’re going, even more countries will close their borders to British citizens. Bloody ridiculous plan.

KittyJune · 20/03/2020 11:19

(Should add even at the worst point of the crisis there were no shortages of absolutely anything - fruit/veg/meat/rice/tinned good) etc. people didn’t panic buy because they knew it would be over soon.

avacadooo · 20/03/2020 11:20

@fascinated yeah people will loose their jobs but to be thrown out of staff accommodation with no notice is hideous.
It's not as if they needed the rooms back that evening for new team members.
When we go up I won't be touching that shit hole with a barge pole.

Everyone in hospitality is trying their hardest to stop people loosing their jobs but Britannia did it so callously and it's wrong.

Less than a days notice to be told you're unemployed and homeless.

This story needs to be shared everywhere to show everyone what these wankers are like.
